"Wish? Hm... I suppose I'm used to hearing that word. Where I come from, wishes are the buzz that drive certain people nuts over. In the west of my home, youth wish for stuff like comic books or video games. To the east, they want perfect grades, and perfect jobs, for a perfect family. Us? We aren't exactly under the same bridge. To be honest, the most advanced that we are is with a carriage pulled by camel. People here want riches, women, power... I get to hear that often from my owner, who is always going on about dungeons that hold the power of Magic and stuff. Yeah, our society is driven by bought beans that are made to do work. But I'm not too down about it... as far as my mind will allow me, I hardly remember a family. All I really recall are cherry blossoms, and they cannot grow here. My wishes, if such a thing can be permitted, is to know what a family is like, to be loved and protected... I will free myself from this miserable desert, and I will find out where I saw the cherry blossoms."

If I got a wish, just a single wish. Where I could ask for whatever I wanted and it would happen.
I wouldn't be stupid or daft, I wouldn't ask for unlimited wishes, for unlimited wishes will not mend the gaping hole inside my heart.
Instead, I would use that single wish to say goodbye.. properly.
So abruptly had she been taken away from my life, it had been so unexpected that even till this day it still leaves me in shock. I think I still cling onto that slither of hope that she might still be alive.
If only I hadn't been so persistent to go to the mall that day, if only I had stopped complaining and just accepted that she really didn't want to take me. But of course I didn't stop complaining; I was that whining brat and of course she would take me. I always got what I wanted. She loved me far too much to say otherwise.
And now I regret it.
I wouldn't wish for my mother to be alive again, it just wouldn't be the same.
I would only wish to give her a proper goodbye. Give her one last hug, see one last smile and to apologize for what a brat I've been.

Wishes? Wishes, its an ironic yet powerful word. Wishes lead to superstitions, and superstitions lead to absurdities. Most wishes relate to emotions. But who said realism can't be in a wish? There are foolish wishes, and there are realistic yet hard-to-achieve ones. I guess mine are one of those.

Being an amateur yet quite succeeding geneticist, I hope to develop a way of finding genes that determine what tribe modern native Americans more easily. Let it be the simple way of scanning the eye of a specific individual to match the genes of their tribe, or observing the lines of their mouth. Anything but simply testing the salvia. Finding multiple ways would much be a success.

Another wish of mine slightly relates to superstitions, but that is only created by ourselves. I hope to bring psychology to a different level than simple counseling. I wish to help others that have mental problems or disorders, and have psychology be used to understand them. Children with disorders should not have to deal with the significant difference between them and others, and when others learn about psychology, they'll understand them much better. Dealing with the differences myself, I don't want others to be isolated as I was.

What makes them secretive? They sound too realistic. The whole point for me to have them realistic, as the point of having wishes is to have them come true, correct? Then keep the expectations high yet real, and perhaps I'll be satisfied some day.

Your name is Solder, and you dream of touching the fire.

Tonight, just before you curl up to sleep with the desert stars twinkling above you, you scrape together a small pile of crackling dry twigs and leaves and let the flames out. They've been building up inside you all day; a tickling, fiery sensation in the bottom of your stomach slowly working its way up your throat and out your maw. They escape as a whirling stream of heat and energy and passion and your troubles seem to go with them.

When you finish, your breath is smoky and hot air whooshes pleasantly through your nostrils. You're left with a little glowing fire, smoldering pale yellow like the bleached sand under your feet and snapping bright orange sparks that light up the darkness around you. The warmth it gives off makes up for the loss of heat you feel within you and entranced by this dancing specter, you shift closer. You are now inches away from the flames, and while you know you are in the "danger zone" (the ends of your hairs are beginning to smell singed) you cannot help reaching out and poking a claw blackened from previous attempts into the midst of the fire. A second passes while your fire resistant fur tries in vain to fend off the heat and you revel in it, but then the moment is over and your claw bursts into flame. With a disappointed huff, you jerk your arm away (doesn't the warmth feel nice?) and stab it in to the ground next to you. After another minute of watching the fiery tendrils leap, you extinguish them.

This happens nearly every night in the desert, when the longing to dance with the flames is strongest.
