Story wrote:Wind gusted up suddenly, catching Oshunaria's glinting hair and tossing it behind her shoulder. The stallion who had been calmly standing still suddenly let out a squeal and tore across his pasture, racing the wind and tossing his mane with a element of feral violence that the human found captivating. But just as quickly as the wind had started, it stopped, and the stallion came to a stand still again, his rich liquid brown eyes turning toward the sky as if looking to see where his friend had gone. With a guarded smile Oshunaria walked slowly down the slightly declining path that led to the gate of the stallions pen. Little did he know these would be his last moments here at the Renaissance farms.
Natalie thrust her hand forward, handing the short blonde woman a worn rope halter and lead, pointing her in the direction of Tercel's pasture. She couldn't help but dislike the woman, for no reason other than she was the one who would be taking Tercel away. The stallion had come her a year ago to be a jousting horse, Natalie had trained him herself and knew the horse better than her own father, who had informed her two short months ago that the stallion had to leave. Her father owned the farm and had converted it into a year round renaissance farm in an effort to bring in money and keep their heads above debt. He also made most of the executive decisions about the horses that they kept on the grounds, as they would have to be capable and calm when the clueless tourists climbed onto their backs and expected to re-enact their favourite scenes from blockbuster action movies on the backs of these 'medieval' horses. And so that's how they ended up here, standing on the steps watching as her favourite horse was loaded into a quaint two horse trailer, his pleasant hoof-beats mocked by the scrawling of her fathers pen as he signed the bill of sale. The blonde woman exited the trailer and trotted over to the wooden porch, digging through her pocket and producing a folded cheque.
"Would you like to say goodbye to him?" Her golden eyes met Natalie's, somewhat afraid of the rage the brunette girl was exuding. Without a word the younger girl stepped unevenly off the deck and walked toward hte trailer, every harsh step she took jolted up through her tense body, nothing about the situation was comfortable. Except for maybe the oblivious stallion who munched happily on a flake of hay, shaking his head and nodding it when the lead swung with the movement. Oshunaria turned back to the girls father, placing the cheque into his leathery hand and grimly accepting the bill of sale.
"Sir, if Natalie wants she can come and see Tercel any time, we will be performing in a jousting tournament at my stables in a few weeks, there will be a seat by the railing with her name on it." The woman turned on her heel, passing a upset Natalie who was storming into the house. With a relieved expression Oshunaria got into her truck and waved goodbye to the farm, wishing she could leave the stallion here with Natalie but knowing that this was no place for a spunky stallion.----Two Weeks Later----
The stallions breath poured out of his nostrils like steam as he jostled impatiently at his end of the jousting stretch. His tack jingling and adding to the electric atmosphere. With a firm signal Oshunaria sent the large stallion forward, bracing herself against the tremendous jolt of momentum that the stallions surging muscles exerted against her. Tercel gained speed with every step as he surged down the stretch toward the awaiting dummy who sat indifferently on the other side of the small dividing fence. The loud crash of her lance against the fake opponents shield echoed through the empty jousting grounds. Tercel came to a stop and swung around on the end of the jousting stretch. Still playing impatiently with his bit. With another strong signal Oshunaria drove the stallion forward, taking careful aim with her lance and driving it home on the dummy, knocking it off of its wooden stand. With a smile the woman leaned forward and stroked Tercel's warm neck. Tomorrow would be the day they challenged a real opponent and she was sure that the stallion was ready, after all, he had been doing this for two years now.
"Well done" A strange voice sliced through the morning air and both Oshunaria and Tercel whipped their heads around toward the voice. Tercel let out a quiet neigh that sounded like a cross between a chuckle and someone clearing their throat.
"Hi Natalie!" Oshunaria called, trotting the stallion over to the rail fence and jumping from the saddle, her silver armour clanging noisily. "Did you come to see us joust tomorrow?" The woman removed her helmet and gauntlets before pushing her sweaty blonde locks off of her forehead.
"Not really, I have a horse sale to go to tomorrow so I thought I would stop by today and see you ride. Maybe offer you some pointers if you like." The brunette girl kicked at the dirt, clearly still missing her horse but so far it seemed like she had come to terms with things.
"Sure, I'd love some advice!" Oshunaria loosened her armour before leaning against the railing, listening intently to the younger girl.
"Alright, well, he's counter suggestive, so when you are standing at the end, dont tell him to go, just give him his head, he loves to charge and doesn't need you to instruct him. And when you are about a horse length away from your opponent if you lean a little toward the fence he will pick up speed and move over a tiny bit, most horses want to be away from the other horse but Tercel is a ruthless competitor, he hates losing. Another thing I used to do was turn his head away slightly when you wait to begin, let him eye up the other horse really well, I dont know why but he always does better if he's sized up the competition. Oh! and dont talk to him while you're up on him. He's easily distracted and needs to immerse himself in his own mind, he should forget that you are even there." Natalie had leaned against the railing now and was stroking the stallion wide forehead, her eyes were no longer guarded and she smiled openly as the stallion pushed her had away and then sighed when she continues to stroke him.
"Excellent, thanks. I honestly never would have figured any of that out!" Oshunaria placed a hand on the stallions shoulder before quickly removing it when he began twitching the skin.
"No problem, and good luck tomorrow. I have to go but I am sure you will do well, he's a great horse."
The stallion relaxed and hung his head a little when the girl left, his ears drooping lazily. He never seemed upset when Natalie left, Oshun wondered yet again if he really bonded with anyone.----Competition Day----
There was a dull buzzing coming from the stands as the audience talked amongst themselves, rattling ice in drinks and leafing through their program and discussing the names of horses and riders. Cottonwood had really outdone themselves with this event, the whole town had shown up eager to see the unusual event. Tercel shifted his weight restlessly beneath her heavy metal covered legs as they awaited for the previous joust to end. Time seemed to race by at the frantic pace of her panicked heartbeat. Oshunaria nearly leapt out of the saddle as their names were called. Without being told Tercel set off at a quick walk to his end of the jousting track, his breath progressively getting shorter and heaver as he became excited. As they waited on their end of the track the wind suddenly picked up, blasting through the cracks in Oshun's armour and tossing the stallions mane over his neck, she felt him go still beneath her. The woman barely had time to brace herself as the buzzer went and the horses surged forward like violent waves of a stormy sea. With the wind at her back Oshunaria had the distinct feeling of flying on the back of her speeding stallion, a calm spread through her limbs as she relaxed her grip on the horse, allowing him to take control, she simply aimed her lance and left everything else to the experienced stallion.

~~~I am making a note of all those who haven't yet finished. I might extend the contest if people have major real life issues (bereavement, examinations, etc.) to cope with, so if you do drop me a PM and I'll see what I can do. Remember, some people have been finished for quite some time and I want to get started planning my summer event!~~~
