On a roll of 2…
You head into the darkness, and it seems to swallow you whole. You cannot see your own hands ahead of you. A root sticks out and snags your foot. You fumble in the darkness on the damp earth for several minutes before admitting defeat. The moment you resign to a fate of nothingness and living as a worm forever, you open your eyes again, having awoken in your own bed the next morning. Was it a dream? The sigil in your hand says otherwise… [+1 Dual Sigil, 2 random pets]
You edge nearer, leery of confrontation with the shape you’ve managed to track down. You think you’ve cornered it, no visible way for it to escape your grasp. Once you are well in the path, it darts suddenly through you and off again into the wilderness of the Winding Woods. You don’t have the energy to chase after it frantically again and so you stick to the path, in the hopes it drew you here for some worthwhile reason.
With every step nearer to the end of the trail, you begin to reminisce about your past and those who could be waiting for you back on the other side of the gates. You left everyone behind without a second thought. You wonder if you have been missed since answering the call that drew you here. How long have you been gone, anyway?
In this moment, you see that a Seraphillon pup waits for you, although ghostly in nature and not unlike one of the figures represented on your sigil. It is a child of The Spectre, and you know you cannot refuse them from returning home with you. Together, side-by-side, you head home the way you came, feeling a sense of fulfillment and longing for those you left behind.
[+Child of Spectre 2, awakened sigil, dual sigil]
You choose to ignore the dream and push on through the forest, in the hopes what you could not hear was a call towards something further in. Some of your crew come along with you, but the rest return towards the entrance. As you continue deeper, the mist from before reappears and the trail becomes mazelike. At times, the trail angles at 90 degrees, forking at some parts and curving at others. You’ve managed to stay together so far.
Sometime halfway through your journey, you remember they say to always continue right in a maze to reach the end… or is it left? You can’t decide and consult your crew for advice. They have none to offer. At this point, the mist becomes so thick it is difficult to see much more than a few feet in front of you, much less the sky. You start to realize some of your companions are missing, picked off as you continue past each corner. You wind up at the center of the maze, fog blocking the exit and entrance from view. You are the only one remaining, stranded and alone.
Here stands a second statue, unlike the first. Rather than many pairs of wings, it bears a single argent helm and a pair of clipped wings. You recognize this statue as the Sentinel, and resting at its paws is a gleaming stone and several pieces of sundew. You aren’t sure if this is an offering, but no one is around to tell you took it… You collect it and place it in your satchel and retrace your steps to head home. [+25 Sundew, +Awakened Sigil, +Dual Sigil]
You return to the statue you saw at the beginning of the woods, wondering what other secrets lie in wait. Some of your crew come along with you, but the rest venture beyond the campsite deeper still. It takes everyone a while to make the full journey back but eventually you make the return, and the statue looks exactly like it did when you encountered it the first time.
You start to investigate the statue, beginning with the paws and working your way around each wing and in every crack and crevice. You find a furrow in the dirt near it and begin to dig… Covered in mud, you continue to dig through freshly turned earth until you fall, arms-first down to the next level. Even though you’re disoriented by the fall, you’re not harmed. Sense regained, you look around to see familiar faces from the first clearing, only some of those with whom you started your journey. [Continue on to the next day.]
