Day 1: a creative solution. // ThatPinkThing // anthro Baer the kalon

Baer could balance on one foot while rhythmically mixing a bowl on the counter, turning pages in his cookbook, and holding the fridge door open with his free foot. He was playing with a new recipe this morning, one from a cookbook that had been gifted to him for Christmas. He'd barely had a break since the holidays, and while he appeared busy, he was having a day to himself today.

"Seems simple enough," he hummed. He left the book, grabbed an egg from the fridge, shut the door with his tail, and let the bowl he was mixing settle. He moved around the kitchen fluidly, fully at home. Despite the flour that was all up in his chest and tail fur, he kept the counters clean and organized by some miracle while he baked. "Just need some chocolate chips."

The cupboard door creaked as he opened it, and he sighed. "Uh oh." The well-organized shelf had an empty gap where chocolate chips were supposed to sit.

Baer turned around the kitchen, looking around to see what he could use to substitute. He had some cocoa pops... no, that wasn't going to be the right texture. He looked back in his cupboards, finding the chocolate sauce. Hmm... Worth a shot. Baer got out another cookie sheet, covered it in wax paper, and started dotting chocolate syrup methodically. He worked quickly and then slid the sheet into the freezer. He repeated the process on another sheet.

Thirty minutes later, he happily slid the wax paper out and shook the newly frozen chocolate drops into his cookie dough. Yet another ten minutes later, two dozen successful chocolate chip cookies sat cooling by the window. Well, two dozen minus one.

[prompt 1]: everlasting

Postby hiraeth + hound » Sat Feb 17, 2018 8:10 am

Tell about a time your kalon had to use a creative solution to solve a problem.

        seraphim & florence

In two kingdom’s not far divided but still apart, lived two seperate princes, each with their own stories to tell. One, Seraphim, was from a prestigious royal family who kept it a point to conceal it’s beautiful members within it’s castle walls, never making an appearance other than to attend formal parties or discuss matters of the kingdom bonds with nearby territories. The other, Florence, was from a line of family jealousy and hate. Albeit more normal and free than seraphim, florence was anything but. A chance encounter would open both of these princes’ eyes and hearts to more than they could ever grasp possible.

One thing was clear in their relationship: Seraphim was a lover. Any chance he had to prove to Florence that he loved him, he would. No matter how many times Florence rejected him or ignored his advances simply due to some gnarly inner demons, Seraphim sent out to prove those demons wrong every time. On a brief break in their time together, Sera considered a very small detail that seemed to prod at him. He had never seen Florence near flowers. Being the prince of a kingdom dubbed ‘the Flower Kingdom’, and considering flowers were his family's royal emblem, he found this detail odd. So, Sera set out to change this peculiar misfortune and help Florence understand the beauty of flowers.

The day had come to where he would be seeing Florence again, and Sera arrived at the castle with baskets and bushels full of flowers of every color and shape. Unfortunately, quite early on in Sera’s intervention, he had come to find out just why Florence was never around flowers. A few well timed sneezes and teary eyes told him immediately what he needed to know: Florence was allergic to flowers.

So, Sera went back to the drawing board - quite literally. Instead of spending his time out picking flowers for Florence, he honed his craftsmanship abilities to fold paper into the shapes of different types of flowers. He folded roses, carnations, daisies, every flower he wanted Florence to see but could not. Yes, it took time to perfect it, but whenever a paper flower would come together just right, every angle and curve of the fake petals matching it’s real counterpart, Sera would feel pride swell in his chest. These flowers, however, were bland as their standalone selves. So, the frail prince took up some time in painting. Using real flowers he had acquired as his references, seraphim painted every paper petal until they matched perfectly to their realistic cousins.

Seraphim would arrive at Florence’s castle again, with bushels and baskets full of paper flowers that he had spent his nights folding and painting just for him. Flowers that wouldn't make Florence sneeze, and flowers that he soon realized would never wilt. As Sera gently placed a replica of a white rose in Florence’s open palm, he smiled at his lover and repeated gentle words he had been told himself. “White roses are symbolic for many things. Purity, Innocence, Sympathy, Spirituality.. And most importantly, true love.” Sera re-lived the long nights he had spent folding and painting and perfecting this tiny masterpieces, all so Florence could see flowers without being uncomfortable. He laughed a little, at the silliness of it all.

“These flowers, just like my love for you, are eternal. They can never wilt, unlike normal flowers.. They are everlasting.”

[ Prompt One ] - Kalon Lunar New Year

Postby womp womp » Sat Feb 17, 2018 8:43 am

─────────────────────────────────
Kalon Used In Prompt : Blaise ←
─────────────────────────────────

Blaise was a photographer. A camera always seemed to be on her, either hanging on her neck or tucked into her trusty bag she would carry around. And today, in the bag that drooped down to her hips, was a slick new camera. She had tested it out earlier in the day, taking swift snaps of flowers that bloomed near her home. But one thing about it was how heavy it was. Blaise had never held such a heavy camera, and when she took it out to capture anything, her arms trembled at its weight. Her photos ended up mainly shaky, and her previous camera was significantly lighter than this. Blaise wasn't used to the weight of it, and her photos were pretty much useless, unless blurry photos were a desire. Blaise was forced to switch back to her old, worn out camera. It was lower quality, yes, but at least her photos turned out still. But what was she going to do with her old camera? Returning it to the store wasn't an option, as they strictly mentioned she would be unable to. But then it hit her. Blaise cleared out a space on her shelf, where a collection of items laid. Placing the heavy camera on it, she backed up and grinned. She had been wanting to put a camera of some sort in the shelf. Why? Because it was a shelf that represented her.

Sitting alone on the floor of the garage, Amilyn stares at the stick in her hands, a piece of rounded stone sitting next to her thighs. There's a ball of twine, as well, and the girl only frowns. School project. A big problem. Especially when she was supposed to create some sort of artifact- originally a spear, from the stone and the large wooden stick. Dazed, the young girl sits in bewilderment. A round stone into an arrowhead? Is that possible?

Sterling happens to pass at the time, glancing over at the thirteen year old with an eyebrow quirked. He's just passing by to grab some tools, but Amilyn sitting on the floor in despair has grabbed his attention instead. He's aware of the project, but had already adamantly rejected helping Amilyn in any possible manner- her project, her work, right?

However, like a passing moment, the male just mutters "Why not just make the arrowhead out of paper stacked together in the shape you need? Stone is too hard"

And just like that, Amilyn hops up.

Tell about a time your kalon had to use a creative solution to solve a problem

Prompt 1

Catskitten

————

/A kalon household and fireworks/

The household

It is mentioned that Bear doesn’t like fireworks.
Also mentioned that he is a very good climber.
A good skill for survival in the wild but not in a household full of kits.
So when the noises go off he climbs the highest shelf.
Rhyse and Ghastly would break out into fits.
Seventy would get a ladder out,put it near the shelf and wait it out.
He would come down on his own.
The other kalons found the fireworks exciting and loved the noise and colors.
When Bear grew up he still hated them and would hide out in his room or the forest.
Not like the new year lasted all year anyways.

————

/The ship crew and fireworks/

A ship crew

Eli loves watching the fireworks from the ship.
The colors make them really happy.
Trystyn and Emily don’t get much work done so they join Eli in watching the fireworks.

————

/A circus knife thrower and fireworks/

Forager

Forager was neutral towards fireworks.
It brought in a heavy crowd to the circus.
He worked harder those days and made more money.
Really all he cares about is that his deaf mouse Piper won’t get spooked.

Prompt Day 1: Tell about a time your kalon had to use a creative solution to solve a problem.
This is about my kalon Salem
____________________________

Sleep
Noun.
A scarce phenomenon that can be described as a turmoil of nightmares and scattered thoughts. In other words:
An illusion.

Rest
Noun.
Something I, even after trying everything from medication to meditation, still cannot seem to get.

Sleep is something that people take for granted. A daily routine, that they barely pay a second thought to.
Turn the lights off. Go to bed. Close your eyes. 8 hours later, presto! You wake up to sunlight and an energized body. Simple, right?

As if.

The nightmares started a month after Dad disappeared. I was only ten at the time, a little kid lost in a big world of flashing lights and fake smiles.

My father was always distorted in the nightmares. His kind grey eyes had melted away, leaving only sockets. His features were exaggerated like in a twisted cartoon. Everything that defined him as my Dad, a loving man with a heart for animals and a passion for music, had been ripped away from him. This was what I deserved, he would repeat, over and over. What I deserved for chasing my Dad away.
I named him the Nightmare Man. He infested my thoughts and captured my dreams, taking them one by one until the night time was his possession.

The nightmares grew worse. Dreaming no longer felt like an escape from reality. I felt cornered.

As hard as I tried, I couldn’t overcome my fear of the Nightmare Man.

Finally I couldn’t take it anymore. I stopped going to bed at night.
It was never a solution. My health deteriorated, my mood became worse and worse with every day, and my grades dropped. But I was cornered, and afraid.
It was the only way.

Until, one sleepless night, when I was around fourteen, an idea came to me.

All night I worked on it. I rummaged through the attic, snatching every old photo of me and my father I could find. Then: materials. Cardboard boxes. Feathers. Glue. An small desk fan. Paper. Screws. Some glitter.
Even an old broken radio, which I took apart and tampered with.
Driven with passion and motivation, I barely noticed the hours fly by. Midnight. 1 AM. 3 AM. 6 AM.
Finally, I stopped, not to take a break, but because it was done.

It looked like an odd pile of garbage. It appeared to be a large box, covered in photos, feathers, and colorful paper scraps. Placed on top of the box was a slightly misshapen radio.
To work the machine, I had to press the on button on the radio. It would then play what had been my dad’s favorite song, and when it was done, a small plastic desk fan would blow a few feathers and some glitter in the direction of my bed.
Yes, it was messy.
But somehow, it helped.
The next night, I turned on the machine and waited for it to do its thing, then settled into bed.
And by some miracle, I managed to fall into a deep, good night’s sleep.

Of course, it didn’t solve things forever. But, with my dream machine to watch over me, the nightmares stopped for an entire month.
And that is infinitely better than nothing.

    prompt 1, the rat.

it wasn't like you got a college degree in fixing things with duct tape.

but that didn't mean they had no experience. on the contrary, wisteria ALWAYS managed to fix things around the house with just... whatever they had lying around. gutters torn off in a hailstorm? tape 'em back up, they're basically ducts for water, right? then that's what the tape is for. they could deal with such things as permanency when they failed next.

of course, resourcefulness was necessary when you live out in the middle of nowhere like they did. there weren't exactly many repairmen that could be called out to "the middle of some field of flowers, somewhere, miles from society." so it was a bit harder getting to adjust to city life, what with its building codes and regulations.

sometimes they missed living in a literal hole in the ground. even if they needed to solve things themselves, at least it was simpler.

Prompt 1
-------------------------------------------
Neve and Arroyo walked through the green and wild forest. The strap on Neve`s shoulder bag slowly became undone. She was startled and jumped when she heard something fall from the bag and saw it was her beloved flute that had fallen. She quickly surveyed the damage; the flute was broken in half. Arroyo ran up to see what had happened as Neve started crying. "Its ok! I know how to fix it." He said as he picked up the broken pieces. He went to the nearest tree and used his dagger to cut the bark off, revealing the sticky sap inside. Using the sap as an adhesive, he glued the two halves together and handed it back to Neve. "Close that strap tightly next time!" He joked. Neve thanked him and wiped the tears away. The pair continued on their journey, merrily singing, now without any further broken flutes or interruptions.
