"You will never understand me," Navi yelled, tears welling up in his eyes as he stared into the face in front of him. The figure in front of him seemed so familiar but, having a black face with no distinguishable features, he simply couldn't figure out who it was. His only response was a laugh. A menacing, unforgiving snicker to tug at his emotions as though they hadn't been dug up enough. "Don't worry," the shadow assured him and, although he couldn't see it, he was sure that there was a smile creeping across the face of his enemy, "I'm not the only one. I mean if I don't understand you who will?" The arrogance, Navi thought with disgust and annoyance, To think that you can even begin to know me! Who are you anyways, he pondered, not expecting a response to come given the fact he hadn't uttered a single one of his thoughts.
But, expected or not, a response came. "You idiot!" It spat with amusement hidden behind is faux tone of offense. "I'm you," it laughed, suddenly showing the face behind the mask of darkness. It was, of course, Navi. His own reflection in a mirror as though he'd been transported into another dimension were there were infinite numbers of himself. "M-me? B-but h-" Before he could get his thoughts out his alter ego cut him off, "Stop stuttering. It's a dream, your dream to be precise."
Of course, now it made sense. His inner turmoil had begun to surface even in the place he thought he was able to escape from the problems of his mediocre life. Suddenly it seemed that all his emotions were warring in front of him. Two sides of his own mind fighting for the same space, but before he could see who would win he was awake.
His tear stained face resting against the cabinet of the bathroom sink. "Navi? Please let me come in, you can't stay in there forever. I-" the voice stuttered as though she were considering weather or not her next words would be the right thing to say given the situation. "I read your diary Navi. I know what you're going through, I know what it's like to feel like you don't understand yourself..." her voice trailed off as she desperately prayed some kind of response would come. But Navi wasn't focused on her words, instead he was focused on his own profound thoughts and as the words echoed in his head he couldn't help but smile, "Maybe I'll never understand me but, just maybe, I don't have to."
