happysparrow - Ellie Von Pine - Male - Commander - Lyrics From Empire by Dar Williams Who are they?;:
"Who's afraid of the sun?"
It was not a matter of who Ellie was, but more so of what he wasn't. He was like any good Kalon boy who had been raised correctly - polite, soft-spoken, wonderful manners; however, anyone who saw him always noticed there was something... off. It was never outward enough for anyone to give any accusations, but it was enough to make everyone squirm and look nervously at each other when he entered the room.
Perhaps it was because Ellie was a bit cold. Much colder than the sun he seemed to worship, at least. His actions suggested that he would get what he believed, even if it meant trampling everyone underneath his paws. Ellie would claw his way to the top, but with a smirk, he began to realize that he could use the fear of the people to get him there much easier.
"Who would question the goodness of the mighty?"
He was polite, but he was in no way warm or welcoming. His gaze brought other Kalons utter discomfort, and with one smug smirk he could bring any enemy to their knees. It would have been one thing if Ellie used this sort of power
only on enemies, but it was effective with anyone who was even in his general vicinity, and even more ferocious for anyone who dared to stand in his way. Ellie was polite, but never kind. Well mannered, but never nice. He would hold a door, but just as quickly laugh in the face of a Kalon who dared to ask him to step down. Ellie seemed to be two different Kalons, coexisting in one bright, pastel body. He was as shining as the sun, as present as the light that shone upon the kingdom. Slowly, Ellie began to believe in his mind that he
was the sun. He was perfect, was he not? He was pure power, pure perfection! And, Ellie believed, he should be treated as such.
"There's no time for doubt right now, and less time to explain. So get back on your horses, kiss my ring, and join our next campaign!"
This is why Queen Vanessa was so drawn to him. She had finally found one in her kingdom who equaled her beliefs. Ellie was cold and quiet, someone who seemed to have no limits and no fears. Ellie was someone who could be
wonderfully effective in war. The current commander had limits, and he had fears, and had a very simple boundary that no convincing from Vanessa would cross - their current commander only fought when needed. Vanessa wanted to fight for further power. This is when Ellie was called into the castle, groomed for even further perfection. Vanessa was going to groom Ellie into becoming the most powerful general the world had ever seen. And thus, Ellie became a Commander. No, no.
The Commander. The Kalon guards under him were just as frightened as the enemies they were fighting, but their concerns were never met with answers or response. Ellie was never at fault, and by the time he had squirmed his way into the guard, it was too late to stop him. Ellie was the sun, the raging, ferocious, flaming hot sun, and he was going to burn the world up at his paws.
"Because the sun never sets on my dungeons or my armies!"
Soon, every kingdom bordering Queen Vanessa's had been captured. Ellie had gained the most fearful respect, getting each kingdom to give and give and give. He got money, and food, and anyone he wanted. He had become more powerful than even Queen Vanessa,
and this began to worry her. Perhaps she had groomed the boy too well, she figured, watching as he began to slowly take over the duties that were rightfully hers. Ellie had officially become the world's most fearsome warrior, and had made his goal of being the sun itself. He had made it so that the world both feared him and was forced to rely on him. Vanessa had heard the grumblings,
and the whispered plans from among her army. Soon enough, she had begun to join them.
"And the empire fell, on it's own splintered axis..."
It was cloudy, and dark. Ellie was sitting in the tower, wine in paw and eyes scanning the horizon. Today was a planning day, and he smiled softly knowing what was to come. Would he conquer, or enforce? Enslave or deceive? Did he want more Kalons, more food, more wine..? When the door creaked open, his smile brightened and he called, "If it isn't Vanessa! Come in!" he chimed, voice irritatingly smug and cheerful. When no answer came, he frowned, demand growing forceful, "Speak, my queen," he growled, almost taunting with the title. Again, silence. Spinning around with a glare, he froze to find that it was certainly Queen Vanessa, but not in the way he had expected...
"You wanted to be the sun," she purred, dropping the match, "It's not the sun without a little burning, now is it?" turning, she raced back down the tower, cackling as she made it out of the castle. The assassination would certainly be worth the loss of a single castle! Spinning around to watch, however, her face fell. Standing at the foot of the tower, having raced after Vanessa, stood Ellie. He was certainly not happy.
"Oh, where is the sun shining for everyone?"
With a grin, Ellie stepped forward, slowly, one paw at a time. Vanessa began to shake, eyes wide and knees growing weak as Ellie approached and towered over her, "I didn't build up my armies for no reason. They hated you to begin with, and now they just pick the lesser of two evils. I'm chasing you out. You've failed," with another smug grin, he watched as Vanessa seemed to melt away, "I suggest you leave," and with that, Vanessa charged off, afraid of what the sun could really do. Turning back to his burning castle, Ellie sighed, "Perhaps I
will conquer a new castle. As emperor, I'll surely need one.."
"And the farmers will find old coins in their strawberry fields..."
Centuries later, a tiny band of Kalon kits stumbled upon a huge field. Having just been plowed, the field yielded plenty of treasures - broken bottles being common, but there were always neat rocks now and again! Grinning at each other, the kits raced in to see what they could find. While digging, they paused. Oh, something big..! They pulled out all kinds of pottery and coins that day, all emblazoned with the picture of a large, intimidating Kalon with the sun shining behind him. Digging deeper, they found older depictions of what seemed to be a queen. At one point, they even found them seemingly in the same spot. Confused by what it could all mean, and assuming it was useless, they soon left laughing to begin another game.[/center]
