short story under 800 words:
Dom was running across the horizon, as free as a bird. Breathing in all of the fresh air around him as the sun set. It was getting dark and the little dragon knew that he had to Victor, his guardian. Using his little legs, Dom ran as fast as he could back to his home with a big smile on his face. "Oh, why hello Dom. Did you have a nice time playing outside?" asked Victor. "Oh yes, yes! I even got to play with the pretty birds!" exclaimed Dom. He smiled for a little longer before changing his facial expression to a more serious one. "Victor? How did you learn how to dance? And how did you get so good at it?" "That's a good question, Dom. It all started when I was about 15. I saw many others do all of these interesting dance moves, defying the very nature of gravity. I was just absolutely blown away and thought to myself: Wow, that's... that's just amazing. So from that point on, I tried different dance moves, doing them over and over until I could get them right. I didn't even have a special style! I practiced new things everyday, and from all of that practice evolved into what I do today." "Oh wow.... that's amazing! Is it possible that you could teach me a few of your dance moves? I'm really interested." Victor grinned at the little one's enthusiasm and rubbed Dom's head. "I would love to, Dom. But not now, it's getting late, and you need to rest before I can teach you anything." Victor took his paw away from Dom's head and Dom nodded happily and quickly dozed off.
The next morning, Dom woke up, eager to learn. He bounced over to Victor to go wake him up. Victor was already awake, but didn't feel like getting up at that moment. But Victor heard Dom hopping over so he got up. "Good morning, Dom. Are you ready to learn?" Dom nodded his head in excitement as the two dragons worked together. Dom learned as much as a little dragon could, taking a mental note of almost everything Victor said. There may have been a few times where he zoned out. By the sunset of that day, the two dragons were all out of energy. They had given it all they've got. Little Dom didn't learn too much, but at least he remembered what Victor told him repeatedly throughout the day. Your dreams are your inheritance.
From then on, Dom did as much as he could so he could hopefully become as good as his mentor and guardian, Victor, at dancing.
