WME Name: Kuiper
Argument:
Argument #0: It's all in the Name!
Are you telling me you don't see that Pluto still has Planet in its new title? It has a minor description of size before it but clearly planet is still listed??
Argument #1: It should be Grandfathered In
Pluto was a planet for 76 years. That's like a whole person's life span in theory, or could be! It's a long time regardless. You can't just revoke its membership to being a planet after almost a century! Its like firing your grandma from being your grnadma because she isnt tall enough!?
Argument #2: The Emotional Damage Clause
Pluto has feelings too. You cant just demote someone whos been proudly holding onto their planet title since 1930 and expect them to not to spiral into an icy depression! Do we want the entire Kuiper Belt to unionize and protest or revolt?!?! No! Therefore, Pluto should be a Planet! Then no one has their feelings hurt!
Argument #3: If it walks like a Planet, it is a Planet.
Pluto is round. Pluto orbits the sun. IT HAS MOONS!! Sounds an awful like “Planet Behavior” to me. If we start nitpicking that much, next thing you know, youll be telling me Earth isnt a Planet either!?! That is doesnt count because it hasnt “cleared its orbit” either! (Thats a big point on why Pluto “isnt” a Planet……..but like Hello, Near-Earth Asteroids!) I wave
If earth is a planet without a clear orbit than id say Pluto is also a planet since it does all the things that planets do.
Argument #4: Participation Trophy
Pluto has tried really really really hard to be a planet and that should count for something right?! The least we could do is let it keep the name tag since they worked so hard! Otherwise what kind of message are we sending out to all the other aspiring young celestial bodies?? That hard work and being adorable isnt enough?!?! That they cant be a planet and crush all their hopes and dreams. I could never!
Argument #5: Cultural Significance
Pluto isnt just a planet but its a cultural icon! Mickey Mouse’s dog, countless school science posters, an entire generation of mnemonic devices?! (“My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas”) Without Pluto, what do we get served?? Nachos?? Absolute Chaos is what that is. My brain will not let me forget everything that the school taught me before bringing forth the falsehood that Pluto is not a Planet.
Argument #6: Size Doesnt Matter
Jupiter is out there flexing like agym rat but planets arent in a bodybuilding competition. If they were surely Mercury wouldve been kicked out eons agos. Tiny doesnt mean unworthy! It means compact, efficient and its way easier to draw, especially in all those childrens books!
Argument #7: Peer Pressure
Every kid in elementary school already calls it a planet, as well as how many past generations of people?? Are we really going to start gaslighting all these kids into believing Pluto isnt a planet. “Oh that whole solar system you just built for class! Fake, not real, that ninth one isnt really a planet!” NO! We could never, thats just rude! Think of the children!!
Argument #8: We Need it for Balance.
9 Planets = neat, poetic, satisfying.
8 Planets = awkward, asymmetrical, makes my eye twitch, instills anger in many.
Do we really want our solar system to look like its lost a tooth? NO! That's ridiculous!
Argument #9: Space is Huge! Who Cares!
Space is literally infinite. Are we really going to gatekeep who gets to sit at the Planet table? I think theres plenty of room there for everyone. Let Pluot in, Neptune can scoot on over! Its really not that deep!
Argument #10: It has Fans!
How many dwarf planets have plushies, songs and a bunch of loyal fan clubs? Pluto is the only celestial body with better PR than Saturns rings. If popularity counted for anything, Pluto would be promoted to Super Planet for the amount of love its getting on a daily basis!
Bottom line; Pluto isnt just a ball of ice!! Its a beloved underdog of a planet with a lot of personality! Demoting it wasnt science, it was bullying. And we need to step in and correct it right away! PLANET PLUTO! STAY STRONG!
