“The best advice I can give is to take a day just for you. No matter what you like to do, whether that be draw or read or play soccer, or even all of the above, find a day where you can do just that. The point of this day is to just relax, and if your favorite activities do that for you then do them! Don’t wait for there to be ‘nothing more important to do,’ instead go ahead and get started. Follow your heart wherever it may lead you, for today there is no such thing as ‘I have to’ or ‘I should’; there is only ‘I want.’ You deserve to be happy, to spend some time doing what you want to do without being guilted into doing something else.
And if your favorite activity is the source of your stress, then don’t do it. For example, if you find yourself struggling to not be a perfectionist when drawing and inevitably stress yourself out over every little detail, then it isn’t something you should do on a relaxation day. But if you are really dead set on doing art, consider doing little doodles only so it isn’t as difficult to find whats perfect to you.
In the end, I say just fully call it a splurge day, do and eat what your heart desires. If you don't feel up to making big meals, you can grab a healthy snack (cheese and crackers, along with the veggies you like best, is an option to consider), or you can simply order in. Perhaps there’s a new take out place you’ve been meaning to try, or you haven’t gone to your top choice in months; today is the day to change that.
And then when the end of the day arrives, take a seat in your favorite spot, whether that be a chair, your bed, or anywhere else, and just enjoy the comforting atmosphere you’ve been building thus far. Listen to music, or sit in silence. Drink some tea, or make a cup of hot chocolate. Be yourself without the walls or façades you usually put on, and remember that you are worthy of this, of happiness, simply for existing. And no matter what, you will always make it through, because every day you're a survivor and I’m so very proud of you.”
