You have, grown one:
the fangs of your father,
the love of your mother,
the strength of your mother's father,
the Mark of your father's mother,

Travel well, my one.
Accept our pride, special one.

|| Designation of a New Guardian ||

Image

Ribbons, to carry the title of your duties.
Bells, to announce your place in this world.
Rings, to weigh fair your judgment.
These mark a Guardian.

Paint of clay, to allow you truthful sight.
Paint of ash, to preserve your strength.
Prints of old, to guide your justice.
These strengthen your purpose.

Chanting in primal tongue. Three rings of new, forged in flame blue. One ring of old, in travel-weathered gold. Echoes through the cavern mythical, ethereal. Cool as the late night under the towering trees. Into the sacred well, guided through her path following her mentor's expertise. The Ceremony of Sending. White paint, for friends and kin to mark her. Black paint, visible wisdom of Guardians on fur.

One sun and one moon within, to begin.

Astrona || Female || Founder of The New Guard
feminization of ástron, old greek for 'star' || User: MySpoons

Ribbons, to carry the title of your duties.

She heard of large felines far west where they lived together instead of scattered throughout family territories. Powerful kings and queens of old who ruled large prides. A place where strength and loyalty and kinblood determined one's station instead of a committee. If that is so, there is a need for a Guardian to mediate these relationships. It is her honor-bound duty to provide peace for those who need assistance keeping it. Carrying the Guardian's banner past their existing boundaries drives her onwards, every step following the setting sun.

Bells, to announce your place in this world.

As she travels, the biomes change and the flora and fauna become strange to her. Instead of ocelots in the trees, she sees small felines no bigger than tiger cubs slinking through tall grasses. Slit-eyed snakes watch her from tree limbs— they leave her be as she passes under with quick, light steps. Crocodilia are familiar here, even this far away from home. The birds sing different melodies, the sunsets glow a different color at night after a lunar cycle of travel. No sign of these large felines yet.

Rings, to weigh fair your judgment.

Patience. Service. Temperance. Fortitude. Each one earned at times of great character. Patience and fortitude serve her well on this pilgrimage, throughout the long silences of quiet lands and the weather that sends her to shelter early in the day. This quest is a calling, a pull deep in her chest where her heart beats fast and strong for her mission.

Astrona goes to the valley not with a plan, but a mind full of eagerness.

Remember your station, dutiful one.
Keep your head clear, stoic one.
Speak your truth to all, kind one.
Walk your path, bold one.

May the Sun honor you as a Guardian of Peace, loved one.

What are they looking for and how did they get to the valley?: He came to find love. None of the beautiful tigresses would take him as a mate, so he ventured off to find others. Unfortunately, he isn't the smartest, and doesn't know where other tigers live since his streak was the only one in the jungle, he stumbled upon the waving grasses of the valley. The wind blew through his fur, and he huffed. " I hope I'll find somebody here... " He prayed, then started down a small dip in the land. As he was walking, he began to think about why he left his home. I left to start a family! I've always wanted one.. And I feel now is the time. He thought. Harimau started running up a tall hill to get a good birds eye view of the valley. He spotted, on the edge of the valley, a small piece of savanna, a group of large cats. " Tigers! " He said to himself, and started sprinting down the hill. It was like a bucket of liquid realization poured down on his head, it was too late to stop. Those aren't tigers.. Those are... " Lions! " He shouted, sliding into a large grey and cream cat.The lion whipped around, and crouched down ready to attack. " Who are you? " The large cat growled. " Uhm.. " Harimau's words were being force fed back inside of him... He could not speak. " Yes? " The lion urged. Harimau took a large breath of air. " I-I though-t you a-and your lovely p-pride were, uh.. Tigers.. A-and I came over, and th-then I realized that you weren't who I thought you were... and.. I-I.. I'm sorry... " He coughed up his words in one long exhale. " Where is your streak? " The lion seemed curious. " I-I left... to find love! " He admitted. " ... What? " The large feline tilted his head and smirked teasingly. " Well, you see... My streak lives in a large jungle, and none of the tigresses liked me enough to want to take me as a mate.. And I've always wanted a family to take care of. " He shuffled his large paws uncomfortably. " Why would they not like you? " The lion asked. " Well, I was our king's guard.. and the tigresses always thought I was a show off.. but I was just trying to do my job. " The lion felt sorry for this pathetic creature. " Well, I don't have a guard, and there are lots of lovely lionesses here... " He hinted. " Really? " Harimau leaped to his paws. The lion smiled, and started walking to the pride rock. " Come along! " He called out. Harimau race after him. Finally! He thought.

"...Baby, we're a little different, no need to be ashamed."

What are they looking for and how did they get to the valley?

There is a tale the tells of a story of a beautiful golden lotus that grew against all odds in the shade of a vast overgrowth of trees, where nothing else would grow. It grew, but would not bloom. Until, over several days and nights, a terrible wind and storm uprooted many of the trees and ripped them away, while the lotus held on. Battered and bruised, it remained.

When the morning came, and the first beam of sunlight shone down on the lotus, it finally bloomed. In that moment, Shayuu was born from the lotus, and it withered away.

The tiger was lost. He came into the world without knowing anything, but his harsh time spent in the darkness, until he felt the first warmth of the sunlight. Knowing nothing, but wanting to know more, he did only what he could do. He wandered. He survived. But no matter the sights he saw, or the creatures he met, nothing felt right. He met other tigers, and found he was not like them, so moved on, each time. Though, he found himself beginning to desperately seek company. He felt alone, and voiceless, in a world he still hardly understood.

Some years passed, creeping along slowly. And, while the world changed, the tiger did not. Though, he closed in on himself, hiding himself away from the world.

But, one day, he felt a strange tug in his heart. Something he could not explain. Without giving it a second thought, his paws began to carry him in a direction, without him being able to comfortably deviate from the path.

After many cycles of the suns and moons, Shayuu carried himself onward and onward. Each day, more desperate than the last to find whatever it was he was looking for.

Until the day he laid his eyes a young large cat with a pelt as dark as night. But it was no tiger he was looking at, it was a lion. A strange lion, at that. Observing from a far, he witnessed the neglect of the lion by members of his own pride. No matter how hard the lion tried to speak to someone else, no one would ever answer him. No one would ever look at him. Until he almost lost his voice altogether.

For some reason, even he could not explain, he could not look away and leave the lion alone for long.

When the lion was sad, though, Shayuu would become the light, and stay beside him and give him warmth, even if he could not be seen or sensed by the lion in such a miraculous state. If he was alone, then at least the tiger could watch over him. As his guardian.

In the rare moments when the lion smiled, the tiger found himself smiling, too.

And when the lion finally braved leaving his home behind, the tiger considered moving on. He watched over the lion, keeping him company from afar and keeping him warm with his ability to command the sun and its light. But when he left, his heart began to ache, and that same tug at his heart appeared again.

He tried to ignore it. He really did try.

But he found himself running the same path that the lion had taken as he ventured away, until he found him again. And, this time, the lion was not alone. No, he wasn't, and he as happy. And Shayuu thought there was no place for him now.

But, for the first time ever, the lion noticed him. And before the tiger could dissipate into light and run away, the lion appeared before him, using the shadows, and said, "You're really warm."

And he knew.

---

Shayuu did not know it back then, but he had been looking for the lion, Vayde. At first, he was only curious and wanted to protect him but, in the end, he found himself falling in love. And when he tried to rationalize his feelings away and leave when he felt he was no longer needed, he could not bring himself to do it.

And, in the end, Vayde sensed the same warmth from Shayuu that he always felt, that always brought him comfort. And wanted to stay with him, too.

What are they looking for and how did they get to the valley?:‪ ‬

It was deceptively quiet. In the middle of the jungle, one would except an abundance of noise; from birds calling to leaves rustling in the wind, there was always something... Except for now, where in their place was nothing at all.

However, this did not startle the resting mother. Had she been prey, perhaps then she would’ve worried, but in this jungle—no matter the hour—she was the king. At the top of the food chain, she was the reason life in the jungle seemed to halt, no one daring to cross her path. Especially now that she had a kit, all knew it was in their best interest to stay as far away as possible, thus silence rang out wherever they went.

Unfortunately that was not the case today, for a different and unusual predator had also arrived—arguably the most dangerous of them all. While they’re not naturally something to fear, they’ve managed to forge their own place leagues above the rest with their innovative—and often underhanded—methods.
So they waited until the middle of the day, during the deepest part of the tigers sleep, to make their move. Unaware and vulnerable, it was the perfect opportunity for them to—

Heart pounding, Aelius jerked awake, banging his head on the top of his small cage. Immediately one of his captors, only just out of reach, screeched. Silence. He knew this command well, and he’d long stopped fighting recklessly, a result of what they did to his mother so many sunsets ago. Every day they had taken her away, bringing her back weaker and weaker until one day she just didn’t return. They had yet to take him, but he knew it was only a matter of time, so he had to be smart.

Settling back down, he prepared himself for yet another day of torment. Would he be fed more than scraps? Would he be allowed fresh water? His mother had always told him they were kings worthy of reverence, but it was clear that here they were nothing. Trapped within steel bars and surrounded by enemies, the question was simple: what was he to do? The answer was far simpler: nothing. Just as he was, he would do, until the day arrived when he could escape.

Another thing his mother told him, shortly before her mind collapsed entirely, was that he was different from other tigers. Born with the sun in his heart, its light coursing through his veins, he was destined for greatness someday. It meant very little to him at the time, but now looking back he couldn't help but wonder how much was truth and how much was hope. In the end it didn’t matter, for if it was the last thing he did he would escape this retched place. King or no, his place was not here; of that much, he was certain. Truly he felt it in every fiber of his being, the desire to be free.

...

Several suns had risen and set before one came that called to him. It set his heart aflame, made him feel more energized, more alive, than he could remember. Not to mention how worried it made his captors, fidgeting while they stood and running everywhere they went. It made him wonder, Could they feel it too?

Did it scare them?

Something was happening and he was ready, prepared to pounce at any time. He growled at his captors. Silence. They screeched. Silence! But their commands were nothing compared to the fire in his veins, to the winds of change blowing through the compound. It was time, for what he did not know, but he could feel it all the same.

...

They attacked themselves. While tigers shared no great unity, they would never attack one another just because they could, yet that is exactly what these beasts did. He was at their mercy, yet in they came, hunting down his captors, taking his cage outside the compound, and opening the door. Be free. They seemed to say.

There was no way it could be this simple, and yet, stepping outside the cage a wave of peace settled over him. Charging forward, he disappeared into the forest.

...

Eventually he had to stop running. Alone, and admittedly out of depth, he didn’t know what to do. So, he kept wandering until someone called out,” Hello? Are you okay?” Turning to meet the voice, he suddenly felt calm and reassured.

He wasn’t, but here he would be.

What are they looking for and how did they get to the valley?:
„What am I actually looking for?“, Lucian asked himself while taking a rest under a tree on his long journey. „A place where I belong. But where is that? Where am I not an outcasted one for being different?“ He looked down on his big paws, his tiger paws. This thought made him dig his claws deep into the dry but somehow soft ground. He looked up from his paws, his glaze glancing over the lake right in front of him, allowing him to catch a glimpse of his reflection in the water. His fur glowed golden in the light of the setting sun. He felt a stab in his soul as he realized how different he was, why he has went on this journey. For an elusive moment, he had forgotten that there was no place where he belonged.
It was already getting dark and he decided to stay there for the night. „This is actually a very nice place to live”, he thought. But then he thought about the lion footprints he saw on the way through the valley. „They wouldn’t accept me and just chase me away too...“, he thought and went into a light sleep. But what he didn’t knew was, that the lioness, whose footprints he had seen was nearby and that she was much more like him than he thought.

It was in the middle of the night. A dark shadow hushed by, waking Lucian up. He immediately jumped up, looking around trying to figure out what that shadow was. A soft voice with a sassy undertone growled out of the shadows, the eyes glistening in the moonlight: “You do have a lot of courage to just walk into lion territory, you tiger” But Lucian suddenly didn’t fear the shadow anymore. The lioness had outcalled herself by talking, making it easier for Lucian to figure out where she was and noticing the absence of a pride scent on her. “Well, I have to return that compliment, you too have courage to show up alone, little lioness.”, he growled at her, now being able to make out her rough shape. She was a sleek, very dark furred lioness. Actually very pretty. So why was she alone and didn’t belonged to a pride?
Suddenly the lioness just walked out of the shadow stepping right towards Lucian, making him to go backwards. “Hello. I’m Nyala. And you are?”, she said with her soft voice without any sassy attitude. “I’m Lucian”, he said. “So why is a tiger so far in the lion lands?”, Nyala asked him. “Well...”, Lucian said, unsure about what to answer. “What is a lioness like you doing here without a pride?” “I have a pride!”, she said. “No you don’t.”, Lucian said with secureness. For a moment Nyala didn’t know what to answer and then sat down and said: “They chased me away for being different.”, she said without even looking at him. “All my siblings had a light coloured pelt like my parents and the rest of my pride, The Pride of New Light. Everyone except for me. They said, I was a bad omen and decided to get rid of me. Since then I’ve been wandering around.” After a pause she looked at him and asked, “So what’s your story?”
“Well, I- I was member of a pride too.” “But I thought tigers were loners?”, Nyala asked. “I meant a lion pride.” She looked at him with a mixture of disbelief and confusion in her eyes. “My mother was a lion. In my litter all my siblings looked like her, except for me.” “Wait, you’re telling me your parents were lions?!” “My mother was a lion but.. I don’t know who my real father is. The king got mad and decided to throw our litter out so the hyenas could eat us, but our mother convinced him not to. She didn’t care about me tho and claimed I wasn’t her son, so I ended up being banished after a couple moons of living with them being punished for everything.”
“I- I am so sorry...” “you don’t have to, Nyala”, he said, looking her into the eyes. “I mean I’m free and can do whatever I want. You’re free too!” “I guess so...but we’re still outcasted.” “I don’t care. I’ll just found my own pride!” “Alone?”, Nyala giggled. “I’m not alone, I have you.” Her eyes gleamed with joy. “Yes. We’ll make this here our territory. The Kingdom of the outcasted.

What are they looking for and how did they get to the valley?:

childhood
helios was born in the savanna. abandoned at birth.
he learned to hunt and heal on his own. he had no
one to ever care for him. helios was thrown into the
river and that's how he got to the savanna. helios
felt odd, living on the savanna. why couldn't he be
normal like the other tigers? why was he thrown into
the river? he was a normal tiger. he didn't understand.
life was hard with being alone all the time. it made him
more hard and untrustworthy. he thought everyone he meant
would just lie to him. it was not an easy life at all. he felt
more like a sun slave than god.

adulthood
helios started to hang out with a lion called rio. rio was a
young cub and part of a pride called sun pride. rio really
like helios despite him being a tiger. rio invited him into
the pride but helios declined, knowing a tiger would never
really be welcomed into a lion pride. rio begged helios for
years and years. rio's pride was weak. helios felt pity for
the young one. so he decided to give it a shot. helios went
into the pride and a million eyes were on him at once. he
was stared at by everyone. the leader said if he could kill
him then he could join. some laughed and "pffted". helios
was filled in rage. all his life he was mocked for being a tiger
in the savanna. He had been thrown into a river and brought
to the land and almost starved. while these lions had prey
and had a good life. he fought and would not back down.
he had to admit the lion did have some good blows but he
was stronger. he defeated the leader and felt some guilt.
instead of laughing the pride members were now in fear
and rio had a smug look on their face. this is only the
beginning of helios.....
