Amongst these acts, his most famous and beloved one is him pulling out flowers from seemingly nowhere, like pretending to cough it up or pull it out of his ears. He ends up giving the flower he pulls out to a random member of his audience, and although they're usually a little grossed out, they mostly happily accept the gift. (There's a rumour going out that he can pull an entire bouquet out of his nostril for children or ladies in his audience)

jodie looked nervously through the window of his flower shop at the motorcycle parked out front. every tuesday at 2:00 sharp, the bike pulled up to the curb as the owner presumably visited the neighboring coffee house. the bike itself wasn't interesting (jodie hated fast and loud things), but rather the rider caught his attention. he tried not to stare too intensely when the dark eyed, rider dismounted his metal steed. it would be rude to stare at those...muscles. and those amber eyes. and god, those flashy punk outfits...heck.

jodie wrung his hands as he looked around, checking that the small shop was empty. jodie loved looking at boys almost as much as he loved his flowers. he'd always been a natural green thumb, it was only natural he'd start his own little business after a few years of community college. jodie bowers stunning flowers! beautiful blooms lined the walls. tulips, carnations, roses, tigerlillies, he loved them all! as he scanned the shop he settled his gaze on some beautiful orange marigolds. where had he seen those before? oh, he blushed, the bikers eyes were around that shade of orange.

filled with a sudden wave of uncharacteristic boldness, jodie found himself pulling some marigolds out of their water buckets. he carefully selected the sever most healthy flowers, wrapping them up into a bouquet with care. he finished the package off with a black ribbon and small card with a doodle of a smiley face. after checking the shop again, he darted outside and gently placed the flowers on the leather bike seat. heart racing and feeling flushed, jodie hurried inside hoping that his crush would appreciate the little gift.

the rest of the day was busy, as people mulled around the shop. jodie wrapped up plenty more boquets, but none more important than the one he made earlier. before he knew it, it was time to close! he flipped the shop sign, and noticed the biker had left. jodie felt his heart sink, until he realized there was a napkin shoved haphazardly under the door. he opened it and unfolded the napkin. scrawled in red sharpie a note read:
"thanks cutie!"

    name; Dewey Summers
    gender; Male
prompt; (I reached 2000 words omg I'm sorry I got carried away, but I did enjoy writing this!)

It had always been what he saw in movies: flowers for you, my love.

Dewey didn’t seem like the romantic type at first sight, but he tries to be – he’s in love with a man he’s going steady with, someone who isn’t labelled his boyfriend yet but they’re getting there, Dewey swears. It was a series of dates: movies, picnics, dinners, etc., and they’ve been seeing each other almost every weekend. Sometimes he calls the shots, sometimes his date. Date nights were Saturday night, when both of them were free from work or other personal matters.

xxxxxA bouquet of roses please! I’d love to impress my date with a simple yet stunning flower arrangement.

He had said just what he saw in the movies last weekend, when he was with his date. Dewey had always loved the thought of giving flowers to someone who deserved it – oh, how he romanticized those bloom of colors and fascinated over giving or receiving them! – and this weekend, he thought of gifting flowers to the man he loved the most.

Red roses are for love and admiration, how often do you think people give flowers to strangers?

The florist asked, quite out of the blue. Dewey hadn’t been listening to her question – he sneezed loudly as she was talking.

Once Dewey paid for the bouquet of roses, he left in a jolly mood. On his way to the park he was humming, swaying his body back and forth almost as if he wanted to skip. His heart was fluttering with the thought of giving his date a bouquet flowers, something he hasn’t tried before.

    xxxxxA – A – Achoo!

He sneezed again and shook his head to get himself back on track. A minor reaction, nothing to worry—

    xxxxxAchoo! Achoo! A – Achoo!

At first, he thought it was cute, but now the itchiness of his nose was bothering him so that he had to sit on a bench to keep himself together. He set aside the bouquet by his side and waited a while.

By his side was a woman, probably around the same age as Dewey. She had been on the phone since he sat down and until now was still on the phone. He couldn’t help but overhear her conversation:

xxxxxI’ve been waiting an hour, where have you been? … Are you even coming here? Hello? Where—

Dewey heard the phone call end abruptly just as the woman was in the middle of the conversation. It was a line of phone beeps followed by the soft sobbing of the woman. She had tried not to make it obvious to Dewey, but she knew well he got the context of what was going on by that time.

xxxxxWe planned to go to the fair in the other town this weekend, but I’ve been waiting and waiting and he never showed up.

Dewey wasn’t sure if she had been talking to him or to herself, but it would be rude not to comfort a woman when her date doesn’t show up. Surely, he wouldn’t want his date to be a no-show, either; that would break his heart.

    xxxxxDo you like flowers?

The woman didn’t respond, for she covered her face within the palm of her hands.

Dewey slowly picked up his bouquet of roses from his side, careful not to keep it too close to his nose, and nudged it at the woman.

xxxxxRoses are for love and admiration, the florist told me. I hope you like roses; I admire your patience with the person you are waiting for, and I hope your love will not go wasted.

The woman put down her hands to show her face of grief, followed by a little chuckle as she gazed at the bouquet presented in front of her.

xxxxxAren’t those roses for your date or something?

xxxxxYes, but I am a tad bit worried I’m actually allergic to roses.

The realization that he had allergies settled in Dewey way too late that he laughed at the thought, and the even the woman too caught up in her emotions ended up laughing as well.

xxxxxBesides, there are other gifts I can give my date. But for you – yes, I do believe you deserve these flowers.

A random gesture for a random stranger. Dewey felt a sense of happiness that he’s made someone smile today. It only occurred to him as the day was closing in and his date was drawing near that Dewey had given his original gift away. He panicked and bought heart-shaped chocolates from a nearby shop instead, an alternative to a sweet gift.

The following weekend was movie night, and Dewey and his date planned on watching a romance comedy film downtown. Since last week’s fiasco, Dewey stayed away from roses, claiming he was allergic to red roses and vowed never to buy them again. Of course, another week was another shot at giving his date flowers, something he’s never accomplished before, and this second chance at it he chose tulips.

Tulips are for an undying love and wish for prosperity. Do you have someone you’d like to keep in your life?

Just as Dewey was about to respond to the florist, he sneezed again and promptly forgot to reply.

Walking out of the flower shop, Dewey took a shortcut in the same park he was at last week. He passed by the benches he sat on last week with the woman who cried – she wasn’t there this week, and Dewey hoped she was doing alright since then.

    xxxxxA… Achoo! Achoo! Sniffle, sniff

The string of sneezes commenced again, and it seemed Dewey was not around any roses to allow him to sneeze. He gazed at his bouquet of flowers, which prompted him to sneeze again.

    xxxxxAchoo! Ah…

Thankfully, before Dewey made a scene of excessive sneezing, someone came up to him and tapped him on the shoulder, startling Dewey. He turned around and met an old man, who was smiling at him.

xxxxxSorry for the bother, young one, but how much do those flowers cost?

Dewey gazed at the tulips in his hands and pointed at them, asking if the old man meant these flowers, to which he nodded.

    xxxxxAround fifteen dollars, sir.

The old man brought up his hand, the palm of which held a few coins. He started counting the money and his face soon turned into what looked like disappointment after exhausting all the change in his pockets.

xxxxxIt is I and my wife’s 30th anniversary today, but I have not money to buy her expensive things. She does loves tulips though. I had wished they were cheaper.

The old man thanked Dewey and walked away, leaving Dewey standing there with flowers he seemed to be allergic to. For a few seconds he pondered – soon he whispered apologies to himself and ran up to the old man, giving him the bouquet of tulips.

xxxxxOh, what, are you giving them to me? I was under the impression you were out here to impress a young lady.

Dewey shook his head twice to signify that, one, he’s decided won’t give the flowers to his date, and two, that his date wasn’t a young lady.

xxxxxSir, it is a sad day for me to come to the conclusion that I am in fact allergic to these tulips, but I would like today to be a joyful day for you and your wife.

The man was hesitant at first to not look rude, but slowly reached for the tulips and held them close to his heart, like a child cradled with care.

xxxxxThank you so much, you don’t know how much this means to me! My wife will be thrilled and we’ll have a great anniversary today. I do hope you have a great day too, and may your date with your girl go well!

Dewey was about to correct the man and say he wasn’t dating a girl, but the man scurried away in sheer happiness before he could even respond. He shrugged, thinking that this weekend he was able to make another stranger happy with a bouquet. Of course, that left him gift-less again, and he visited a toy shop and purchased a small stuffed animal for his date.

The third weekend Dewey made a mental note that he was allergic to both roses and tulips, and denied any thought that he was, in general, allergic to flowers. The movies never depicted a man in love who was also allergic to all flowers – how preposterous of a love life would be had the main character shy away from flowers! Dewey insisted that he wasn’t allergic to all flowers, and proposed he buy not a bouquet this time but a single stem of sunflower.

Sunflowers are a symbol of hope, joy, and success. Are you thankful for anything today?

Dewey sneezed so loudly he wasn’t able to hear the florist.

As Dewey stepped out of the flower shop, he was finally able to breathe – this was going to be the day he could finally give his date flowers! A flower, rather, but Dewey thought it was no less romantic as long as the flower was beautiful.

Walking through the park made him contemplate about the week before; he hoped the man’s wife was happy with the flowers and that they had a wonderful anniversary. Dewey always loved the thought of living life with someone he truly wanted to be with.

On his way to his date – which was, by the way, a picnic date – he encountered a group of toddlers, all wearing dark blue graduation gowns and caps while holding a stem of sunflower just as lovely as Dewey’s. Around thirty of them were marching around the park, probably practicing for today’s graduation ceremony.

Dewey passed by the lot of them, who all seemed excited that they were moving up. They played around with the stem of flower, some waving it around while others sniffed it non-stop. As Dewey moved further away from the group, he came across one lone toddler in a graduation gown who was crouched up on the ground, his face in a pout. Dewey wasn’t one to approach just anyone, but it seemed this kid might have needed a little help.

    xxxxxWhat’s wrong?

    There was no response.

xxxxxAren’t you with the kids there who are going to graduate?

The child must have been taught not to talk to strangers, and it wasn’t like Dewey had a right to hold it against him because Dewey was, in fact, a stranger.

It occurred to Dewey what had been missing from the child: a sunflower! It seemed to Dewey that the child was lacking the happiness the others seemed to exude because of the absence of his flower.

Gazing upon the stem of flower in his hand, Dewey slowly reached it out to the child, giving a smile of assurance that is was alright for him to take the flower. The child who kept focus on the ground now had his eyes set on the flower presented to him.

xxxxxThey didn’t give me a sunflower. They were missing one flower for the class, and they said I won’t get a sunflower but I should just borrow from someone else if people will take a picture of me. It’s unfair! I want my own flower!

Dewey inched the flower closer to the child.

xxxxxYou can have this, I promise. Congratulations, and happy graduation!

The toddler immediately snatched the flower out of Dewey’s hand, his expression quickly shifting to something of extreme happiness. He stood up from the ground and hugged Dewey real tight, shouting, "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" before running over to his group of classmates, waving the sunflower high above his head.

It seemed to Dewey after all this time that the gestures he’s done made him happy, and this time around he didn’t need his allergies to prompt him to give a little kindness once in a while. That’s why when he turned up to his picnic date that afternoon without a gift, he explained to his date what had happened the past weekends that led him to his realizations today.

xxxxxI’m proud of you for spreading a little piece of happiness to others. I’m happy as long as you’re happy, and I don't need any flower for me to be happy for and with you.

His date whispered to him as they sat by an old tree on a hill. “Flowers for you” always meant to Dewey as something romantic, but flowers symbolized much more than just romance, he’s realized. Who would’ve known that Dewey would feel this happy giving flowers despite not being able to do it romantically like they do in movies?

Josie smiles softly, plucking each flower purposefully from her garden. They give a little spring, the morning dew shaking off of them as she places them delicately in her vase to keep them fresh until noon when she goes out. Every season heralds different flowers, and so every season Josie's garden is new. New. She likes that. It reminds her that in her seasons, even bad ones, they also end and become new.

Josie goes into town. She finds the stranger who needs a little 'new', and has written down anonymous love letters telling of value and hope, and when she finds someone a bit blue or sad, she leaves them the flower with the little note attached with twine.

deni was extremely close to his family, especially his grandmother. she was the light of his life. every year his grandmother would put flowers up around the neighborhood in little plant pots and hanging baskets. she would even give some to strangers in bouquets and would wish them a good day! deni used to join her every year from the ages 7-14. she was the kindest soul he could ever of known. sadly, a few years ago she passed away. deni was shaken and torn for quite a well but as soon as he recovered he decided to set out to let her memory life forever. every year he continues doing what his grandmother did so she's never forgotten. he also plants new flowers next to her grave annually as he believes that's what she would of loved.

Maybe something kind of sad, like their mother/father/both parents died [or wasn't liked by parents?] So they decided to give flowers to everyone in case their parents were like that too?

Depressed child trying to spread happiness
