Quote explanation: Amory used to say whatever was on his mind,
no matter how it would affect those around him. He grew up with
a quick wit and a quicker mouth, and the more he met and talked
and later destroyed people the more his demons grew. When he got
older and grew quiet, he started using his mouth in a different way.
He became a writer, a poet and musician, and wrote some fairly
depressing but all too relatable works. At night the things he said
still haunt him, in the form of demons and nightmares.

In kindergarten, Marvel made a family tree: pieces of string swirling from one name to another, connections upon connections, herself in the middle. Twenty strings connected to her, labelled “Mom” and “Edith the Tightrope Walker” and “Sam the Ringmaster” and the rest of the circus she called home.

“You can’t have this many parents,” said the teacher, breaking the crudely taped strings.

Marvel connected them all again.

At her high school graduation, Marvel waded through a crowd of caps and gowns to the bubble of Kalons in the auditorium calling her name, wishing her luck and giving her bear hugs. They'd seen her through skinned knees and term papers, all of them, and yes, she could have this many parents.

When Athena was young, her mother would tell her stories. In some of those stories, there were monsters. From dragons to witches, they riddled her nightmares as she slept. On these nights, her mother would remind her that in every story, the monster was beaten. The knight would slay the dragon or the princess would trick the witch, and all would be well again. For many years, this brought comfort to Athena's sleep.

One day, something strange happened. For the first time in years, Athena had to face a monster once again. This monster was different, though, and it lived in the shadows of Athena's mind. Athena feared for the worst, as she was no princess nor knight. But in her darkest nights, her mother's voice would call to her, reminding her that all monsters could be beaten. And through her mothers words, she won, never to be afraid again.

Aaru didn't have the easiest childhood, she didn't live in the best part of town and was often made fun of for having adoptive parents. But Aaru always managed to stay positive and see the best in as much as she could, and a major part of what enabled her to look past all of the hate was the music she listened too. This quote truly stood out to her as a truth that so many people could benefit from. Because to her, The people around her who threw hate in her face were not truly judging her, but were simply putting up an aggressive sandpaper like bluff so their own insecurities wouldn't show.
