the only thing standing between you and your dreams is reluctance. - carroll bryant
"if you think about it, every dream really is achievable. for example - man on the moon. everyone
thought that it was just an impossible dream to achieve. some people straight out admitted it.
'[ man will never reach the moon ] regardless of all future scientific advances.' ~ dr. lee de
forest, inventor of the audion tube and father of radio, on february 25, 1967.
well, dr. lee de forest was proven quite wrong, the first man stepped foot onto the glorious moon
on the date july 20, 1969. since then, they have still been sending people up to walk upon the
thing that control our tides. the dream/goal that everyone thought was impossible was achieved.
if you believe in what you want to do hard enough, if you work for that goal hard enough, your
dream will be achieved sooner of later, no doubt about it. another example, america's
freedom is a good example. the brits and the rest of the world didn't think that the puny little
continent called 'america' would ever fulfill its independence.
'nothing of importance happened today.' written by king george the third, july 4, 1776.'
in the end, america wanted to achieve independence so badly, that they
finally got what they asked for. the citizens pulled through and beat england
at their own game. at the time, england's army was considered the best.
militiamen beat highly trained soldiers at their own game, because that's just how much they want
ed their freedom. of course, everyone could hardly believe it. every dream is possible to achieve,
and if you work hard enough to deserve it, you will accomplish that goal. these days, the only thing
standing between people and their dreams is simple reluctance, simple laziness. people have simply
stopped trying." - althea, january 6, 2015.

althea, the plumie born for leading. of course, that isn't what she wants. she doesn't want
a life filled with perfect posture, quiet smiles, being in the company of other leaders, and c
ameras tracking her every move, despite her parent's wishes. it took althea a while to realiz
e that she was a leader, but not one fit for the life royalty. instead, she dreams to be comin
g a doctor someday, to someday become a philosopher/writer. for years and years, she was
too scared to tell her parents what she yearned for, unable to let them down in any way. she
ended up fessing up a mere month before her own coronation, simply mentioning the fact d
uring a peaceful dinner. at first, her parents were completely stricken, until athea told the
m her reasons. they approved afterwords, just wanting to keep their daughter happy.

it was continuing to get more and more hard to deny what thea wanted. she didn't want to disappo
int her parents and the rest of the country, that was for sure. but her thirst for achieving her own d
ream was continuing to haunt her. it had gotten worse the past year. now, a month before her ver
y own coronation, she was feeling like backing out. what a horrible daughter she was. her parents
were the absolute best, and she would do nothing but tear down their dreams for her future. the
future that thea didn't want, and never would want. how selfish of a creature she was. for the last
couple of months, she had slept only the maximum of four hours every night. she did nothing but
write and read, in private, in secret. she read about all sorts of plants that could cure all sorts of
diseases and wounds. even some that could help with depression. she had been taking some of th
ose plants that could help her get a little happier herself. she didn't want the life of fancy crowns
and the public eye watching her every move. she wasn't fit for that position. she wanted to be som
eone who could help others in an ordinary way, applying ointments and bandages for scratches, and prescribing medicines for things she couldn't fix on
the spot. she wanted to be a doctor. she wanted to be a philosopher. the pen and paper had always sort of called out to her, and her favorite course
that she was taking was creative writing and science. the only problem was coming out to her parents.
later that evening,
this was it for her. if her parents didn't decide to accept her for who she was; a girl, trying her hardest to become a doctor, not a girl who would one
day be helping someone else rule a country, it would be all over for her. she couldn't turn down her parents, and if it was what they wanted, she would
do what they requested. it was only fair. but she would try her hardest to convince them. she was sure that once they learned why she was so perfect
for the job, they would understand. she had spent nights up, working hard on the things she wanted. she deserved this.
scurrying into her seat, thea began to fiddle with her silverware absentmindedly as her parents began to discuss politics, as usual. this continued for

scurrying into her seat, thea began to fiddle with her silverware absentmindedly as her parents began to discuss politics, as usual. this continued for
a few more minutes before they both turned to thea to ask her about her day. well, this is it. "yes, mother, my
day was great." she answered to her mother's first question. "but i have something to tell you. it's quite important."
both of her parents raised their eyebrows in her direction, beckoning for thea to continue. "well, i'm not too sure
about this coronation thing." both of their eyebrows went a little higher, if that was even possible. "what ever do
you mean, child? it's natural to be nervous for this." her mother murmured, "in fact, i was nervous at my own too."
"that's not what i mean. i don't want to live the royal life, mom. i want to become a doctor. it's my dream." an
awkward silence spreads across the table. "i mean, i have a really, really good reason why. my eyes, mom. you
know that they're... strange. you remember that one time, when i was a toddler, how i cried for hours when i
saw that homeless man?" her mother nodded in silence. "i could see his pain. i wasn't afraid of him. he was in a
great deal of pain. i felt bad for him. i didn't realize what exactly i was seeing until i saw it again about two
years after the incident. the more older i grow, the more easier i can see these people's pain. i can help,
mom. i can only see in the golden eye though. i guess it's a gift or something. being a doctor is a perfect job
for me, and i can help a lot more people with medicine than i can help sitting on a throne. i was never meant
to be a queen. plus, i've been studying up. i know about all sorts of plants that can cure people. i'll work hard,
i promise. it's more than just a hobby. i've also been helping some of the staff in the medical wing. just think

about it, okay? i don't think i'll even be able to rule alongside someone else, much less rule at all." more silence. and then finally, "child, do you really
think you can see other's pain? i mean, i know that eye of yours is special. how could i not be? but if you decide to choose this path, you can't just
change your mind. it will be a permanent change." thea's father nodded alongside his wife, concern shadowing his iris. "it will be permanent, i
swear it. i want it to be permanent." her parents exchanged looks. "you seem quite into this sort of thing. if it is what you wish, than you may train
alongside the nurses become a doctor."
