I knocked and tripped over several tables as I scrambled
out the door, adrenaline pumping in my blood. I gripped a sack firmly
between my teeth and kicked the door open with all my might. Several
yells sounded from behind me but I dared not look back. My feet thumped
on the stone ground as I ran through the street markets, weaving my way
through shoppers and crashing and bumping into crates of goods and items.
I heard many angry shouts but I didn't care, all I thought about was escape.
Steps pounded behind me and I urged myself to go faster. Finally, I ran into
a dark forgotten alley. Silence. Good no one was chasing me. I leaped on an
empty wooden crate and opened the sack carefully. Gold. I counted the coins
and nodded to myself satisfyingly. At least I was going to survive, today. But
for how long? For I was a thief, a stealer. I had no one to go to and no one to
trust but myself. I learned this long ago by making a big mistake, but now I
can do nothing but growl at myself in disgust. The life of a thief was not easy
and very harsh. You were to be in constant danger and fear of your capture
and everyday, you would wonder where you would go, where you would rob
next. I sat down and let my screaming muscles rest, closing my eyes.
"He's right there! Capture him! He's the one who stole my gold!" a voice
boomed behind me and I heard several scrambling footsteps. I jumped
up and opened my eyes instantly. I saw the kiamara that I had robbed
earlier running towards me followed by reinforcement guards. I kicked
a few crates to slow them down and jumped over the high wall covered
with slimy moss, overgrown and unkempt. I tied the sack securely at
my waist and raced towards the outskirts to the forests. Suddenly, I
felt something nick my ears and turned around just to see three fast
moving objects heading towards me. Bullets. I ducked, tails between
legs and entered the dark forest. It was dark and the brambles and
twisted roots threatened to trip me but I skillfully jumped and leaped
over them with ease. Silence. Again. Surely no one would go to this forest.
It was known to be filled with beasts of all sorts but I didn't care. I just
wanted to rest peacefully. The round moon shone ever so brightly in the
sky and I sighed and climbed up on a high yet sturdy branch of the tree.
"Don't move." I heard a growling voice behind me. I felt the cold tingling
of the all too familiar gun resting on my should and I tried hard not to gulp.
I was caught. It was over. Suddenly I heard a kick and a sound of muffling
and the gun was violently tugged back from my shoulder. "Go, run now!"
Said another voice and without a second thought I paced away into the night,
the moon to guide me.Whoever that saved me I was grateful for that. But who
was it? I had no time to look back except run forward. I am Laval, the thief and
I will always be on the run.
