Story: Arian looked up and over the barbed wire fence that he was standing next to. The fence was the only thing that separated him from freedom in the mountains. However, it was so far out of reach. "Freedom, it's so far away. I'll never be free again." he whispered with a flick of his tail. Arian remembered the day he was caught, he remembered it very well.

Mountains loomed overhead as three-year-old Arian stood next to them as the breeze caused the grass to sway. His eyes narrowed, accepting the challenge of going up the hard way. It would make him stronger and impress mares as well. "Well mountain, you have met your match!" he snorted and pranced before pulling himself back and sling-shotting himself upwards with a hefty gallop. He leapt over a fallen tree with ease but stumbled a bit after he stepped on some loose rocks. However, Arian wouldn't stop. No. He would never stop. He didn't want to. The feeling of wind in his mane made Arian feel free, freer than he had ever been. His large ears flicked everywhere as the wind screamed and hollered, as if it were cheering him on. "Almost there. Almost ther-." he stopped and jumped onto a ledge when he heard a low whinny. It was coming from a mare. It was a horse. Arian lifted his head and sniffed, barely catching any scent because of his limited sense of smell. Then, Arian heard the whinny again and followed it carefully. After a while, he finally saw a silver dapple Rocky Mountain Horse. "Who are you?!" he cried out as he pranced on a different ledge.
"I... Help!... Name is Chica." the mare replied. Because they were different, Arian could only understand some of her speech because of the fact that horses spoke differently. Their dialect was lower and broken up while an Equid's was soprano and somewhat smoother.
"Okay Chica!" Arian replied, bobbing his head up and down. He took a cautious step forward and made his way to the mare. Chica watched carefully in silence as Arian got to her. "Follow me, I'll show you a way down." Arian pawed at some rocks and they stayed in place, so he stepped on them as he chose a safe path. He began to move with Chica at his hindquarters. Suddenly, Chica slipped, but she regained her footing (hoofing?) and continued. When they finally got to the bottom of the mountain, Chica's coat gleamed with sweat as she trembled from fear. Her flaxen mane reflected the light of the moon, giving off a cream-colored aura.
"Thank... Um... Is your name?" Chica responded shakily as Arian shook out his coat.
"Arian. My name is Arian." he nickered as Chica nodded.
"I know a place we can go to. It has delicious grass." Chica flicked her tail, motioning for him to come. She made her way down a grassy hill as she lowered her head calmly. Then, something silver shone from Chica's hind left hoof. Arian wanted to ask about it, but he decided not to. Suddenly, Chica stopped dead in her tracks and Arian stopped as well. A loud holler entered the air as hooves thudded against the grassy ground with vigor.
"What?" Arian screamed as humans on horses galloped towards him. He then focused his brown gaze on Chica. "You!" He thrusted himself forward but a yellow-brown snake curled around his neck, tightening every time he pulled. Arian remembered that it was called a 'rope'. After the first rope, Arian reared and pawed at the air as another rope caught his right foreleg. "Nooo!!!!" A scream escaped Arian's mouth as he brought his hooves back to the ground. The hollering continued as he tried to get away, but it didn't help. Nothing did. He continued to struggle though. The whites of his eyes showed as he realized that he would never get out. Arian jumped forward again but he fell to the ground as a rope constricted his left hind leg, luckily not breaking any bones. A human yelled angrily at the human who roped his hind leg. Out of the corner of his eye, a human with black fur under his nose carried a sharp thing with amber-colored liquid inside, sloshing about. Pain suddenly coursed through Arian as the sharp end stuck into his side before coming out. With a cry, Arian's struggles began to cease slowly as darkness gathered around the end of his sight. He continued to scream and yell until his screams faded into a whimper and finally, silence filled the air as he gave one last kick before lying still.

Arian looked behind him to see Chica in a different pasture and he pinned his large ears back angrily before lowering his head miserably. He then moved away from the barbed wire fence and laid down, curling his tail around himself.
