- Her home planet is full of deep forests in shades of blue and pink, where a heavy stardust fog obscures the path no matter where you look. Vaele was the caretaker and guardian of these strange woods, often leading wanderers to safety by having them follow the bright light on her head. (And, of course, leading wrong-doers into dangerous traps via the same method.)
- She was born as a 'regular' Kalon, as far as her home planet went, but when she was a young child she became lost in the woods. The forest itself claimed her soul and took her in as one of its own.

xxxxxHome was the vaguest imprint of a dream; the faintest notion of a place so grand and mysterious that it felt unreal, yet it was deeply familiar at the same time. Sometimes, it came to her more clearly: she could see the details that had escaped her mind, the shades of violet in the bushes and the exact swirling patterns of cotton-candy blue that marked powder-pink trees. She saw glimpses of visitors to her home. There were lost children, friends who had decided to go on a daring adventure and didn't realize what sort of trouble they would end up in. There were professional explorers, ones who hoped to uncover the secrets of the fog and hopefully make a profit off their discoveries. There were those who felt the same pull to the forest as Vaele once had; those who innately felt its sacred nature and had a need to come into it and give their thanks.
xxxxxBut the clearer pictures of home left her as quickly as they came, leaving behind more questions that Vaele had started with. So, instead, what she described to the two Kalons from Earth that had been kind enough to help her out was something of a jumble. Vaele told them the concrete details of the land she'd left behind, interlaced with her feelings. She spoke of the colors: the blue, the pink, the purpleness of it all; she described how the trees stretched into the sky and pierced the starscape above the woods.
xxxxxAnd, of course, she couldn't leave out the fog. The fog was eternal. It hung over the forest like a thick blanket. In denser areas, it twinkled softly, as if it were a secondary night sky that made its home on the floor of the woods. The fog was a part of Vaele herself: it moved with her, streaming from her back and from the tips of her pointed ears. It obscured and protected, a blessing and a curse.
xxxxxVaele tried her best to tell Flynn and Helena what she knew, yet she understood that it likely made no sense. Her home was so much unlike this Earth, after all. It felt like a daydream, a child's imagination. However, she persisted in her descriptions, trying to paint the blurry picture that she saw in her mind.
xxxxx"...and," Vaele added, just as she finished her recollection, "it was everything to me."
xxxxx"Mhmm," Flynn said, with a nod. They put down their coffee cup. "But... that's all you remember? Nothing else?"
