Prompt Response:
I've always believed in magic, but not always in the way you'd think of.
I have believed there is magic in the way the stars dot the sky at night.

I have believed that there is magic in the way a child can have hope in all circumstances.
I have believed that there is magic in the way bubbles work.

I have believed that there is magic in the joyful moments you have with friends.
I have believed that there is magic in the hard things in life that come to conclusion.
I have believed that there is magic in the simple things.

I still believe that there is magic in these things and many others,
but I have a different thought of magic now.
I believe that magic...
the kind that fairies are said to have and
people want to make their dreams come true...
is real.

So why the change in heart?
I met someone who opened my eyes to a whole new world within ours.
I was out living in the streets when we met. Covered in grime and filth, I was unrecognizable.
Despite all this, I still had my child-like hope, my own version of magic that I clung to.
However...
Other kids wandering the streets had let go of that type of magic,
choosing to look at the glass half empty.
Some of them looked at life as if the glass was totally empty.
They were getting to me.
Pushing me around like a sack of potatoes for my belief that this life was ok,
that I was ok and happy.
They were jealous of this happiness despite the uncomfortable circumstances.
They wanted me to feel the same way as them.
And they almost succeeded too.
But that's when
Avery stepped in.
I had never spoken to him before,
but I knew that there was something different about this street kid.
He didn't seem to be like the downtrodden street kids,
but as far as I could tell, he wasn't like me either.
Avery stood up for me on the day when they were at the point of pushing me
past the brink of letting go of my version of magic.
He pushed and pulled them off of me.
And then, I'll never forget it, he plagued them with their fears.
One child was covered in spiders, another saw bats looking at them,
and the third yelled back at voices screaming at them from the walls.
I was dumbstruck and weak from being shoved around the alleyway,
so while these kids were being plagued,
Avery picked me up and brought me far out of their sight.
Later he told me that he only made it look and sound like those things were happening to the other kids,
but it looked so real it took me awhile to believe him.
Avery had brought me from that fight to an island off a bit in the water from our coast.
It was his safe haven that he was choosing to share it with me.
He told me while we were on that island that magic was real,
that magic was what he used to make the illusions that plagued the bullies.
I was shocked but amazed that magic was not only in fairy tales,
but also in real life!
I wanted to learn how to use it and asked Avery to teach me.
He didn't really know if I could use it,
for he only recently discovered that he was able to.
But we both figured it was worth a shot to try.
At first, I couldn't do anything remotely magical.
Avery grew stronger with his illusion magic,
and I didn't get anywhere with it.
Every time I got frustrated,
I stormed into the woods to get as far away from his progress as I could.
And every time I would come back to try again.
It was later on in our lives that we discovered that there are many types of magic,
as well as many types of magic users, all of which we invited to live with us on our island.
While
Avery could weave illusions that looked so tangible,
Piper could make small bouts of flame to use for her lanterns.
Welles could make others feel at ease with him, even if he didn't feel at ease.
Zafrina could do amazing stunts without fear of falling or being injured.
And me?
I am the mind reader and mind bender.
I can hear your thoughts and take control of them.
