blueberry was always more of a fruit kinda guy, although, vegetables, when served accordingly, can be just as much a treat. If he had to choose a favorite, he would have to say a good potato, simply because of the range of meals, it can create. Topped spuds, roasted potato, mash potato, smoked potato, but his favorite, potato bake. His grandma had made it for him every Christmas, and eventually, let him in on the secret recipe. If you are unaware what potato bake is, or can’t get the full satisfaction of your own recipe, I guess he could let you in on the recipe if you swear not to tell a soul! Well, if you promise, then I guess it wouldn’t hurt to tell you. First, lightly bake the finest potatoes ( sweet potatoes if you prefer ) you can find. Slice each of them, sprinkling a layer of tasty cheese and diced bacon in-between each layer of potato. Drizzle a little full cream milk once the container is full. Place it in an oven at 180 degrees and bake for 40 minutes. Mmm, just describing it is enough to make Blueberry drool. To him, potatoes are an offering from the Gods, the taste in your mouth is just magical. The oozing cheese and the delicate slices of potato, the bacon, to tender, and the milk balancing out each individual flavor into a masterpiece. As simple as potato bake sounds, the joy it brings to Blueberry, words cannot give justice to. The moment that potato bake touches his lips, his mood instantly lightens, memories of a family Christmas fill his mind. It reminds him of grandma, cooking while whispering in his ear, “I will tell you and only you, my special recipe for my bake potato.” Compared to his brothers and sisters he loved her the most, and not to brag, but he was her favorite. He and her were as close as two peas in a pod. She was his inspiration, his motivation, and his life. He missed her dearly, but smiled at the good times they had together, and the fun times they shared. It’s remarkable what something as insignificant as a potato, can do to someone, trigger an emotion, relive a story, revive a memory. No one knows how or why, perhaps its all in your brain, a vision, but it’s something Blueberry questions every day. It brings him so much wonder, so much curiosity, but at the end of the day, to the world, it’s just a thought lost at sea, to blueberry, its a thought of the world. Maybe it's because of the pain he suffers for her, maybe it is because its the closest thing he can get to his grandma, or maybe, it is just cause it reminds him so much of her and her unique smile, and the Christmas days that went past. Speaking of such brings a tear to his eye, it felt like it was yesterday he and her were walking through the park. He knew what he would be having for dinner tonight, potato bake in a room lit by candlelight, to sets of cutlery and plates, beside him and a photo frame of Grandma. For this reason, it is why, without a doubt, the potato is the best vegetable one could hold.
