what happened to their horn? (drawing or 300 words max) ;
The sun was beginning to set, the leaves before me turning a warm orange hue. I heard the rustle of the leaves, felt an ever so faint breeze. I had to get home soon.
I ran, looking for a way out of the forest as day turned to night. All around me I heard the crunch of leaves. I panicked, remembering the words my dear mother told me…
“Irene, you mustn't ever go in the forest alone. There are creatures called humans who will stop at nothing to take your horn”
The faint from both my horn and tail lit up in the nearly dark sky. Suddenly, I heard something else. Someone else. The bush behind me began to shake, and I knew my time was running out. I ran faster that night than I ever had before. I raced against the wind, sprinting like an Olympic athlete. A sound louder than anything I had heard rang in the distance. It was a gun.
My mismatched eyes widened. I had never heard a gun before, but I was frightened. Sweat trickled down my face as a tried to find a way home. My paw caught on a root. I fell.
I woke up, much later. Caged. Alone. I felt a throbbing pain, nearly head-splitting. I placed a gentle paw on the top of my head, expecting to feel the familiar curves along my horn. I felt nothing but a bruise. Shock rippled up my back. Where was my horn? I had learned from a young age I was supreme. Superior. A god. I had grown up, with the fact my horn made me special. Without out, I was like everyone else. Wet cold tears streamed down my dirt covered face. Life wasn’t worth living anymore. (295/300)
extra ;
There was a crash. The turning of a key. My cage swung open. A small boy stood before me, his face sporting strange purple blemishes. My instinct was to judge, to turn away in disgust. He held out a pudgy small hand. Despite all I had been taught about avoiding less than perfect others, I took his hand.
“Iwene!” the small boy named Ben called out, sitting on the dew covered grass. The sun was filled with an array of oranges and pinks. I joined my human friend, and we sat together on the hill, watching the beauty of nature. (100/100)
