Flora sat on the sofa with the blankets draped over her. She took a sip of her hot chocolate and pulled another blanket on top of her. Then Flora saw that her AC was on. The house was at 15 Degrees Farenheight. She wrapped herself in the blankets like a taco and went to the thermostat. She set it 78 Degrees. After a while, the house began to warm up. Flora took off one blanket every 10 minutes. She left her flowered blanket atop her now warm coat. She slinked back to the sofa and took a glass of chocolate milk with her.

Kaida layed under the stars, crimson eyes darting up and about as an ear flicked. God it was getting cold again. She hated and loved the winter months but god it was annoying to sit by a fire 24\7. She got herself up from the grass and trotted over to her little hut. Said hut, was decorated in glowing red flowers, matching her pelt. She slid through the narrow door, carefully stepping over blankets and pillows and over to the fireplace, embers giving a soft glow. She relit the flame, watching as the fires burned at the stocks of wood. She sighed, walking through her lonesome little hut to find a stone, nicely placed atop a table. She took the stone, it was a dark red, and it felt like it was alive in her jaws, warm and comforting. She took the stone and sat down back infront of the fire, the stone right by her side, warming her. She layed her head on her paws, pulling the stone closer. She closed her eyes, trying not to think, of the dancing shadows in her head, as the fire burned.

It started as a joke that she'd heard her grandfather say once upon a time, but when it came to winter, Camellia took it quite seriously. She stopped trimming her fur at least a month in advance, to allow it time to grow in thick and warm to shield her from the winds. Then began the eating. Soups, bread, cake, whatever she could get her fluffy paws on to shove into her mouth. After all, bulking up would allow her to stay warmer, right? And it was just too delicious to eat all of the fine things people made when they knew they were about to be trapped in their houses for months by the bitter snows. By the time spring came, she looked rather like a massive black and red yeti pulling herself from the piles that had built up around her house. One last thing she always did right before the first snow was set up her telescope. On calm, cold nights, she'd spend the entire time watching the stars flicker and dance, and it made her feel warm and fuzzy inside, like it was summer all over again.

xxxxxMost people looked forward to fall the most. The cool breezes, the colorful leaves cascading down around the whimsy trails of hair being lifted with the wind. Alec wasn’t most people though. He has always been known as the “weirdo” who appreciated that fall only last a maximum of two weeks. Alec anticipated the freezing chills of winter wind, the rosy cheeks that came with every step outside, the stocking capped heads roaming the streets. Not to mention the precious small kits tramping around outside filling their tiny little paws with snow before trying to pummel each other with the snowball. These were the things that made Alec happy. However, yes, he enjoyed all the seasons, but no other season was as cozy.
xxxxxThere was always something that flipped a switch inside Alec’s mind when that first snowflake hit his face. As this time of year rolled around again Alec jumped in excitement as the first flake landed on his nose. “Time to call out of school!” The forecaster beamed from the television set:
“If it’s possible to stay inside and out of the weather, it is very encouraged. We are looking at an accumulative of 14 inches of snow.”
Alec grinned from ear to ear, stripped off his gloves and hat, and settled down at his computer to write his professors an email.
Professor:
I’m sorry to inform you that I will not be able to attend class today, as I am worried as to my ability to return home safely after the storm.
I appreciate your understanding.
Sincerely,
Alec
xxxxxAlec moved the cursor to hover over the send button, and click. With the email sent Alec was free to enjoy the upcoming brew in peace. But the first snow storm of the year came with very important measures. Alec roamed his apartment gathering up all the blankets he could find: from the cheap store-bought couch throws to the quilts his grandmother had made just for him. The massive cloth pile overflowed from his arms as he carried them into the living room. With an extravagant display, Alec dropped the blankets into a heap on the floor, covering his bean bag chair, and pulled open all the curtains. The glass of the windows now exposed and the sun shining brightly through already reflecting off the snowflakes already slowing beginning to fall.
xxxxx“Just a few more finishing touches to the perfect day…” Alec trailed off as he practically skipped into the kitchen. Just a couple things are needed, he thought to himself. He pulled down a small box out of the pantry. Red velvet cake in a cup. Perfect. Alec dumped the contents into the mug and finished prepping his snack. “Five minutes in the microwave to bake this, should be just enough time to finish my hot chocolate.” Alec prepped a second mug with the hot cocoa mix and started boiling some water in the kettle.
Bells will be ringing, the glad, glad news.
Oh, what a Christmas, to have the blues.
My baby’s gone, I have no friends,
To wish me greetings, once again.
xxxxxAlec softly sang one of his mother’s favorite Christmas tunes as he prepped his snack. It was one of the last things Alec remembered of his mother; it was just a shame she thought she lost her baby when he was right there next to her. But her memories had faded and left an empty shell of what once was his mother, yet that never stopped him from loving her dearly. That’s why she was the kalon curled up in the blanket nest day dreamily watching the snow cascade and softly coat the ground below. [611 words]
