============
Moonlight beamed down on the rippling water in front of Flower her three kits sitting at her side all staring out at the water with blank expressions. She had her tail curled around them and brought them closer to her as a cold breeze ruffled their fur. Each one looked up at her almost at once when as she huffed. “What are we doing here mamma?” One of them asked curiously. She turned down to face them, gazing at them with prideful eyes. “You’re going to get your names.” She whispered. They all looked at each other confused. It was Feather who spoke up next. “But we already have names!” He mewed excitedly, poofing up his fur. “Why do we need new ones?” Flower smiled softly and bent down to touch her nose to his head. “Your warrior names. Do you remember the cats of the forest that I would tell you about?” The kits all nodded. “Well they were called warriors. They all had special names and I would like to give you your owns.”
Flower lined them all up, quickly giving them a scrape of the tongue grooming to clean their pelts before their big naming ceremony. She placed herself in front of them, puffing up her chest as she once was told all the leaders of the great forest cats do. She called them each one by one up to her, repeating a gargled version of the ceremonial words she was once told. Feather was first.
“My dear son Feather, please come forward.” Feather couldn’t stop himself from nearly shaking out of his pelt. He took a few brisk steps forward until he was closer to Flower, gazing up at her with buldging hazel colored eyes. “Feather,” She purred. “You were named for the way your pelt dances in a moonlight, as silver a feather floating down to the ground. I grant you the warrior name Featherwave for the way you prove yourself versatile and your willingness to endure any obstacle.” Of course the kits were just a few months old, not nearly old enough to be actual warriors. But Feather, now Featherwave, lifted his head high in the air to accept his new name proudly. Flower bent down and gently licked his head between the ears and he dipped his in return.
Now since joining the Tribe whenever someone asks how he was named, he gazed off into the distance recalling his unofficial naming ceremony performed by his mother before simply telling them he was named after a feather his mother saw falling to the ground, always keeping the truth to himself.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
