You approached Nettlestar as she was gently washing herself near the fresh-kill pile. She perked up her ears as she heard you approaching and looked up with a confused look, her amber eyes open wide.
xxx“Do you need something?” She asked with a bewildered expression. She swept a paw over her face while she waited for your reply.
xxx“Oh, Dustywing?” She replied, flicking her tail in the direction of a long-furred tom with a bobtail. He seemed to be asleep, breathing slowly as the sun beat down on his pelt, warming him. “He’s our newest Clanmate. He’s resting after a long day of hard work.” She motioned towards the walls of the camp that seemed to be in construction, made with gorse, brambles, and thorns. More than half of it was already completed, and it looked as if it was going well. “I’m sure you can see that it’s still a work in progress, but it’s only been a few days. He’s definitely doing his part, and I’m sure doing mine. He likes to relax when he’s done, though.
xxx“He was a loner before I met him. I found him sleeping in an abandoned fox den, and he seemed like he had just gotten there a day before. He woke up when I poked my head in and hissed at me, telling me to go away unless I would give him food. I just frowned and told him that if he needed food, he could hunt for himself. I just walked away, but I went back the next day to check up on him. He was nicer and asked how I was. I let him know that I was in a growing Clan that I led, and he seemed very interested. I told him that he could join, he just had to get his warrior name. I spent the whole day talking to him about Clan life, and then he became one of my Clanmates. Anyway, this is supposed to be about Dustywing’s personality and stuff.
xxx“He’s a very hard worker. And he’s really confident in himself. I like that- he doesn’t doubt everything he does or anything like that. He follows his gut and his mind and does what he thinks is right. I instructed him on how to weave the brambles, thorns and gorse together to build the Clan’s walls- and he figured out a better way to do it before the end of the first day. He’s very smart and knowledgeable. He is also not afraid to voice his opinion, though- but that’s not always bad. I’m glad that he tells me when he thinks something is wrong or a bit off. He’s very stubborn- again, not always bad. He sticks to what he thinks is right, and he does apologize if it turns out he’s wrong. The only real problem with him, though, is that if he doesn’t feel like doing something, he won’t do it. He’ll just ignore me and act like I’m not there. And that’s annoying, especially if I need to do something that takes two cats. But in all, he’s a really good Clanmate and I’m glad to have his company as well as his smarts. He is also very fast. He's nimble and can jump from tree to tree like a squirrel! Once we get some apprentices and kits, I'll definitely make sure to have him teach every cat how to climb trees like him.”
xxxWhen she finished speaking, she sighed and licked her paw once more. Her bright amber eyes shone with pride for her Clanmate. You thanked her for her time and walked out of the camp. [608 words]

A large long-furred she-cat with creamy white fur sat under the side of the announcement ledge at the mouth of the leader's den. You apologize to interrupt her cleaning, and motion to the spot you usually spot a large stump-tailed cat. The leader's warm, bright eyes glanced at the spot. "Ah, you want to know more about one of the first warriors we brought into the clan?"

You nod eagerly, and she beckons you to sit down next to her.

"Sheepnose, as I said, was one of the first cats we took into the clan after the plague that killed off the majority of our clan. I was the only one out of camp ; the deputy was taking a nice long moon-high nap. No way was I getting him to come with me. While I was out, I found him on the very, very edge of our territory. He was surprisingly open to the idea of trading his loner lifestyle for the honorable life of a warrior."

"He's adjusted pretty well to being in a clan. Well, except for the fact that he's a total drypaw. Every time he enters or leaves our cave, he totally freaks out and shakes his fur out! Every. Single. Time. I keep telling him it's just water, but he won't listen to me!" She shakes her head. "Other than that, he's got a lot of courage. Probably the most I've seen in any warrior yet. Maybe too much, considering I've saved his life thrice in two moons time. He's got a nose for danger, but I wish he wouldn't always follow it. Curiosity kills cats."

"But wasn't it curiosity that brought a certain loner to our clan?", a lithe tom remarked.

You both turn around to face the deputy, who was sitting behind you both with a smug look on his face. He's right, you think to yourself ; curiosity did find a fine warrior. Purring at the remark, you look left to see a long tail lashing. Obviously, the leader didn't find as much humor in it as you did.

The pause gives the proud feline a chance to add, "Oh, and wasn't it curiosity that led Rain to this cave? He could've ignored the weird dark spot he saw behind the waterfall."

Campionstar indignantly growls, "Don't you have patrols to arrange, Owletfur?" Once you two are alone again, the wise leader continues sharing what she knows.

"Sheep gets restless a lot. He always has to be doing something, whether it be patrolling the borders or hunting birds since his lack of patience and wandering mind makes it hard for him to sit still long enough to catch fish out of the river. If you make him sit in camp all day, he'll start talking your ears off because he's so bored of sitting and doing nothing."

You imagine a humorous image of Sheepnose rambling on and on about the state of the grackle population while the whole clan sticks their paws in their ears. You purr to yourself, and Campionstar lightly whacks you in the ear. "It's not funny, it really does drive me crazy."

"He is pretty helpful though. Always taking his fair share of duty. Whenever I ask him to do something, he usually goes above and beyond what I ask for. That can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what I ask him to do. Same in regards to the amount of honesty in him ; it can be good or bad, depends on what he's talking about."

She stands up and finishes, "I can't think of anything else we know about him so far, so I think that's all."

Owletfur snuck in again behind Campionstar's back.

"He's a tom."

The deputy left as quickly as he came.

"And he's a tom. Thank you very much, for pointing out the obvious Owlet." The young leader sighed as she sat back down for the moment. "Our deputy is apparently very concerned about his mating capabilities, and I think he might be trying to play matchmaker between us. Maybe it's because I turned down his offer." She glanced back over her shoulder. "I'm far too busy to consider mating, especially not to that bee-brain."

"Bee-brain?" a dejected tom's voice asked.

"Oh come on, I thought you were on patrol Sheepnose!"

"But you promised earlier that you'd come with me."

She scratched behind her ear. "I did?"

"Yeah! I've been pacing outside your den forever waiting!" Sheepnose yowled.

Campionstar stood up again mumbling something under her breath about forgetfulness and flicked her tail toward the camp entrance. Sheepnose's ears perked up and he pranced after her happily. You purr in amusement and lay down in the full moon's light filtering through the falls. You were supposed to be guarding the camp, but maybe a middle of the night nap is in order.
