what is your favorite urban legend/or cryptid, and why?: (true story!)
The legend of Ross hall on campus, as I've had some paranormal experiences in there. Rumors about campus say that the dilapidated building was once a tuberculosis ward and that it is haunted by patients.
A friend of mine and I snuck through a window and got inside . We kept hearing creaking on the stairs but kind of dismissed it as the old building settling. It was a little unnerving. We also found an entire bag full of CPR infants. The friend left one on the attic stairs as a joke.
We went back a week later and all the babies were gone.
This building has been locked and boarded for the past year...

what is your favorite urban legend/or cryptid, and why?: My favorite urban legend is about clowns. When I was younger I snuck out with a friend once, and at around two in the morning we heard an ice cream truck approaching us. Naturally in suburban Colorado that's an incredibly strange thing, and given the time it really doesn't make sense. I still can't explain it today. That prompted me to ask around, and a friend told me it was clowns; this prompted me to look further. As it turns out, there was a serial killer clown, Bobo I think he went by? He ended up with about thirty victims or so by the time he was arrested. This happening lead to clown sightings across the country. A fun fact about the original clown: he used triangular symbols in his makeup to express his distress. This was later analyzed after he'd been brought in.

what is your favorite urban legend/or cryptid, and why?: i've grown up which a bunch of urban legends haha, i think the one that always stuck me had to be la llorona, which translates to the 'the crier' in english. i think her story is a little TOO dark to share on detail on cs, but i encourage everyone to look it up if your a fan of darker stories! legends say you can still hear her wailing as she haunts the riverbanks on the rio grande, crying out for her children.

My favorite cryptid by far is the Loch Ness monster. I've always had a soft spot for the stories of it; there's something immensely fascinating in the concept of a lingering dinosaur, an undiscovered monster. I'm amazed by our limited understanding of the sea and of the minimal knowledge we have of the darkest depths. Anything could be down there. There are huge stretches of ocean, of distant lakes, of thin, deep reservoirs that we have never mapped. The Loch Ness monster could be in there somewhere, perhaps smaller than told, shyer than estimated. The last of it's kind or the matriarch of what few remain. There's a romantic glean to finding proof of them, to squinting at smudged fins in the water, at analyzing blurry photos. I like to believe in the unlikely.

what is your favorite urban legend/or cryptid, and why?: Hopefully the greek monster Arachne counts as a cryptid! I've always been the most interested in the mythological creature Arachne, who was never a greek god or anything of the sort; just a woman with a big ego who paid a terrible price. As I got older and a bit more perceptive to stories like this, I started to garner a whole lot more meaning behind the story between Athena and Arachne. The story made sense to me at first- obviously a snobby girl way too over her head thought she was the best and got the wake up call of her life- but one day I went back and looked at the story, and promptly decided to look just a little bit deeper. All I see now is a girl, while impudent, still decided to speak up against the Greek gods' faulty natures. Arachne's weaving compared to Athena's depicted the gods in their reality instead of over-glorifying them as Athena does. This particular lore behind Arachne honestly somewhat disheartens me. Even moreso because of the fact that having some less than pleasant views on a higher power is still subdued with vigor even now.

' the thing across the lake ' is my favorite urban legend! i find it to be simple but intriguing ! its about a cabin across a lake, among many other finished cabins. but this particular one was abandoned. people said that they just ran out of money, or no time to build it. a friend dared a boy to go over and see whats over there. because, he swore something was moving. there was this piercing sound as he trudged up the hill, that was enough for him to go back. what wouldve happened if he went over there? nobody knows *spooky ghost noises*

the urban legend that freaks me out the most is the one about the black-eyed kids! i just love that the concept that's been around for centuries - of a monster only able to enter when you invite it in - has been adapted to scare yet another generation of kids and teens.
i love reading stories about interactions people have had with these children! the fact that they're otherwise completely normal children who you wouldn't be scared of except for their eyes really puts me on edge, especially when i'm home alone and have to answer the door. who knows - it may look like your best friend, but if you invite them in, they might turn out to be something more... sinister.
black-eyed kids have also been seen by people driving at night, who pulled over to see if they needed help. i don't drive, but the idea of stopping to pick up a hitchhiker and 'inviting them in' is something i can imagine doing (you wouldn't drive past someone who needed help, would you?) and it scares me to think of those innocent-looking kids, who have less than innocent intentions.
back in the building! ish!
probably going to do a bit of an account clearout, but i'm mostly here to putter around and see what's changed

Berlin has always believed very strongly in the supernatural, so it’s needless to say that most of his favorite legends are all ghost and demon related. Of all the legends and stories he’s read however, “Ants in the Brain” has always taken the metaphorical cake in his book. Ever since he had first heard of the tale, he was enthralled, and horrified all the same. The tale of a boy who ate sweets in his bed, and subsequently had ants crawl into his head through his ears had a lasting impression on poor Berlin, and now he won’t bring food anywhere near his bed, and can’t sleep without plugging his ears with ear buds or cotton!
if you don't have good intentions,
please just leave me alone. i'm tired.

That's such a hard choice because I love cryptids so much??? I really like Mothman, because of so many things about him. But then there's also the Hidebehind, wendigo, and so many more. Urban legends have always fascinated me, but if I had to pick one out of all of them... Probably the Jersey devil. I know it's a common one, but it's just so interesting to read about the sightings of the Jersey devil, and hear the tales. iirc, theres this one where they found hoof prints in the snow on top of houses and their roofs. Some even went up the walls and its just really spooky :0 (110/200)
leaving. pm me if anythings important, i still get email notifs
