"Juniper."

A small girl shuffled up to the front quickly, a grin on her face. "Here! I'm right here!" she shouted, waving her hands ferociously in an attempt to make sure she didn't go unnoticed. The instructer scoffed, looking down at her with obvious distaste settled on her features. "You're Juniper? Juniper Berry? "Dream of Pro-Swimming" Juniper? Too small, you'll drown," the instructor spoke with a heavily Russian accent and a harsh voice. She flicked her wrist in an attempt to dismiss the child, but tiny Juniper would have none of it.

Little Juniper scrunched up her nose and pursed her lips at the older woman. "Yea, well you're too old to have any type of talent left!" she roared, clearly angered by the older woman's presumptious attitude. The woman rolled her eyes at Juniper, but there was a soft smile played on her lips. "What kind of a name is Juniper Berry anyways?"

"I don't know, guess my parents weren't creative. Take it up with them," Juniper lashed back at the instructor, obviously more than a bit annoyed with the Russian woman. The older woman had to stifle a laugh as Juniper stood, hands on hips, looking up at her with a challenging look. It was obvious the little girl had the determination and drive to work at swimming, despite her unimpressive stature. Whether she would get taller with age and make it in the sport, well, that would be told with time.

"You don't look like a Juniper. Tiny like a berry, but not nearly so sweet as one," the Russian voice came again, still critical. Again, Juniper scrunched up her nose at the woman, unphased by the words.

"Junipers are tart and sharp, look it up."

Two years later, Juniper won her first of many swimming medals.
