His one downfall is his insecurity and his inability to trust others. He refuses to fall for someone and will probably be alone forever because of it.

Irene has two goals: to make it through life without collapsing from stress, and not to let anyone realize just how much pressure he's under. Needless to say, this doesn't exactly make life a carousel ride. He's constantly worrying about what comes next: if he'll ever be able to get a job he likes, who'll stick around for him when he needs it, and in the end what he'll be known for. Between everything, he's constantly exhausted. Irene's life is a balancing act on the edge of a glass pit, and he's wobbling in the wind.

To put it mildly, Irene is the quiet friend. He'll laugh along with jokes and even pipe up with one of his own now and then, but it's just about impossible to really find out what he's thinking. It's even harder to figure out his intentions – every sentence is constructed with some goal in mind, and some days his friends feel more like means to an end than people he really enjoys spending time with. Those who really make an effort to know him find not a manipulative Kalon, but one permanently trying to get a foothold on life.

Irene is the creator of most of his problems, and it's only his fears and frustrations holding him back. Almost ironically, it's fear keeping him from truly realizing this. It's not his life he's really worried about, it's the idea of failure. If he'd just take a chance for once, Irene wouldn't have to fight tooth and nail for everything good in his life and could finally sit back and watch life unfold without wearing himself to the bone. Currently, however, he seems more inclined to stick to his usual method of micromanaging everything he values in life.
