Zevia Strolled into the small cafe, pulling up a beat up old, light blue bar stool seated in front of an older plumerian, wiping down the counters. She pulled out a menu, just for show, since she knew it by heart. The old man glanced up, seeing her, and began working on her usual, a root beer float with 4 cherries, and a small bowl of vanilla ice cream on the side. She swung her legs back and forth as they were almost long enough to reach the first rung on the bar stool. As she waited, she hummed along softly to the music playing, as the sound of laugher and small talk filled the air from the tables around her. The sweet smell of pie was in the air and the warmth for the busy oven in the back made this little place so cozy and welcoming. Zevia came here everyday after school, always getting the same thing, and root beer float with four cherries, no more no less, and a small bowl of vanilla ice cream. She loved it here, it was her favorite place to be, she had grew to love it, and made it a part of her life. The older man, came back with a warm smile on his face as he handed Zevia her order. "Here you go little miss, that will be 2.50$" he said kindly. She handed him the money, as he went back to waiting tables and cleaning counters. She delicately ate the cherries floating on top, one by one, as she tried to tie the cherry stems into a knot with her mouth. After being unsuccessful, she moved on to her iecream, devouring the small bowl of soft serve in under a minute, with only getting a minor brain freeze. Then saving the best for last she placed her red straw into the foamy goodness of her root beer float. It was like drinking liquid heaven, as the cod bubbles rushes down her throat, making her whole body tingle. The sweet syrupy flair mixed with the vanilla creating the perfect combo of perfection. She finished her drink, no problem, slurping as she tried to drink down every last drop, before she happily skipped out of the restraint thanking the man for the float.
Zevia's eyes flew open, her heart racing as she awoke for her slumber, finding herself in her bed once again. "It was only a dream" she said sighing, her childhood memories, coming back to tease her of the times gone by. That restraint, that piece of her life, was shut down, shortly after, when the owner died, and no one was left to care for the restaurant. A single war slid down her cheek as she pulled the covers back over her, returning to reality where her childhood memories where no longer.
Shoutout to Lost in Time, as well!
