French names in general do sound elegant to me and I like that. Another reason for me chosing the name is, because he reminded me of metal first, and after all, a battleship is made of metal and also shining. A bit random, but still fitting.

However the coolest coincidence in this name is that is is derived from the Hebrew word "maḇərīq" meaning "shiny and brilliant".

I chose this name because Candid really is both of the descriptions you can find in the dictionary for his name.
When I saw him, I though of a mentor of mine for my Robotics team, who was both extremely candid in their remarks and a popular subject for our candid photos of our building area, just like I plan on this boy being like! (the mentor's name also began with a C!)
This mentor really was the core of our team, and not only helped us succeed but also kept all of the members of my team from losing faith in each other. They really kept our team going at the worst time, and is one of my personal role models. Without them, I would never have the friends, confidence, or opportunities I have today! I could not be the person I am today without this mentor being so candid in the way he not only held himself, but also in his amazing support of all of the members of our team.
Unfortunately, that mentor had to leave do to a close member in their family getting cancer this past year, and our team missed him badly. Our entire team's best wishes go with him, and this boy just reminded me of my mentor so much that I couldn't help but try and keep my mentor in mind even here on CS.

Reasoning: I would name this boy Thylacine for couple of reasons. First off, I really love the way thylacine sounds (thigh-la-sign). Next off, the quipping on his rump reminds me of the extinct animal itself. Before they went extinct, Thylacine were quite rare for a while. I feel like this boy also has an uncommon coat, being shiny and male. The Thylacine was also known for its magnificent coat, another thing that the species and this boy definitely have in common.
