it's things that shine. things that stand out and look different from the rest. that's what appeals to her and that's how she chose her place to dwell. it's very simple, but to her it holds meaning. it's a cave, of course, because she needs the darkness to see the difference of the light. set in the side of a sloping hill in a spread open field, tucked away beneath the grass and the soil. in the distance are trees, but she rarely ventures that far. the meadow has all she desires. soft grass of a light green color, sometimes yellow-tinted and sometimes brown when it's very dry. the soft soil allows for much growth, and the kinds of plants are uncountable. flowers and shrubs and grasses and weeds and herbs and nearly everything that lives off sunlight and water but trees. when you look over the space it is colorful and lively, even during the nighttime.
a sliver makes the cave's opening, enough for the jellybean dragon to squeeze in and out. the crevice is made of rock, some of which is visible on the surface. granite, shale, some sort of supporting stone. it's a dull color, but that's fine with her--everything else is the brightness, the light. the stone extends down for a few yards, curving around and making a deep hollow, allowing incandesa a large space. about five yards long and three and a half wide, and tall enough for her to move around without brushing the ceiling. it's open and smooth and comforting to her. the air is cool and when the wind blows it gusts into the cave and dances around and makes a wondrous echo. the smell is musty and entirely cave-like unless the wind brings the scent of the meadows down. the floor is completely solid rock, but not flat. dips and bumps and roughness give it a natural feeling. it clicks beneath her claws, allowing her to hear herself and anyone else.
sometimes water leaks through, for the roof is less solid and had cracks where the soft soil bleeds through. she doesn't mind. it collects in some of the larger dips and gives her easy access to water. in winter it becomes more of a hindrance, but her fur is enough to keep her warm. she uses plant material as bedding too, so that helps. the walls of her cave are crooked and covered with niches and ledges. it's more of a less-natural look that she likes, because it's another aspect that sets her out. after all, she's not just some rabbit in a burrow. she's a dragon, and her way of life is a little more complicated and a little more interesting. upon the ledges she keeps things. odd stuff, curious objects that she's collected. interesting finds that she's long forgotten or bright new items that have grabbed her attention.
however, the most prominent of her collection would be the fireflies. they are the one part of nature she feels the most connected to. her cave is spun with them, generations upon generations of lightning bugs. because of the dampness, the water that will leak through, the insects survive in the crevices in her ceilings and walls. they create a pattern of lights. they stand out from the darkness, just as she wants to stand out from the normal. on the darkest of nights she'll be curled on her mossy bed and her eyes will follow the movements of her stars, her little wandering night-lights.
"It's my favorite place to be. The fireflies outside are nice, too, but when I'm in my cave at night all I can see is the light from them. It's the most comforting thing I can imagine."
