Name of Kia: Kuruk (Pawnee name meaning "Bear")
I chose the name Kuruk because of his coloration and build. He reminds me of a bear which, to the Native Americans, means strength, protection and a Fighting Spirit. Just like his ancestors, Kuruk continues to hold to the beliefs of his people. He lives up to his name as he guards hi people.
Gender: male
Kuruk is male. I see him as no other. He is the Chief guardian of his people. He is definitely male.
What symbol is painted on the other side?
2 extras:Personality: Kuruk is a typical teenager in the fact that he thinks he knows everything. Like his namesake, he is more of a loner and not a people person, but due to his role in life, he has learned to tolerate people. He can be a bit arrogant and loud, but deep inside, he has a good heart. He always keeps a promise, even if others don't believe he can and he protects the ones he loves. He is not afraid of anything and is a strong warrior.
Story of the Spirit Bear: "You're late Kuruk." I winced as the elder Chief (and my father) spoke those words as I silently took my place among the council. "Sorry father. I will make sure it never happens again." I said almost sarcasticly as I rolled my eyes, and with a glare from my father my ears slightly drooped. " This ceremony is vital in your journey to becoming a Spirit Warrior My Son. Do not take it lightly." The Chief warned as he gave me a stern look. I nodded and sat still as the ceremony began.
"Tonight, we celebrate the coming of the Great Bear. On this very night, when our ancestors roamed this earth there were massive, evil spirits. These spirits would ravage our villages and kill our people. They demanded a sacrifice of the Chief's son when he turned 15, the age of a Warrior. The Chief's wife pleaded with her husband not to take their only son to be a sacrifice to the evil spirits. They both wept for days for they knew that in a week their son would be of the age of a Warrior.
One night, before her son's 15th birthday, the Chief's wife ran into the forest, weeping and praying. Not long after she sat down on a fallen log, she heard a deep, kind voice ask her," Why do you cry child? What has happened to make you weep so?" She turned to see a large grizzly bear standing not too far away. He wa the one who had spoken. Startled she quickly jumped to we feet, but seeing only true kindness in the bears eyes, she sat down by him and hugged his neck, crying into his pelt. "Oh kind Grizzly, the evil spirits are to take my only son an kill him tomorrow. I cannot bare to lose him." She said .
" I will help you. Go back to your family and tell them nothing. I will save your son, do not worry." The bear told her.
The next morning, the Chief and his family rose early and sadly went to where the spirit met them. The mother cried, for she did not see the bear who said he would help. As the evil spirit reache for their son, a massive grizzly bear rose to its full height and let loose a terrifying roar that shook the very earth. The evil spirit fled, never to be seen again, and the grizzly bear returned to the forest like a ghost.
Tonight, we celebrate the life the great bear saved and the promise that it gave us. Protection and truth. For the great bear held his promise and told the truth. And now you, Kuruk, must bear the mark of the Great Bear and tell this story for generations to come. For it is your history, my son." The chief said as he looked at me. I let out the breath I didn't know I had been holding and proudly receive the mark of the bear ad arrow, which I bear on my pelt.
