It is based on the name Kanoa, which means free.
I thought that sense birds are well, free to fly, he should have a name that has to do with free.
s h o r t s t o r y :

The winter wind whistled through the damp trees. It was yet another cold, rainy day. Kano sat silently in the grass, soaked, but excited. He was looking at a small nest protected by a tall, green tree. A mother bird sat there, warming her eggs. He had always loved birds. Suddenly, the mother bird started to chirp a beautiful song. Kano smiled.
Finally, a nice thing to enjoy on this wet day.

Any suggestions for new jbd designs? The idea of using birds like this really makes me happy. There's so many stunningly beautiful designs out there that no one really even realizes. My favourites would have to be hummingbirds. The magnificent hummingbird, for example. Also, the white-eared hummingbird. <3 This site has a lot of really neat species, and I think they'd all look amazing as Bean designs. c:

Scout glanced out the window and gasped.Soft blinding snow was twirling and falling onto the ground out side.He jumped up, ready to bounce around in the snowfall but then his small paw nudged his math homework that he was trying to finish.Scout groaned.He hated being stuck inside.A thought fluttered into his mind. Carefully he looked around for Inky.Then he remebered she was visiting a friend and would be back soon.With a smile on his little face he crept outside and went to find Alek.....

name: トロピカル or Toropikaru.
'Toropikaru' is the Japanese word for 'tropical'. He is named after the word because he resembles the Green Jay which is a bird that inhabits only tropical climates. Of course, since he is young he has trouble saying his full name properly sometimes and goes by Toro or Karu.

short story: Detective Toro.
(Story starring: Toropikaru as 'Detective Toro', my own JBDs Akari as the 'assistant detective', Popcorn as the 'book-napper' and Shasta as the 'lady of the kitchen'')

It was a beautiful sunny morning on my books disappearance.

A gentle breeze blowin' in from the north, a shady tree providing comfort in the heat. I was lying on my hammock reading intently when I had a sudden craving for some juice. Leaving my book face down on the hammock, I happily padded into the kitchen. The lady of the kitchen handed me an apple juice box with a smile. Grabbing some cookies from the jar when she was turned around I then headed back to my book on the hammock. When I returned, my book was gone!

It was time; for Detective Toro to find who book-napped my book.

Rounding up my detective hat, note pad and pen, and assistant; Detective Akari, we started to search for clues. Holding my magnifying glass to the hammock I searched every inch of it's surface looking for a trace of evidence. The Detective Akari piped up from by the tree; "Detective Toro! I found some blue fur snagged on this tree." She informed me popping the fur into a little sandwich bag. Slipping on my sunglasses I announced, "Things, just got hairy."

"Now, assistant Directive Akari, we gotta find out who this blue fur be belongin' too. It ain't mine because it's a different colour, see?" I pointed out holding the evidence next to my cheek. Nodding, Detective Akari announced, "Nor is it mine, I don't have any blue fur. Let's go check, the lady of the kitchen."

So with our magnifying glasses in hand searching for other clues on the way and our evidence in hand we both worked our way to the kitchen. Once there. the lady of the kitchen was rolling some cookie dough. "Ma'am, we need to ask you a couple questions." I told her pulling up a stool. "Okay." She giggled also pulling up a stool. "Where were you when I was getting some juice?" I demanded as Detective Akari took notes. "I was here, I gave it to you Toropikaru." She smiled at our antics. "That's Detective Toro to you ma'am. And yes. So, do you think you could identify this fur sample we found at the scene of the crime; my book's kidnapping." I had Detective Akari show her the fur. "Now, that looks like it belongs to... Yes! Popcorn. I saw him pass here with a green book about birds a few moments ago." The lady of the kitchen informed us.

"Looks like we have our book-napper Detective Akari!" I exclaimed. "Let's catch him." I said barreling down the hallway to find the culprit with Detective Akari in tow. "There he is!" Detective Akari cried spotted him. I jumped on top of the reading dragon. "You are under arrest for the book-napping of my book!" I yelled snatching it back from Popcorn.

Detective Akari held me down while I questioned him. "I meant to put it back squirt. I just got absorbed in it, that is a very interesting book you have there." He chuckled brushing Detective Akari off. "Well, you are free to go as no charges will be pressed for the safe return of the book." I said.

"This case, is officially closed." I nodded clutching my book close to my chest.
"Yes sir." Detective Akari agreed.

  suggestions for new JBD designs: Some more of these wonderful animal based JBDs would be awesome. Maybe: an okapi based one, a zonkey based one, a rosetted bengal cat or panther chameleon based JBD. Perhaps a bleu jay based one or snow leopard design.

Halcyon, Hal for short, named after a type of bird thought to "calm the sea"

short story under 800 words:

It is a calm day, the water barely stirring in the slight balmy breeze that ruffled the fur of the small creature that lay upon a grey-and-green rock, staring off into the endless ocean. But for that, he might have seemed like a brightly painted statue he sat so still, until he flicked an ear or twitched his tail. The world here was so quiet, so calm, it turned you inward to reflect upon yourself. And so Hal sat, away from the fast-paced turbulence of the world.
He knew people worried about how lonely and quiet he was, whispered behind his back that he was slow and stupid, and wondered if everything was quite right "up there." Some, Hal knew, were scared of him, his quietude, his acceptance, and his unwillingness to react to the insults, and occasionally punches, they thew. Adults saw his wide, blank eyes, and they gave him to psychiatrists, if only to make him stop watching them, taking in everything about them and trying to make out the world. Nobody understood Hal.
But, to be honest, he didn't care. The sea understood him because nobody understood it, and Hal was content to sit here, on this rock, until he had realized his purpose, which he was sure he would, some day. But for now, he was happy here, in this tranquility by the sea.

Short Story
I look around the city, sun washed walls across the street. "It better be good, this time." I say to myself as I start shaking the first can of spray paint. First the base. I progressively spray the large wall in front of my eyes. The sun glares as I paint my mind out. I take a few paces back to look. "More blue. Great. Just great." I sigh, staring at my watch. I squint my ice blue eyes at the watch, soft breezes tugging at my fur. The cold metal calls, as I push the top. "Well, the blue wont get itself." I sigh, trudging to the mound of leaves. I stick my hand
in, pulling out a slightly vegetized can of blue paint.
I ponder, thinking of what to add more.the clouds start to cover the golden sun, sending a shiver down my spine. I'm done, for now.
