My life is something very few people, if any at all, get to live; as a child I was more than less a street rat in the large city of Alabaster, but that was ok, because I had a parents, we were a family; until the day they were taken away... It was a quiet night in our little house, located along the eastern wing of the city, surrounded by so many similar homes of people with the same status as us, but we were a community in our own, (or so we liked to believe), we were never disturbed by the memory scarring white guards; but even as we were all sound asleep, they came. Our door was shattered to splinters as they all began filing in one by one, all in perfect unison not a step out of place; three of them pulled mum and dad out of their rooms while two dragged me out of mine, pulling us into the circle of white bodies with no escape in sight; all of them had masks of haunting demeanor, but the one that stepped forward had a mask like none of the others. He spoke, loud and clear, but his voice sounded more machine than man, "You are in violation of the Exl. Rune Bearing law, it is treason and the punishment is death to the bearer and rune;" he paused, "Bearer come forward with your rune." None of us moved, because none of us were guilty, (and honestly, who wants to die for something they didn't do); it was because of our silence and immobility, that finally the leader just grabbed me and just as I thought the gun was about to blow my face to bits, my father tackled me to the ground, the shot firing and hitting a guard behind him. My mom and dad formed a protective barrier around me, but when the guards recuperated, two clear shots broke out, silence filling the void they left; that moment, when the lifeless bodies of my parents hit the floor, would never be long enough; I screamed and tried to get to them, but before I could, a white glove grabbed me, and took me away forever...
Interlude
The next five years of my life were a complete and utter hell consisting of: Brainwash, Starvation, Training, and oh yes, Brainwash. That was the schedule of my every time of day, morning, afternoon, evening, and night. I finally got smart and pretended to be overly brainwashed and was able to either lie or snatch my way to more food; all of that trouble just to survive. Escape was the only thought I pondered over in that wretched place, other than that of my life before that horrid night, even though I truly knew my life would never, ever be the same as it was, because I would always be missing a vital part of me; family.
September 17 - 5 Years Later...
I kept a good pace as our whole team ran, staying in the middle group so not to gain too much attention in either front or back group; the team I have been in is nothing like the white guards, it was in a sense better, we were the quiet but deadly "for hire assassins" as our joker of a lieutenant liked to call us. Foliage lay trampled across the dense forest floor, for the most part the destruction was at the hands of the large Rune we were chasing, though we did hold some of the blame as well; our Captain hadn't really give us much intel on the Dragon, which had me on extra edge seeing as he usually covered the beast's bio's from lineage to number of feathers. It was only moments before we heard the familiar firing of our guns up ahead, we picked up our pace and on the last corner we finally tread into the beat's lair, thrown immediately into battle; I ducked and rolled, firing a couple of blasts, and it was then I realized the true reason behind the hidden information. Surrounding the Rune were between three and five spectral hands, it was hard to tell exactly because of the speed they were moving, picking off each and every man on our team; to make things so much better, not, a second even larger Rune came behind the first, with it's own group of ghastly hands. My team was reduced from nineteen to seven men within moments, but those who were left were the toughest, (I myself quite unsure as to how I was still alive), and they were slowly weakening the Dragons; the smaller one lashed out with on of its hands and hit me in its swing, knocking me sideways, almost halfway behind them. I slowly got up
