Story-

The cold would have nipped their fur if they hadn’t been bundled up. The night was dark and cold, very unusual for the 1st day of October. The swings creaked as the two JBDs swayed their legs back and forth slightly. The small playground that was nestled deep in the woods had been their meeting place ever since they found it when they were just three years old. Rio, the dark JBD, looked at Brooke, a light gray JBD whose fur matched her personality. Full of light and life.
“Brooke, I need to tell you something,” Rio said sheepishly, casting his eyes down at the mulched ground.
“What?” Brooke questioned in response, casting a side-long glance at Rio.
“I..I love you,” Rio replied, his voice barely above a whisper. But Brooke still heard it, no matter how quiet it was. The only sound in the air was the hollowed wind blowing the tree’s leaves about. Rio frowned in discontent, but continued on. “Ever since I met you when we were three years old, I knew it. I knew you were the most beautiful person I had ever seen. I knew later in life, you make my day full of light whenever you walked in the room, and you would eventually make my world go ‘round!” Rio exclaimed, his voice getting stronger as he went along. No matter how scared he was about saying those words, it didn’t seem so. “Without you, my life wouldn’t be complete,”
Brooke looked at Rio. Even in the dark, the light in her eye that always remained still sparkled. Rio could feel a smile break across his face as he took Brooke’s paw in his own.
“I can’t say anymore but those three words…I love you….I love you,” Rio still smiled, even though his heart was breaking seeing that Brooke wasn’t responded.
Brooke’s mind only focused on those three words too. He loves me too. He loves me too. Even though she could think it, her tongue felt thick in her mouth as she tried to form something to say in response. It seemed impossible for her to say the words back. She wished she could, but she couldn’t. She was too nervous that he would take it back.
Rio frowned once again. “Even if you don’t love me as much as I love you, I will always love you,” He said, before standing up and kissing her gently on the cheek.
Brooke closed her eyes, trying to remember the feel of his lips on her cheek forever. She tried to remember how it felt to be loved forever more. What it felt like to know that someone loved you back. When she opened her eyes, she saw that Rio was walking away on the worn in pathway. Brooke jumped off her swing and began to run after him but soon, she realized it was a lost cause. Instead she yelled to the sky.
“I love you too!”

“ Geo...” A soft feminine voice whispered through the warm breeze. “ Hello Xena.” A male replied, bits of his Italian accent showing. “ You’re here...” Xena said in awe as she ran up to the male and nuzzled him. Their embrace was short-lived as the female pulled away.

Xena silently padded towards the spot where Geo and her had met long ago. “ There’s another eclipse...” She whispered under her breath, without turning to Geo. “ Mhm.” Geo replied plainly, turning his gaze towards the sun which was going to disappear in a few moments. “ Then... We’ll have to leave each other again.” Xena murmured, not wanting to believe it. She leaned her head onto Geo’s red marked shoulder as she let out a sorrowful sigh. “ Well...” The dark-furred male trailed off as quiet whimpers were heard from Xena.

Xena’s whimpers were interrupted as Geo nudged her. “Everything will be alright.” He said as he brought her to another embrace. Several moments were spent in the peaceful silence as the moon completely blocked the sun. “ You see those clusters of stars?” Geo said with his Italian accent, breaking the silence. He pointed to a large group of shimmering stars in the midst of a pitch black sky. Where only the moon’s light shone in the night. “ Those are the seven sisters. And that’s orion’s belt. And there’s the big dipper.” Tightening his hug on Xena while pointing to every constellation he knew. “ Right there...” Geo paused as he turned to Xena, gazing into her gorgeous red eyes. The female did the same, turning to meet Geo’s luscious blue eyes. There wasn’t that usualspark in his eyes though. “ Right there... Is the constellation Lyra.” He continued on, turning back to the black sky. “ In Lyra, there is that star right there. Called Vega.” Geo said, pointing to a very bright star. “ That’s my mother’s star. She’s there. Watching over us.”

“ Wait... What...? Geo, your mother is...” Xena stared at Geo with tears forming in her red eyes. “ She disappeared when I was young...” Geo replied as he hugged Xena with misty eyes. “ How are you able to be so happy all the time...?” The female whimpered, crying into the warm dark fur of Geo. “ Because life moves on, and got to move with it. I know my mother is in a better place, I know she's looking out for me.” He replied. “ Looking out for us.” Geo added. “ Xena. I don’t tell that... To just anyone. Only to people I trust... And love.”

" Xena, I would like to propose to you. You and I, bonded as mates.”

“ G-Geo...”

“ Ti amo”

Story-

"And one, the opposite of the other shall be." The male's voice rang out as he looked down upon the bundle, seeing two perfect balls, one black, the other silver. Their mother's, Jaden's mate, body lay lifeless, fallen to a terrible illness. Their uncle, Dysemene, upon hearing the news had stolen into the night with dark intentions, claiming the dark male child, Altair. After absconding with him, Jaden was left with the silver female, Vega.

Both were raised in isolation, Jaden enraged with his brother-in-law, but with little power to change the course of fate. Soon Dysemene grew old, leaving Altair only 14 but able to fend for himself. He ran into the night, intent on finding his father and his twin sister.

It was in the moonlight that the two found each other, Vega having left Jaden to search for her brother. They immediately recognized each other, running into each other's arms. Though the two had grown apart physically, they were one in the same. Without the other, neither was complete.

"Oh Vega, I've missed you so," Altar said softly, gently licking the cheek of his dear sister. She smiled, nuzzling her face into his neckfur. But just as fate had separated them now, it would separate them once more. Jaden, having caught up to his daughter, was enraged that his son was back. Thinking his son had been swayed to Dysemene's treacherous ways he cast him back out.
It was only every seven days that Vega could sneak out to be with her brother. Every seventh day she would find him under the stars, and lie with him. These nights were filled with bliss, and soon the two took to watching the constellations, two of which near each other, only to be pulled away.

”We were named for the stars,” she told him, standing above him as he gazed to the heavens. ”See those two? The ones we have been following? They are called Altair and Vega, just as we are.” Altair, who had always been silent, watched her with a small smile. ”They only meet every seven years,” she continued, smiling all the while.

”Are we destined too, to only see each other when the constellations meet?” Altair asked grimly, his face severe. The thought was abhorrent. Vega left soon after, leaving her brother to mull over their time.

She returned four days later, all of her possessions tucked into her pouch, having left their father.

”Only we can change our destiny.”

Congrats Hekomi and Bern! The story was amazing and I hope that you will write more! There were a few places where I wanted to see more elaboration/detail, but that was only because I made the word limit tiny. xD So that's my fault. But anyway, amazing!

The art was delicious too, the detail and the grass effects were really awesome, it pulled you into the picture. I felt like they were really there.

A CLOSE second was Akailla and Yağmur. The art was outstanding and the story was beautifully written. I hope to see you two again in future contests. :>

Thank you EVERYONE for being so patient with me and my judging habits! I spent all of tonight judging and hopefully will now have time for some other art and such. 8D
