What game does your kalon suggest, and how do they win?
"So, you've never played Dungeons and Dragons?"
The casino workers shook their heads 'no', Spider smirking and blinking his many eyes at Caleb. "It'll probably be easy enough, right? We like taking risks, and this is just another one to challenge," the multi-eyed kalon chuckled, leaning over the counter. "If you win, you get the key you're after for that Shark character. If we win, you leave us alone. Fair deal, correct?"
Caleb narrowed his eyes, a light smirk playing across his face. "Fair deal. I'll give you the info you need, and I'll be back in a few hours. Then we begin our wager."
"Fine by us," Rook replied. "We'll see you then."
"See you then."
"Alright, since this is a one-time thing, you guys didn't have to put much thought into it. Can you tell me your character classes, names, and race?" Caleb shuffled some papers behind the folders that served to screen him from the players, sorting out an item or two and pulling out a set of dice.
"Arachni, tiefling sorcerer," Spider replied with a smirk, leaning backwards in his chair.
"Alright." Caleb pulled out two more sets of dice and handed them over. "If you lose, break, or steal those, you're paying for a new set."
"I chose a half-elf rogue named Robin."
Caleb paused for a moment, raising an eyebrow before straightening the papers. "Alright. Welcome to your first session of Dungeons and Dragons. We start in a homey pub, worn, yet strong oak timbers supporting the walls and ceiling..."
"That's... a one."
"How many hit points do you have?"
".... Five."
"Robin, you watch as Arachni goes down, the spell taking effect and knocking them unconscious."
"You take six damage from the crossbow bolt as the bandit shoots you, aim hitting true."
"Are we both down?!"
"It seems you are... your vision goes dark as your body tumbles to the ground. The last thing you see is Arachni's body before you succumb to the void."
"Damn!"
"And with that, I win the deal," Caleb chuckled, stretching as much as he could within his chair. "If you could be so kind as to hand over the key?"
"The wha- oh." Spider stretched as well before reaching into a pocket and dropping the key within Caleb's reach. "Congrats, you beat us at the wager. No small feat."
"Good game. Very different from a traditional one, but luck is as involved as it is in the slot machine. You may have introduced something new."
"Glad to be of service," Caleb replied, pulling his things together. "I'll be off now. Shark's probably beyond annoyed I took so long. Good evening to you two." And with that, he left the casino area, arms heavy with items but a smirk on his face. [463]
