He hung out with the wrong crowd because he believed that he could help them and guide them into a better lifestyle, but it nearly always ended up in himself being manipulated and used. Despite this, he still kept a sweet demeanor and an upbeat, optimistic outlook on life. Everything else in Henry's life was, of course, fairly normal.
Normal, that is, until a new Kalon, named Emmett, joined their crowd. He was a young, spunky creature who seemed to think only of himself and nothing more. He knew what he wanted and how to get it, and he wasn't above bullying the other kids in the group around. There was something odd about him, however, almost glowing, and as much as Henry spent time with him, there was nothing he learned about it. In all other ways, this new Kalon was just a mean kid. Nothing more. The new Kalon, as snarky as he was, never revealed anything about himself anyhow. It was only during a late night walk home, with only Emmett and Henry, that Henry realized just how abnormal his life was going to get... and that he was in the presence of someone who possessed magic ability.
They had been walking, quietly, when Henry began to notice his newest friend getting more and more antsy and aggressive. Emmett had picked up his pace despite Henry being unable to keep up as well, and had begun grumbling and kicking rocks whenever the slower Kalon fell behind. Henry knew to stay quiet and not mention anything, however, and tried walking faster and a bit to the side - just out of reach if Emmett decided to swing. Emmett paused at a small family-owned shop, all closed up and locked for the night, and his grumbling soon turned to a mischievous grin, "Hey Henry, we should break in! Take a few things... It's one of those tiny shops no one ever comes to, so who would notice?" Henry frowned at the plan and shook his head, disagreeing with it in full. It was true that he hung out with bad crowds, but they had never tried to push him into something
this petty and illegal! The worst he had done in the group was spray paint a few things! Henry had always hung back when the group went to do something worse, and although they teased him for it, they never pressured him. He gave a gulp, however, as his companion stepped forward, closing the gap between the two, "What do you mean, no?" he growled, standing to his full height. Emmett was much taller than Henry, "You're the only one out of the group that doesn't get noticed! You're so plain, and quiet, and boring, so no one ever suspects you! If we're going to do it, you're the one who would get away with it!" he snapped, sharp teeth causing Henry to shudder. Henry flinched back, watching as Emmett turned up their nose and muttered something under their breath. It was something quiet and whispy, and the glow Henry had noticed in Emmett before seemed to seep out of their eyes. Soon, Henry found his bones cracking loudly and his fur changing. With his mind spinning, Henry fell to the sidewalk with a
crash. When the painful transformation was completed and the world ceased it's spinning, Henry paused. He felt... larger? Stumbling to get up again, Henry was soon gazing down at his new paws. What... what was he..? He looked up at Emmett, who was now grinning, "Ya snooze, ya lose," he chirped, bringing his face down to be on eye level with Henry, "Now I've made it so you'll always be noticed! You won't be able to slip in and out of groups anymore, and I made it so that you gloriously fit night or day. You'll be wonderfully noticeable in both," he chuckled, turning away from Henry, "Smell ya later, enjoy the new blessing!" he laughed, running off into the night. Now alone, Henry took a moment to survey all the changes. Wings... That was the biggest one. He stretched each out one at a time, shaking the long hair out of his face to better see them. Giving a gulp, he sat down again. Boy, would this be hard to explain to his parents...
At first, the transformation was a bit of a curse. Henry found it harder to move around with such a bulky build, and he found that his sweaters did not fit as well with his large wings. Being noticed, however... that was the toughest part for him. Henry always liked to blend into crowds, but now - well, now he couldn't! His friend group kicked him out due to initial shock and how "uncool" Henry's new form was, and although Henry was saddened, he figured it would be better in the long run. As time continued, however, Henry found more and more positives to what was supposed to be a curse. Henry first became more confident in himself, the attention he gained from being so wildly different from others slowly easing him out of his shell. He learned to embrace his new looks and his old personality, becoming happier with himself than he ever had been before, and he became much, much happier after being shoved aside by his old "friends". Although the shifting from night to day form was still a bit painful, Henry soon found that both forms had their perks. After all, he would match any setting at this point, and his new eyes enabled him to see much better than he ever had in night
or day! That was less cosmetic work, at least, to look nice! Although the wings had once been such a large issue, Henry soon found that flying (even just the tiny bit he did) was rather enjoyable. It gave him a new perspective of the world, as his whole transformation had, and encouraged him to open up a bit more. Now, what was once made to be a curse had become a blessing, and Henry was much happier than he had ever been.
