Name: Apollo

Personality:

Apollo is the hero of the story that is often confused with the villain. His sneaky nature, hiding things from others, and bending the truth contributes to this. However, Apollo is actually a very quite brave and heroic. He doesn’t think twice about risking his life to save a friend, and would gladly lay his life down to. Of course, as long as that friend is a fellow Gryphon.
If he sees a Saber, instinct will drive him to kill it on sight. Unlike most, he will not think up a strategy before attacking, but because the instinct edged into his memory to kill is so strong, he will attack without a plan and without mercy. This strong instinct sometimes also drives him to attack other things, even if not Sabers, unprovoked. He is a ticking firebomb ready to explode at any moment, even without interference.

Attacks:

Inflammable – This attack allows Apollo to blow up things by means of fire. It must be within 10 meters of him, or otherwise, the attack will prove unsuccessful. It would be like mentally setting up a bomb then having the capability of blowing it up on command.

The attack has a lot of upsides. It is unique, and because you need nothing more than a bit of concentration to set it up within seconds, and that the force that comes from the bomb in considerably great, it causes a large impact on the enemies health.

Sadly, with Pros, come the Cons. Because it has a great exploding force, Apollo must be attentive and be capable of withholding any impact he might receive from the attack. He can’t be anywhere farther than 10 meters of the bomb, and so runs the risk of also being harmed. It also takes a bit of energy out of him, but not a large amount.

Black Fire – A dark flame that he can use on any part of his body. Meaning he can set any part of his body on fire with this flame, but never get burned, meaning he’s immune to its effects. If someone else where to come in contact with Black Fire, even if just a brief touch, they would be largely affected. It’s like having a small flame set you upon fire. Pretty no?

Black Fire is, like Inflammable, quite effective. It sets anything or anyone that is touched by its tongues on fire. This causes panic to the one of fire, unlike Apollo, who is used to the flames and has complete control of them. However, the actual impact is not as harsh, only affecting the opponent with little burns here and there. The real damage happens mentally, where the opponent believes he is being consumed by flames and practically goes mad.

The cons of this are however, that he must have complete concentration while attacking. A minor misjudgment of how to control the flames can have the flames turn on him, and though the effects wouldn’t be so widespread with him, it could change the tables in a battle. This is why he doesn’t like to be disturbed during practicing his concentration. After all, Black Flames is one of the attacks he relies on quite heavily because the little amount of energy that it takes for him to use the attack.

Fire Crackers – Fire crackers is a weaker attack, though makes up for it because the energy that it takes for this attack barely affects Apollo. Fire Crackers is a Physical attack, which allows specks of fire to mess with the opponent’s visual senses with its brightness. Not much else to it though.

Special Ability:

Research -
Apollo can look into the very depths of your thought, and with some will power, easily destroy the thought. This allows him to confuse the opponent, though the thought returns to them after a while, so he must act quickly.

Story:
It’s all Games
“Ha-ha! Can’t catch me!” I laughed, rising my proud head high. By gray feathers made an impression, making my fiery orange-red eyes seem the more threatening. My voice had gotten deeper since I graduated from being a Rookie. My feathers where the more glorious, and my wings, which were already naturally large, had grown as well and I could fly twice as fast and cover twice as much ground as before.

“Fool. You’re supposed to be doing your job, not playing around. It’s all games until someone gets hurt.” Trek, my best friend said, rolling his eyes at my trouble-making ways. He was the responsible one, always making sure neither of us got hurt. He was my best friend after all, it was pretty much his job.

“Oh please, Trek, we’re fire elementals! The humans will be glad we toasted some Sabers up for them!” I said happily, bravely walking on through the thick thicket of the forests. We had been created by the humans to destroy these ‘ Sabers ‘ though we’ve only seen them once or twice, where they had been left alive for the purpose of helping us Gryphons learn their smell and be able to track them down, we were determined to eliminate all of them from existence.

It was encoded within us to instinctively kill any of them on sight, and that we’d be punished if not. The humans rarely ever hurt or killed any of us though; there was one incident where they did something to this Owl-Gryphon and her brother, but that’s prohibited to talk of now. The Gryphon was clearly blood-thirsty and killed one of the humans, so we other Gryphons let it pass a one-time incident.

I could hear Trek panting after me. He was a scholar, not a hunter or fighter. But his knowledge proved well out here, for 3 times in the past hour he has saved my life. It’s not my fault I get the random urge to eat brightly color plants. He says it’s unnatural and that I’m a bit screw up in the brain. I don’t blame him, sometimes I agree.

Did it take me by surprise when my eyes landed on a Saber?

Maybe. Just a little, and how could you tell? Well I was racing off towards it, a screech escaping my beak the moment I saw the opportunity. That’s a pretty tell-tale sign that I wasn’t surprised, but excited. I was surprised when the Saber turned around, dodging my attack, and went on a straight-on attack towards my friend.

Like mentioned before, Trek isn’t the warrior. He wasn’t trained like me or the other Fire-Elemental Gryphons. He was created for intelligence, to design the strategy for those that would be attacking, for without a good strategy, strength was proved useless. That’s why the humans created him and his parents, and his ancestors in general. They had an IQ higher than any of us, but were also weaker than any of us. And without strength, intelligence is also proven useless.

I watched in horror as the Saber killed my friend, violently tearing at him. I couldn’t do anything; I just stood frozen there as the grass was covered in crimson. You know how the deer run away when the wolf tears at the deer that is lying dad on the grass, the goner? Then there’s always that one deer that stays, looking horrified as their friend is killed. Well, I’m that lucky last deer that ends up also turned into dog-food. Well, in this case, cat- food.


I shook my head, a letting out a mighty screech, flapped my wings and, spreading them nicely, took into the air. It was quite hard if you asked me, since the forest’s trees surrounding me didn’t allow me much space, but I managed. I narrowed my eyes at the Saber, who for a moment, looked horror stricken, his pupil’s becoming smaller, realizing it was about to die.

“Then the hunter becomes the hunted!”

I screeched, and suddenly, my beak, my paws, my ears, and the end of my tail, where set afire by wild tongues of black flames, seeming to consume me. But no, they didn’t. Instead, they gave me power, and courage, and then suddenly, the urge to tear apart the saber that lay in front of me. So I did.

My wings took position, and I lunged myself at the Saber, who let out a painful cry. My beak tore into his stomach, which was easily accessed, and my eyes where filled with the terror and bloodlust of the hunt. The power, the flames, the kill, they all transformed me into a kind of beast… But it did the job, like the humans had programmed me too. I killed the saber, mercilessly, without any regrets afterward.

No regrets, of course, accept that if I had killed him sooner, my best friend wouldn’t have died. But instinct overcame me. The dead where dead and there was nothing I could do about it. So with one last mournful cry that seemed to tear at the very heavens themselves, I turned around, and took the clouds, my large wings allowing me to travel at a quick velocity.

They welcome me back like a hero, the humans I mean. For I had led them right to the carcass of the Saber, and they buried and everyone mourned for the loss of a great Gryphon that day as well. The Humans less than Gryphons, but no matter. I was given a high position, and regarded highly for my unusually early development. The Humans granted me armor earlier than most as well, and my living conditions because better afterward.

Though I’m still quite young, I’ve made countless Saber kills, which keeps my reputation alive. I don’t do it for the glory though, for there is no honor in taking lives, but for revenge of the great friend I lost that day.

For that day was the day where the hunter became the hunted.

So Bleh? I think it's great.... I wish I could write as well as you.... I had a brain injury during the summer and lost a lot of my english and language skills.... It doesn't help I had signed up for an honors english class before hand, and now I have a B+ in that class.... I always feel stupid in anything to do with writing....
