The kingdom of Neldth was once a proud place, made of cobblestone and stained glass windows showing impressive feats of magic. Tapestry of the royal crest flapped gently within the wind as kit’s laughed and ran down the street; as flowers littered walkways, and as a kalon was busy painting fireworks in all manner of colours.
A Kingdom of discovery, lit brightly at night by tiny lights that danced in streetlamps, and outside the walls was a dense forest where many found their lifes focus.
The royal family were considered children of the arcane and the home to all manner of discoveries, housed within the castle at the center of Neldth and open to anyone who wished to learn, the perfect place to shoot into the sky and reach for the stars, with every opportunity one could imagine to succeed.
And as the image faded from the mirror, it revealed a dishevelled kit, and a room filled with anything that might save the kingdom, to make their efforts actually mean something.
The issues started simple: fauna in places it didn't belong, then it became dying flora, then more and more things piled up until the kingdom became a shell of its former self, and its ruler - Aurëa - was staring at someone they didn’t recognise anymore. Still, she spoke outloud, placing a hand on the surface of the mirror, “Mirror, Mirror on the wall, are you there to answer my call?”
Fog swirled in, a voice spoke, sounding like it came from the bottom of a lake, “As always, your majesty, are you here once more to witness the tragedy?”
It was certainly tempting, another chance to see what went wrong, or see happier times, to seek oblivion in the bliss that was once dancing down the streets and laughing with her parents.
But Instead, Aurëa shook her head, “No, I wish to see this: the last of my citizens, who don’t want to reminisce,”
The mirror took a moment but then the fog parted to reveal cobblestone streets that were cracked and uneven; the majority of the streetlamps broken, dull, the petals that once littered the streets were now nothing more than piles of ash.
Aurëa grimaced at the sight as it panned to the edge of the kingdom, where a singular Kalon adjusted their belongings, making sure that they had everything that they needed for the travels ahead.
“The rumour has already begun to spread,” The mirror spoke as the image faded, “A monster lives in the carcass of Neldth, filling the people with dread.”
Aurëa was quiet for a very long time, staring at the foggy mirror and recounting the plan in her head; spreading the rumour of a beast living in the Neldth, keeping people away and safe as she tried to undo the curse on the lands, no matter how long it took; even if it meant making the rumoured beast a reality.
Aurëa sighed heavily, staring at the crown on the floor, her crown, “Alright, good, we are free to do what we can, let’s bring this land back to man.”
