Briar and the Beast

~*~

~*~

Briar loves their family,
even if they are a little different from them.
They aren’t big and strong like their Father,
nor slim and sneaky like their mother.
They like how they are though, which is what matters.
~*~

While playing with their little siblings,
there was a tremendous roar.
They looked up to see a horrible beast,
charging for their home.
~*~

Their mother used great bursts of water,
While their father used huge blocks of earth.
But neither was able to turn the beast’s attention.
~*~

So thinking on their paws, Briar lept into action.
Keeping their siblings safely tucked in their tails.
They screamed as if terrified, one paw pointing.
“Mother, it'll anger the bees!”
~*~

And as if on cue out of the trees came a huge swarm.
It buzzed angrily around the beast, stinging all the while.
Startled, the Beast fled, bees following to the tree's edge.
~*~

Once the beast was gone,
Their Mother turned to them amused.
“We do not have a hive.” She commented
Briar merely giggled and herded their siblings home.
~*~

The next days were peaceful,
Though not returned to normal.
They rebuilt what was destroyed by the beast.
And found a new normal.
~*~

Then just as suddenly as before,
The beast came crashing in.
Once again angry,
and charging for their home.
~*~

Their father tossed great stones,
While their mother sent rushing water.
But the beast was once again not repelled.
Getting closer to their home this time.
~*~

Briar bound to crouch over their siblings.
Mind twirling with plans before they again shouted.
“Father be careful the Magpies live there!”
As their father ripped a rock from under a tree.
~*~

From that tree burst a family of angry Magpies.
Who crowed and screeched, beating wings for the Beast.
As they pecked and clawed, the Beast turned and swiped.
Eventually fleeing back into the Forest.
~*~

Their Father turned to them startled,
“When did the Magpies move in?”
He questioned not understanding.
“It was a trick” Briar snickered, Magpies vanishing.
~*~

In the days that followed,
Briar helped rebuild their home.
Their siblings running around
laughing at the tricks Briar pulled.
~*~

However, there was an underlying nervousness,
Would the Beast show up again?
Come once more to ruin their home?
~*~

They were right to worry,
Because just as they feared
the Beast came again.
It teared angrily out of the forest,
angrier than before.
~*~

Again Briar’s parents tried to use the Earth and Water
to repel the beast away from their home.
But it seemed even less deterred than before.
Angril
y roaring as it tore towards their home.

Angril
~*~

Briar’s younger siblings came running,
Giggling as they scampered.
Thinking they were clever they called to Briar
“The Hounds! The Hounds!”
~*~

Briar catching on caused some Hounds to come running.
Braying and Barking and charging for the Beast.
Nipping and Yipping they tried to scare it.
~*~

But this time the Beast was not fooled,
The children giggling too much to ignore.
And with a great swipe it scattered the illusion of Hounds.
Turning its attention to the kits.
~*~

Mother yelled, sending the greatest waves she could muster.
Father snarled charge towards the beast,
tearing up the Earth with his great paws.
Both were batted away without a thought.
~*~

Briar felt terror curl around every inch of their fur.
And with a powerful roar, they burst forth in their strongest illusion yet.
Their entire body was replaced with a huge dragon.
They swatted the Beast with a huge claw.
~*~

With a confused yelp the Beast backed off.
Frightened by the huge scaled Beast.
Scarred and Terrified it fled into the forest.
Never to return.
