It was nice to get his paws wet again, to say the least. Elias stood crouched by the edge of the water, while Finnick was a bit down the lakeshore, trying to catch fish of his own. (and if Finn couldn't, maybe he could startle the fish over to where Elias was waiting.)

      Blurb: ☆ DAY 1! FISHISHING!

Today begins the first events of Camp Charcuterie, and thus an utterly exciting time, I'm sure of it! After all, this takes place outside of the realm of Altan, where Khafra rests...it's all so so unfathomable and yet, I'm standing right here! Who would've thought that such places existed outside of the super secret, sacred borders that protect Altan's land? I surely didn't! I mean...I knew a world existed, but...well, you get the idea, I'm sure!

In any case, there's so much to see and explore here! Grasses, bushes, trees...it's all so shocking. Who knew they existed? (These things don't exist in Khafra really...only the occasional dead bush, but they're not very helpful. They're funny looking though.) But most of all, the most surprising thing that must be here is none other than…

      Water!

And tons of it. It's over there, over here, and - oh look, it's practically everywhere! But not. You hardly ever see any rain in the desert, because...well, I'm sure you know why. Anywho, onto the real deal here. Fishing!

The caliby's paws were practically tingling with excitement as she neared the lake, blue optics wide with excitement. She'd never gone fishing before now, so this would certainly be a day to remember and tell all her friends about Snap, especially. But wait! How does one fish without knowing how to, let alone know what a fish looks like? Well, it can't be that hard, surely!

"I'll simply copy the others, it can't be that hard!" And so the caliby positioned herself upon the shoreline, her gaze poised upon the watery depths before her. One moment, two mome- Splash! With hardly a moment to spare, the feline had disappeared amongst the water, having lunged after the first thing that came within her sight. After all, who needed all that patience and whatever else it was that kept the opposing felines on the shore?

Well, catching whatever it was would be easier if she knew how to swim. Don't I know how to swim though? I guess not. Water was scarce among the desert and bodies of water deep enough to swim in were...practically non-existent. Oh well, this was a good time to learn how to! Just keep kicking...or whatever. (She'll be fine, I promise you.)

Now. With that settled (or as settled as it would be for now), where had that thing gone? That fish...or whatever it had been.

Cedarstep, despite his cavern home containing many small water sources and being located directly beside a large swampy lake, had never been one for hunting or water.

Despite this, though, the tom had decided to put on his bravest face- for the sake of his team! His squad! His new homies!
Steadying himself at the waters edge, Cedar dipper a tentative toe into the chilly depths- recoiling near instantly as the beetle on his shoulder fluttered its carapace irritably.

"We'll be fine, you big baby!" The tom chastised playfully, mostly to himself. This would absolutely be a story to tell back home once he was finished up with camp- the brave, mighty, fearless Cedarstep! He bested a mighty shark within the lake!

With new resolve he lunged forward yet again, slapping messily into the mud near the waters edge.

Cedarstep squinted his vibrant eyes at the waters surface, and he waited. And waited. And waited. And maybe nearly fell asleep- and waited.

Soon, surely, something would come by, and when it did he would be ready!

Smolderingkestrel purred, looking into the lake with excitement gleaming in his eyes. Finally, something he was good at and knew he would enjoy! He was a prowler, a warrior specialized in the art of the hunt, and the clan of the broken night didn’t shy away from the water. He could see some cats hesitating around the water, but he shook his pelt, waded into the shallows, and dived deep into the middle of the lake. He treaded water, droplets streaming from his head and ears. “It’s great!” Smolder called to his teammates at the shore, flicking his tail and making powerful strokes down into the depths. The lake was chock full of fish, and little glimmering things - he narrowed his eyes, setting his sights on his prey. He vowed not to get distracted by any little sparks of gold; that big fish was his!

Blurb: Creamsoda's eyes grew big with curiousity as their reflection shines bright on the surface of the rippling water. A purr hums in their throat as they adjust their stance, which tends to be quite sloppy hunting posture. Rump high in the sky with their tail wagging almost dog like, stirring with excitement. Their tongue poking out of the side of their mouth as they concentrate and their ears held high with confidence. The cream colored tabby flexes their claws before hopping into the shallow water at a shadow looming beneath them.

bobbin was a bit less confident going into this than he was going out to look for sticks. he had never caught fish before. he stayed in the shallow water, where he could tell how to get back to the land, but even so he frequently dashed out of the water, afraid that he'd lost his sense of direction. he couldn't smell much around the water in general, and he didn't leave a path of any kind to follow back to land. other cats were going further out than him, and still more were on the land, so he couldn't rely on his hearing to tell him where to go either. with his sense of touch being just about the only one he could rely on, he could tell when there were fish around his paws, but catching them was pretty difficult.

Blurb: Gremlin stared at the lake in concentration, keeping a safe distance from the edge. He despised water, and swimming even more. Oh why is the role of Leading a community so difficult? she lamented, aware that to provide food for herself and to maintain her courageous image of Community Leader, she would have to brave the waters and defeat the fish. Reluctantly, she took a deep breath and ran headfirst towards the water, skidding to a stop barely two paws from the lake. Another breath. She dipped a paw into the water, cringing.

Kiprey sat a good ways away from the shoreline, watching the other cats fishing and fidgeting nervously. The idea of treasure or massive fish was tempting but... "Are you sure there's no seals in there?" He turned to Birchmist, eyes wide. The seals in the lake back home usually were fairly calm, but tended to get... loud if they caught the cats fishing too close for their comfort. He already had to explain exactly what a seal was to the older cat - which was harder than Kiprey thought it would be - but he still wasn't reassured. Eventually, Birchmist was able to soothe Kiprey's concerns, and the little tabby tentatively waded into the lake. It was surprisingly much warmer than the lake his clan named itself after, and soon Kiprey was joyously swimming about, seals and fishing and treasure forgotten for now.
