There's always been that stigma around traveling bards. You know the one:
"They’ll act as friendly as a babe, seduce you with their music, then rob you blind."
It was such a silly thing, and yet not entirely un-deserved.
If people like Dew were proof of anything, then it would be that
... sometimes stereotypes existed for a reason.

the deal of death:
aeliana opened the door of the small shop, and her arrival was announced with a small bell ringing. the shop had papers and books scattered everywhere that it could across the walls and somewhat on the floors. the shop keeper's apprentice looked up from the papers scattered on the counter. with a warm welcoming smile, the apprentice motioned for aeliana to come closer. "aeliana, what brings you here this time? some more herbs, or how about another love potion?" the apprentice asked as aeliana approached. aeliana was one of the regulars here, coming about once or twice a week to get a needed herb for her medical pratice. sometimes she comes for an unsuccessful love potion for someone who she loves.

"naenia, you deal with necromancy, right?" aeliana asked, knowing it would turn naenia towards a sour mood. "i know about what goes on in the back. i need some help with something important."

just as aeliana finished, naenia turned sour due to one thing. necromancy was one of the few outlawed magical practices in their kingdom. the store front of a potion ingredient shop was just a front for an underground necromancy business. a handful of shops were like this, just a so the right people in riddle and you'll find the way to the closest one. "neocromancy has no business here," naenia growled. "i don't understand what got that funky idea in that little head of yours. go somewhere else if you are looking for the underground magic business." the apprentice leaned over the counter and pointed towards the door in an effort to frighten aeliana out.

"one of the sunny ones sent me," aeliana confessed in hopes to settle naenia's sour mood. "they said that you can help me with this one thing that i've been wanting and needing to do." the once sour naenia sat back down on her seat before considering what to do.

aeliana watched naenia in silence hoping and praying that she wouldn't be sent away. this potion was one that she read about and would love to have as a means for something very important. "fine, i'll help, but if you get caught, do not tell the law enforcers about me or anything doing with this," naenia said as she motioned for aeliana to follow her into the back. the back of the shop was exactly what she would expect for it. potions hanging around with creepy ingredients around. "don't touch anything," naenia warned with a subtle growl. "so, what brings you in to ask for my help?"

"a patient from you know that powerful family, right? that one died on me after i said that i can heal them. i've lied to the family that they are alright and should be out of there in a day or two," aeliana confessed. "if they find out i lied, then they will ruin me and run me out of town. i just need something to bring them back."

"you want me to clean up your mess. fine, just drag your messes around here anymore," naenia said with annoyance in her tone. "i only have one thing to help you, but it requires something that shouldn't be given up."

"that's fine, just do it please!" aeliana begged while naenia sighed and started the brew. grabbing the ingredients and sawing a swift chant in latin, naenia soon finished as if she has done this a hundred times before. “there is one thing that you need to know before taking this,” naenia warned. “the life that is restored comes from your life time, so they are technically living on borrowed time. death will follow you like a shadow when the potion is working, and the only way to end it is by ending it yourself by your own will. you will experience everything that they do and each moment will be weak after you do this.”

“thanks, i’ll give them like a year or so. no need to worry...” aeliana tried to promis. however, that promise was far from the truth. each time a patient died under her protection a new potion would be served. all of the patients lived on her own life force, draining it slowly but surely. the truth will only die with her when her life force is full drained or until she can’t handle the pain of it anymore. each one was on borrowed time, yet aeliana refused to admit so.
