Pearlkit stumbled out of the nursery. She was barely over half a moon old but had decided to explore. Her siblings were snoring away behind her, curled up with their fathers. What a bore they were - the warmth seemed to have made every cat lazy, not just Molluskkit. With a huge sigh, she settled down outside the den, bored. It was honestly just such a sleepy day. The boulders clustered at the side of camp were swarming with snoozing cats, including her new friend: Sealkit. She'd been kicked out of the nursery for making too much noise and disturbing Musselkit, who had been left in the clan overnight.

The fluffy white kit shook herself and hopped to her paws. There was a way to relieve her boredom - go and talk to Sealkit. She scampered over, grinning, and attempted to clamber onto the smooth rock. Her tiny paws scrabbled uselessly and she slid back down to the earth, grumbling. Sealkit let out a short laugh and led Pearlkit around the side.

'Look,' Sealkit explained. 'This is the best way up.' Pearlkit saw a smooth, earthy path; well worn by small paws. She trotted up it, and sat primly next to the other kit. Her eyes shone happily as she curled her tail carefully around her little white paws, her paw pads comfortable against the colder stone.

The two of them surveryed the camp for a while before Pearlkit succumbed to the mood of the weather and fell asleep. She snuggled up with Sealkit, purring, and only woke up when a loud scream shattered their peace. Cloudpelt, her father, was standing at the entrance to the nursery, staring at her and Sealkit. Was it him who had screamed? Pearlkit got up, and called over to him. 'Hi! You finally woke up!' she mewed in her shrill voice. Cloudpelt's eyes widened in horror and suddenly Pearlkit heard the sharp scrape of scales grinding on stone. She turned her head, and her odd blue eyes froze in shock as the snake lunged.

    ------

Pearlkit stirred in the mossy nest, her tail twitching weakly. There was something funny on her shoulder. She blinked the sleep out of her eyes and staggered to her paws. Sealkit was right there? Pearlkit smiled sleepily at the black tabby, who was looking immensly relieved.

    'Where am I?' Pearlkit yawned.

'In the medicine den,' Sealkit mewed, not at all her usual perky self.

'Why? I feel fine, apart from this..' Pearlkit trailed off, staring at the cobwebs swathing her right shoulder. 'What happened?'

'This,' Sealkit said miserably, pointing to a limp shape at the side of the den. It was a snake. 'Apparently we disturbed it while it was sunbathing.. Your father killed it. Marigoldspark said you were lucky it's venom wasn't poisonous.'

Your cat stumbled upon a sun-basking snake! What do they do?

Jenga was glad to finally have some warm weather...huffing, he trotted along in search of a nice patch of sun, wandering the neighborhood as usual. The black tabby and white tom soon came upon a stone wall, realizing he must be far, on the edge of town, as he had never encountered a stone wall before. Something...long and slithery reared its head up, and Jenga hopped back with a hiss. Realizing it was a snake, and it seemed rather...dronk on sunlight and heat, he settled down and watched it awhile. It didn’t really do anything, so he soon became bored and returned home.

Slateslash watched the newest kits of CliffClan scampering about next to the nursery. His wide-set ears flicked as he silently recalled his first spring.

It had been a late thaw, but the new apprentice Slatepaw was enjoying himself. He'd been sent out with his mentor to examine the tide. The waters were due to swell soon and there was a danger of flooding. He padded up to the cliff and peered down. The water was still low, for now, but Slatepaw could see a steady rise.

'It'll flood the moorlands soon. If the snow melts we'll get washed out of our camp,' his mentor told him, a whisker twitching. 'Come on then, let's head back and inform Quailstar.'

Slatepaw nodded and followed his mentor, tail flicking. After crossing the rest of their territory, the two arrived back at camp. Poppydawn was watching out for them and Slatepaw grinned at the blue-grey molly. 'Where's Quailstar? Apparently we need to report back to him.'

'Of course. He's resting in his den.' The deputy curled her tail in the direction. 'If he's sleeping, don't wake him.'

Unfortunately, the leader was sleeping. The whole clan knew that the frail brown tabby was on his last life, so they slipped out without disturbing him.

This was a bad decision. The flood surprised them during the night. The whole camp was awash, but luckily all escaped. Except for Slatepaw. He was left behind in the back of the apprentices' den, which was bobbing around in the flood water.

Quailstar dived back in to rescue him, as the den began to tear apart. Although Slatepaw was thrown out of the water by the leader, Quailstar was too weak for the current and was swept away.

Poppystar became leader immediately after evacuating the camp. But Slateslash has always felt guilty at the beginning of spring. It's something he'll never forget. That first spring.

Spring symbolises one thing to Foampaw. Silence. To the average cat, this might seem strange. Indeed, for many of Foampaw's clanmates this is surprising. Spring can be loud with new animals and fresh plants. But Foampaw lost her hearing in spring. When she fought against foxes, a severe accident caused this, as well as her missing ear. Foampaw' s life has been a struggle ever since. She has been forced to learn a form of sign language that limits her communication skills. Spring always brings up the tortured feelings that she felt as she recovered from her injury. The silence.

However, halfway to their destination, the park, Jenga heard a rustling in the bushes, slowing down. Jessie noticed his actions, slowing down as well, the pup and humans not seeming to have noticed...Making a cat huff, Jessie glanced away, returning her attention to her bond, and the bushes that so greatly interested him, the bushes which contained that which had moved so in order to rustle them. They peered in and discovered...a fox cub, the little one yiping and growling at them. They managed to convince him to follow, running down the street, two adult foxes rushing from the woods ahead of them. The cub ran to them, and the cats headed off.
