Elijah uses his mask to delve into the deepest parts of the mind and manipulate others into acting the way he wants. Secrets become exposed, fears are exploited, and innocence is destroyed. Elijah does not care about others and only talks to people so he can find information in his search for power. The spiral design on his mask hypnotizes the information bearer, to a point that it is their subconscious that speaks. The dream catchers that hang down from the mask were crafted in such a way that they are not dream catchers at all, but nightmare catchers, that fish out one's deepest fears and brings them up to the surface. The mask covers Elijah's face to keep him anonymous when he wears a disguising black robe and black gloves to keep his hands pure from figuratively touching touching the hearts of others in the way that they are inspired or joyous after his visit. He has no warm golden heart, but an icey blue one that still has the capacity for honour and justice yet his brain just doesn't allow it. His eyes are hidden away so his visual sight doesn't get in the way of that of his inner eye.

His mask could be used for good, to allow people to face their fears and dig into their deepest feelings to find their true calling in life, their passion, but it never will be. Not when worn upon Elijah's face.
