Name;; Aleksey
Gender;; Male
This deerssert's best memory;; Aleksey's best memory involves overcoming many obstacles in his life; leaving home at an early age in order to help his family, and being a servant for a spoiled-rotten "princess". This selfish girl would eventually become his teacher, and would give Aleksey the education he'd always desired, but had never received.
❅❄❅From Rags to Riches;;I'm certain you're a bit interested in knowing more about this boy, yes? I'll start from the beginning. Aleksey was born and raised in Russia, and lived just outside of the town, Oymyakon. And let me tell you, Oymyakon is cooooold! But Deerssert born in Russia are commonly adapted to the environment, thus he had a shaggier coat than the average deer.
Aleksey lived in Russia's coldest town with his family of six; he had two older brothers and one older sister. His parents ran a small dairy farm, which barely made enough for them to get by on. And growing up was tough on such a small budget. The kids couldn't get the education they needed, and his parents were constantly threatened with foreclosure (though living in Oymyakon was probably the worst thing next to being homeless). Regardless, he couldn't bear to see his family suffer. Everyone was pitching in and doing their best to keep their home, but the total income wasn't enough.
So at the age of seventeen, Aleksey said goodbye to his family and went off in search of fortune. He'd promised to send money back home the second he'd earned his first paycheck, but there was one teeny tiny problem... Nobody was willing to hire the uneducated boy. He couldn't read or write, and he was a farm boy with little social experience outside of his home.
Aleksey wasn't just going to quit, though. He'd promised to help his family, and dangit he would, even if it was the last thing he'd ever do.
And then it happened. He'd been scouring the country's capital, Moscow, when he ran into another buck. Quite literally ran into him. The buck was tall, snooty-looking, and disgusted by the sight of Aleksey. When the boy began to apologize and explain that he'd been too distracted by his personal matters, the older buck smirked and offered up a proposal. Aleksey could have a job in watching his daughter, or "princess" as he liked to call her, and would be paid handsomely in return for his services. And while Aleksey was the youngest of his family and had never really watched over anyone younger than him, he'd agreed.
Boy, was he kicking himself for that. He'd basically agreed to being a bratty teen's servant, all because he needed the money. Now the girl wasn't much younger than him, keep in mind that he was nearly eighteen and she sixteen. But that difference certainly didn't matter to the princess. She was quick to make use of her "servant". She wanted her room cleaned? He'd do it. She needed her hair brushed? He'd do it. Heck, he did everything she'd asked except for her homework! And he would have loved to try to. He longed for information, craved knowledge, but the princess didn't care.
Aleksey worked for the family for a few years, and was sure to send home every paycheck he earned. The princess had begun attending a private college, and he was often stuck bored in the home, doing his routine chores. By now, the farm boy had become a clean, proper buck. No he wasn't literate or educated, but he'd cleaned himself up quite a bit. His fur wasn't matted, his hooves weren't muddy... Heck, he certainly wasn't as skinny as he had been before. But still, how he craved knowledge...
It wasn't until one day he'd come across the princess' room to fluff her pillows. She was lying in her bed, weeping. Probably over another break up, but Aleksey asked anyways.
"School is so hard... And I can't do it anymore! All the homework and stress... There's never anytime to do what I want and I... I want to drop out, Aleksey!" And she wept and wept. Aleksey was wide-eyed with shock, and was quick to rebuttal.
"Drop out? Drop out of school? Because it's hard? Look princess, my life is hard. Having to support my family paycheck to paycheck, that's hard. And I haven't quit. Hell, I would kill to have the opportunities you've been given! I'd give anything to be as educated as you are." And that was when the princess looked at him, with the most pitiful look of realization.
"You... What do you mean?" Regardless of her education, she was slow to catch on.
"I mean... I can't read or write, princess. This was the only job I could have without needing those skills." And with that, everything changed. She felt... Sorry, for Aleksey. For the first time, the princess cared about someone other than herself.
The princess had agreed to stay in school and earn her masters in finance (seeing as a spoiled brat like her really should know her numbers), and also to help Aleksey learn to read and write. He's twenty-two now, and can read at a ninth-grade level.
