Art Movement Name: Pointillism
Something about your chosen Art Movement: In pointillism, small dots of color are used to form an image.
Piece from Movement: A Sunday on the Island of La Grande Jatte
What do you like about the piece?: The amount of detail that he was able to put into this just by using little dots of color is impressive (yes, I know it's a large painting, but still). The shading and highlight effects he was able to produce are also amazing.

Art Movement Name: Hard-edge Painting
Something about your chosen Art Movement: Hard-edge painting[1] is painting in which abrupt transitions are found between color areas. Color areas are often of one unvarying color. The Hard-edge painting style is related to Geometric abstraction, Op Art, Post-painterly Abstraction, and Color Field painting.[2]
Piece from Movement: Lorser Feitelson, "Untitled", 1952,
What do you like about the piece?: It may look plain at first, but what I like about it is the contrasting colours and how they're vibrant yet not too flashy whereas you cannot stare at it for too long. I just think that sometimes simplicity works out, and this has to be one of those cases.

Art Movement Name: Expressionism
Something about your chosen Art Movement: The term refers to an "artistic style in which the artist seeks to depict not objective reality but rather the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events arouse within a person.
Piece from Movement: Corpse in Barbwire by Otto Dix
What do you like about the piece?: I like this piece because like much of the expressionist movement it is inspired by war. You can see how terrible the aftermath of the war was. It shows clear emotion and I think that you can really see the horror of war in the piece.

Art Movement Name: Rococo
Something about your chosen Art Movement: The Rococo Movement was developed in Paris, France, and flourished under the reign of King Louis XV and King Louis XVI. It symbolized the last style of the French Empire (Followed by Neoclassicism, which represented the first style of the French Republic). Known for being light and playful, this art period reflected a view of one's private life. The art of this period displayed delicate swirls, and could be seen as frivolous and even hedonistic. One of it's main objectives was to celebrate court life, as well as represent an overall celebration of life. It was warm and sensuous, and held key ideas such as love, delight, and the idealistic world. The art from this period can be described as graceful, delicate, and elegant. (Think of Ballet, the dainty dance form developed in this movement!) Some of the notable French artists of this period were Antoine Watteau, Jean-Honore Fragonard, and Francois Boucher.

Piece from Movement: The Swing, by Jean-Honore Fragonard
What do you like about the piece?: This piece is, without a doubt, a perfect representation of this Art Movement. There is a fluidity of line and movement, and the artist really captures the playful nature of this period with his use of fluffy clouds, full and bushy trees, and layers of lacy ruffles on the skirt. It displays a rather carefree, lighthearted nature. There is also bit of naughtiness to it with the man looking up the woman's skirt, however I think this highlights the fact that this movement was meant to express not only playfullness but also the private lives of people. One of my favorite things about this art piece and this movement in general is how starkly it contrasts the Baroque period(seen before Rococo) as well as the Neoclassicism period(seen after Rococo). And, as a little add-on, you may have actually seen this piece featured in Disney's newest movie, Frozen: x, x.

Art Movement Name: French Symbolist Movement
Something about your chosen Art Movement: Starting in France within the late 1800s- though it influenced other European artists and poets- the French symbolist movement strayed from the ideals set in place by the preceding naturalist and realist epochs. It focused on the imagination, often taking on themes of melancholy and madness (Edgar Allan Poe was said to have heavily influenced the symbolists). This movement was especially popular among poets, having been started by the likes of Charles Baudelaire, Stéphane Mallarmé, and Paul Verlaine.
Piece from Movement: The Wounded Angel by Hugo Simberg
What do you like about the piece?: (Disclaimer: I don't mean to start a religion-based war. This is just me answering a question.) This painting says a lot, and I agree with the point it makes about perfection: it doesn't exist. The piece also served as the inspiration behind Nightwish's music video for their song "Amaranth," which is just awesome. XD

Something about your chosen Art Movement: The night scenery, lighting, and stars provided subjects for his more famous paintings, such as The Starry Night.
Piece from Movement: XXX
What do you like about the piece?: I dont really like older art, well all time famous art as much. Im not completely sure why, I just dont. But ever since i could remember, this one has caught me eye. I love the river, always fishing on the bank or swimming. {{Yes I am from the country}} There's nothing like it, especially the Red River. I have so many great memories with it, its just amazing. I didnt have a good child hood but it was a few of the great times i had. I specifically remember being in a boat with my dad, standing by the riverbank and him telling me the story of how someone drowned. And when my brother knocked me into the water and i thought i was going to suffocate from all the lily pad things. And how i immediately became scared and clawed my way up and into the boat.
Something about rivers have always held the thought of life and death for me. It just keeps moving on. Van gogh was inspired by the river right outside one of his home and i just cant help but think "How wonderful it would be.." I could sit and stare at the water forever, nature's mirror and portal into something we cant live in.

Art Movement Name: Post-Impressionism
Something about your chosen Art Movement: Post-Impressionists extended Impressionism while rejecting its limitations: they continued using vivid colours, often thick application of paint, and real-life subject matter, but they were more inclined to emphasize geometric forms, to distort form for expressive effect, and to use unnatural or arbitrary colour.
Piece from Movement: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Starry_Night
What do you like about the piece?: my favorite piece of all time. I am in love with art with this sort of flowing, not so detailed look. The little specks of colors that as a whole create a beautiful painting is in my opinion a great technique/style. Also how the scene is peaceful and calming and portrays my favorite thing to look at that calms me; the night sky. & I actually named my son Vincent (and my first WME) after this artist.

I dunno, I just really liked the idea that they went above and beyond, leaving behind the limitations and just doing what inspired them, with colors and styles of their fancy.<3
Piece from Movement: Islands in the Rhine river near to Strasbourg
What do you like about the piece?: Honestly, it just looks so beautiful and serene. I love the soft colors and abstract shapes of the rocks in the background. I like how the color scheme keeps a vintage, dream-like feeling to the painting, with the gentle shades repeated over and reflected in many different ways and places; it really helps tie the whole thing together as one piece. I like the large, fluid strokes visible through the painting as well, and I love the small golden streaks that seem to me to mark the edges of them ;; if that makes sense. The reflections on the water are so pretty and soft ... I dunno, they really help tie it off for me. Overall though, if I had to sum up that whole huge rambly explanation there - XD - I would say what I like most about this piece is how it seems to me like a happy memory- someone remembering a lazy summer day on the river in a time past.

Art Movement Name: Op Art
Something about your chosen Art Movement: Optical art is a method of painting concerning the interaction between illusion and picture plane, between understanding and seeing. Op art works are abstract, with many of the better known pieces made in black and white. When the viewer looks at them, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively, of swelling or warping.
Piece from Movement: (link)
What do you like about the piece?: I love how the art moves your eye, and the boy manages to keep the entire piece from seeming to unrealistic while the art seems to jump out at you!
