Last Christmas Eve, both of Jingle's parents were out of the house for one reason or another. Out of boredom, he decided that he was going to impress Santa Claus when he came down the chimney that night. How? Jingle was going to bake sugar cookies (even though he's a terrible cook). From scratch. From a recipe off the internet. "Wow," he told himself, "This is going to be great!" He searched around his parents' kitchen, and found, miraculously, all the ingredients that the website told him he needed. "Flour, baking soda, baking powder, butter... it says softened butter... I bet it'll taste okay with normal butter. Um, white sugar, and egg, and vanilla extract." Realizing that was everything, Jingle was relieved. The vanilla extract smelled great, so he tried some of it from the bottle. He learned his lesson, and got down to work.
Jingle then realized something critical. Mom doesn't let me touch the oven!, he thought to himself. "J-just this once. Mom doesn't even have to know." With hesitation, Jingle preheated the oven to the right temperature, set aside two bowls, and followed the directions from the website carefully. There were several times that he freaked out, thinking that he accidentally put too much butter in or didn't measure the flour to pinpoint perfection; then check the directions again and be washed over with a wave of relief.
After many minutes of confusion, sweating, dashing across the kitchen, sighing, laughing nervously, and almost fainting, it was done. Jingle was very happy about this. "Now to put it in the oven for, um... 8 to 10 minutes."
So, the sugar cookies were still "8 to 10 minutes" away. Jingle had to wait.
