So stunning! <3

Name:jesus4ever

Horse's Name: Sanuye (Miwok, meaning, "Red cloud at sundown")

Height: 16.2h

Gender: Mare/Female

Gift/Omen: The Forbidden Horse of the Sun (Basically a sequel to the Song of the Horses)

Many hues of different colors slowly settled into the darkening blue sky while the sun started to disappear beneath the horizon. Many voices could be heard as people stood on the dusty ground, gazing up at the sky wistfully. "Good bye, Sun-God!" they called out many times. "May your family have good luck!" This was a valued custom that happened every time the sun disappeared. Suddenly, flames exploded from behind them once the chief lit some firewood ablaze. Children squealed with delight while others stood silently. Some had smiles etched upon their faces and others were emotionless. The chief beckoned the tribe to gather round with a welcoming smile full of warmth.

The tribe slowly made their way around the fire and found a place to sit down as soft voices entered the air. Suddenly, every voice stopped and the air became still. Even the crackling of the fire became quieter. The Storyteller exited his home and sat down on a stone that was flat at the top near the blazing flames. "Listen my children," he announced in his ancient voice. His dark brown eyes reflected the dancing fire and his tan skin was illuminated in the light. People in the back of the crowd could see the wrinkles on his body as he sat there with the wind brushing softly against his grayish-black hair. "I shall tell you a story about a horse. A horse that had been forbidden by the Sun-God himself!" The storyteller pointed to the west at the horizon and the crowd gasped loudly. "Now, let me start from the beginning."

His old hands picked up some dust and threw them into the fire along with some feathers that he had found on the ground nearby. The fire seemed to whisper in protest for a moment and the crowd watched in dead silence. "Everyday, the great Sun-God chooses how the sky should look by choosing one of his five horses," he held up one hand with his fingers outstretched before continuing his story. The people stared at the man for a few moments. Adults whispered to one another about the five horses, for they knew about the Sun-God's horses. The children however, did not truly know about this. "If he wants the sky to be blue, he uses his turquoise horse and takes it across the sky along with the sun itself. If he wants the sky to be white or pearly too, he either takes his white horse or his pearly-colored horse." The old Storyteller paused and studied the expressions of the crowd carefully for a few seconds. "Now, if he wants the sky to be stormy, he either takes his gray-black horse or his red horse. And everyday, he lets his horses drink and play in the purest of the lands. The water is pure for the horses to drink and it is holy. Everyday, Johano-ai will take his horses back home, so that he may be ready for his next journey across the sky.

"One night, the white horse and the red horse fell in love and gave birth to a baby horse of both white and red with beautiful spots upon her body. Johano-ai was happy and hoped to take the red and white horse across the sky someday. For some time, he trained the horse to learn how to run across the sky," the Storyteller smiled slightly and the children began to chatter brightly, filling the atmosphere with excitement. "Finally, the horse was ready to go across the sky. She was trained to make the clouds red at sundown. Everytime she went across the sky, she would see mortal horses below and she would be happy for them. She wanted to do what mortal horses did, but the Sun-God only allowed his horses to stay in the pure land they lived in. However, she didn't obey and went away from the other horses. She became thirsty and decided to drink the water of the mortal horses. The mortal horses didn't drink pure water, so the red and white mare became impure because of the water she drank which angered Johano-ai." A child whimpered softly, for she felt bad for the red and white mare.

The elder gazed up at the dark sky that held thousands of stars, dotting the beautiful night. "When the red and white horse went back to the Sun-God, he did not allow her to enter the holy and pure lands. 'You disobeyed me.' he said angrily. 'I told you not to drink from the mortal water and now you are forbidden to enter these lands.' The mare pleaded for forgiveness, but Johano-ai didn't listen. Because she disobeyed him, he put a curse upon her head too." The child who had whimpered looked down with her black hair cascading over her shoulders. "He turned the mare into a mortal horse and put her in the dryest of lands. The land he put her in was hot and had sand. Johano-ai gave her cloven hooves so that she may run across the dry land. The curse that he gave her was quite terrible. 'Everywhere you go, storms of red lightning shall follow. No rain will come from the clouds, only red lightning.' he said to her. 'If you stop and the red lightning storms come upon you, they will unleash their wrath on everything around you. Which means you must keep running in order to keep the land around you from receiving the wrath of the red lightning storms.'

"The red and white horse shuddered at her changes and was put in the dry lands. Immediately, storms of red lightning started to follow her and she started to run away, trying to keep the land around her from being destroyed. Sometimes, she'll stop to rest and the red lightning storms will find her and unleash their wrath upon the land around her just like the Sun-God said. And to this day, she has been known as, Sanuye, which means red cloud at sundown because she used to make the clouds red whenever the sun disappeared. If you ever see Sanuye, you must run away because of the storms of red lightning that follow!" The adults shifted about nervously and muttered to each other with fear tainting their tones. "Now," the Storyteller said, "we must sing to the Sun-God, so that we may get great horses from him and have protection over our animals." The people stood together and everyone looked up at the sky as the moon shone beautifully.

"How joyous his neigh!
Lo, the Turquoise Horse of Johano-ai,
How joyous his neigh,
There on precious hides outspread, standeth he;
How joyous his neigh,
There of mingled waters holy, drinketh he;
How joyous his neigh,
There in mist of sacred pollen hidden, all hidden he;
How joyous his neigh,
These his offspring may grow and thrive forevermore;
How joyous his neigh!"

the tribe sang loudly in unison as the fire danced with the wind. After they sang, they all smiled and spoke to one another and began to disperse. Suddenly, a whinny echoed through the air and a horse came into view. it was a mare with a red coat and white hindquarters along with spots that dotted her body. A few of the children gasped as the horse reared up into the air. The light of the fire revealed the cloven hooves of the horse and a few of the women cried out in horror. "It's Sanuye!" one screamed and soon the whole tribe ran about in panic. A few adults poured water onto the fire and kicked some dirt at it until the flames died away. Sanuye snorted and brought her front hooves back onto the ground before bolting. She galloped through the crowd, swerving to avoid people.

"Why is she here?" a man asked, appalled and surprised. "Isn't she supposed to live in the dry lands?"

"We live near the dry lands!" his wife answered with large frightened brown eyes.

"Run!" the chief and the Storyteller cried out at the same time as they and the tribe ran off, gathering their things and their animals. Clouds began to cover the night sky and thunder rumbled softly in the distance, causing the tribe's fear to grow. Sanuye kept on running and she whinnied as if she were screaming in horror. The tribe soon gathered what they could and began to escape from the red lightning storm's grasp. They all knew that Sanuye had brought it to their land, for the Forbidden Horse of the Sun had come...

(Basically, she only brings red lightning.)

Johano-ai~ Another name for the Sun-God

Ah. Such a beauty. :D

Name:
SpartanAmethyst

Horse's Name:
Alosaka

Height:
16.2h

Gender:
Stallion

Gift/Omen:
The name "Alosaka" is from a Hopi myth about a god (named Alosaka, of course) who was responsible for crop growth. It was said the he was gentle, kind, and aloof. He does not bring rain, however, but instead if he appears nearby a village at the beginning of the growing season, then that village will have a grand harvest.

"It is sunrise when he is first seen," the old elder spoke softly, his dark eyes gazing longingly into the fire that crackled in the cold night. His grandchildren sat before him, mystified by the story, the flames sparkling in their eyes. He smiled, laugh lines adorning his aged face. "He is a creature of beauty and mystery, and is so rarely seen that those few that have seen him often don't remember what he looks like. But I do."

There was a long pause as a few of the mothers giggled at their children. "His coat speaks destruction; dark tones overlay a fiery bay, and his hair is short. He is not one of the coveted ones, not a rain-bringer, but instead of bringing trouble as many assume, he is also a sign of hope.

On the first morning of planting, in the hours before the sun has woken from it's slumber, the elders rise and pray. They chant and sing in the hopes of bringing fortune to the village and enticing the stallion to come close. At the first rays of light, of their prayers are answered he will appear on the horizon and come down into the village. Left to his own devices, he will choose whether or not the village deserves his blessing. If the hunters have been respectful to the game they've taken, the men responsible, and the women and children obedient, then he will tread on the fields. Wherever his hooves fall, it is said, are the best rows to plant in.

If the stallion does not see the village fit to have his blessing then he will leave, trodding on none of their land and leaving their harvest to chance. But his appearance is very rare; in my old age I have only seen him twice, and I've searched for him every season. But those seasons he does appear," the elder sighs. "It's like seeing a long lost friend."

The Elder took a deep breath before adding one more little piece to his story. Alosaka is also a destroyer, in his own way, but he only destroys what is dead and dying, and heralds the coming of new life. Sometimes he leaves the desert and moves into the forest, exploring the old and dying wood of certain areas before leaving again. Within the next day, there is a mystic wildfire that starts where he has walked, and it clears out the old vegetation and makes room for new growth. It has always been said that he alone holds the responsibility of growth, and he's always done his job."

Hoping I'll get lucky with this stunner 8D

Name: loveTHATwolf
Horse's Name: Altern (age, mature, get older in German)
Height: 16.2h
Gender: mare
Gift/Omen: Altern's bringing are both a gift, and an omen. The wiser notice her importance and see her as a god, while the younger want to hold their youth so much that she is a demon to them. Altern, after death, is always reincarnated back, and is always unaware of her job until she has also aged, and once the newer reincarnation accepts her job, the old one's spirit is put to rest. A world without Altern would never survive. This mare's job is simple in anyone's eye but her own. She ages everything, from the earth, to the smallest bacteria on the ancient grounds. She set the deadlines, and it is her job to maintain them. Things like the fountain of youth we created by those who thinks they can defy her dates. But they exist, showing she isn't a true god. She cannot destroy them, she merely has to make it seem as an allusion, and that aging cannot be avoided. Many think she is who takes lives, but she is not. She loves like on earth and does her best to delay death, but some one else manages that, and often she must let go of the life she cherishes so much. Her children always have a great concept of life, but never replace her. Her reincarnation is always in a new bloodline. This time she happens to be a fiery DAM, she understands her job, and has released the previous spirit.

Name: Wood.
Horse's Name: Pósimo Aíma (Poh-si-mo Eh-ma, meaning "drinkable blood")
Height: 16.2h
Gender: Mare
Gift/Omen:
As the travellers that have crossed the mighty desert, they have all seen her. Their tired eyes have never been mistaken when seing the whine-red mare pound her hooves over the desert around them and trapping them in a cloud of sand when they try to capture her. They call her Pósimo Aíma after the myth told by a man who had been closer to her than no other.
He had been looking for her for days, and when she came he was preperd.
With a rope and a rusty knife, he almost got her but he only got three drops of blood on his knife and watched her dissepear.
When he got to the village, he gently putted the blood in a little glass pot and left it on a shelf.
One day when he was going to show the blood to one of his nephews, he caught a weird smell when he opened it.
With a daring try, he drippled one drop in his mounth and tasted it. The drop of blood slowly ran down his throat and the man knew the taste. It had turned to whine, and no normal whine, he had never tasted enything better.
The days after he felt more fit and quick than ever, but the feeling dissepeard the day after. He couldn't stand himself and took one more drop, the same happend and he wanted to take the last one. But when he got to find it, the only thing left was a drop sized and shaped ruby.
And it's said that the one who does the same once more, will get the double of the feeling and the prize.
Nobody have done it, so nobody have yet found out the consequences...

... when the blood moon rises ...

Name: Angua
Horse's Name: Grimm
I choose the name, in honor and inspired by the "Tales of brothers Grimm". Not the tales every child knows, the dark and fearful ones, nobody wanna knows. I think it fits him and the sad and cruel legend ranks about him.
Height: 16.2 h
Gender: male
Dark Omen/Legend:

"It's a long run for the mustang, you better don't care."
In the southern part of America you can hear this idiom from time to time - mostly around households with native backround. It's a synonymous for "Do not plug your nose into other matters than yours, possibly it will turn out uncomfortable." Even fewer people knows about the sad legend this idiom is based on. It's an old legend, comes from the desert.

When the moon rises in crimson red, the cherokee speak of a so called "Blood Moon". This moon is kind of a gate, connecting the real world with the spirit one. And if you wanna pass, you have to pay. Pay a high prize. Not Inca gold or the rare black gold is able to open up, only the red gold - blood - can reclaim the way. This legend all cherokee knows.
Only some of them knows about the sad story of the poor, little mustang, cruelly sacrificed by a mad shaman. He wanna ride on his back through the gate - opened up with it´s innocent blood - without having to give his own life for.
His choice fell on a nearly snow-white -besides some tiny appaloosa spots- and beautiful little stallion, to impress the ancestry of spirits. -Poor little darling!-
But the shaman did not expect how strong the survival instinct of a wild stallion can be.
They fought out a fight for life and death - the desert sand flew up, the hard hooves of the mustang were thundering onto the ground mixed with a raging snort and in the midst of the drama metal flashed.
The first drop of blood hits the ground and a red shine from far away flooded slowly the horizon - the Blood Moon rises.
Without realizing it during their scrimmage this moment, both - meanwhile covered in blood - were swept from the floor of the world. ... Last end, both passed the gate, nobody had won the fight and both paid the prize ...

Since then, everytime the crimson red moon rises again and real and spirit world blur together, you can see the little mustang - almost completely stained red by blood - running through the horizon. He flees with wided nostrils and quivering flanks away from a monstrous grey wolf which is going to set him with wide cracks and the rabid shimmering eyes fixed on his aim - the shaman in his spirit shape.

Seeing this cruel and frightening scene had been some driven to madness. Therefor a cherokee will not looking towards horizon when the blood moon is up on the firmament, some without really knowing why.

But the day will come, the young mustang stops out of his run, will turn around to his torturer and ... fight again!

Because of nearly none human had seen a DAM, and when, thinking of had seen a mustang out of the distance, Grimm is described here, wrongly, as normal mustang.

Edit: Little DAM, I pray for your fortune!

Name:
Seatala
Horse's Name:
Santiago
Height:
16.2 hands
Gender:
Stallion
Gift/Omen:

The children of the indian camp gathered around the old man and woman, who where telling the great legend of the firey DAM, Santiago. They where all talking, not really wanting to here any other old tale the old folks always seem to have to tell.
"Children, we are now going to tell you the legend, the legened of the great Santiago. Now, once upon a time, there was a time when the indian tribe was very poor, unhealthy, thirsty, and starving. There where not alot of horses to go around, so we could not travel like we do now, you see, there for we where stuck, and could not look for food or water. Our tribe was slowly dying, but a miricale had saved our lives. If it hadden't happened, you all wouldn't exist!" The old man, who was trying to make the whole story sound interesting, exagerated at the end. The children gasped, all siting up straight and wide eyed now. The old women chuckled, now let us continue,
"Santigao, was born to a beaituful DAM. Actually, the mother had come to our tribe to help us birth her colt. Mabey she just somehow trusted us." The children leaned forward, now silenced, and wanting to here more. She continued, " He was a beautiful colt, the color of crimson red, a real stud he was, with a handsomly marked appy coat, of course! He would always buck and kick and just be a wild and crazy foal. We would always whatch him play. But when he grew older, about two or three years old, he started to change. Santiago would leave, for days or weeks on end. One morning, the camp woke to find that all of our mares where gone! We where very upset, now not having as many of horses as we did, we where sure we would die now, with out our number of horses that we had before. The number of our horses where slowly increasing, and hope was filling in our tribsesman and women's hearts, but that was before the mares had suddenly dissapeared... Someone, one of the people who had helped birth Santiago, had pointed out that he was gone as well. We all knew right then that Santiago had stollen them. Everyone was disspressed, and angry at the stallion, wondering why had they trusted him?" The old woman was on the verge of tears, and so was the children. The old man continued the story,
"It was a few weeks, and still no sight of our mares, or Santiago. People where getting madder and sadder, and fights started to break out. But when there was a very big fight that broke out one afternoon, the people suddenly stopped, and looked to the setting firey sun. As they whatched, a great herd galloped twoards the camp, with the great Santiago in the lead. His mane and tail was tipped with the firey light from the sun, almost as if he himself was on fire. He had let out a great wild and stong whinny, casting his apperence to all. The herd galloped into the camp and all around. You could clearly see the mares had gotten plumper, and soon after, the people found out why. Santiago, had bred the mares, so that the people would have more horses to travel on. The great stallion also had brought a greater gift, the gift of rain. Even though only the long maned DAMs bring rain, Santiago was so stong willed, and such a great spirit, he had to power to bring rain. About once or twice a month, somtimes more, he would come by to check on the tribe. This would then bring rain to all, and life had changed drastically for the tribe. You may still see this great stallion gallop by, but it is very rare, for he knows, that we are safe.
