❝ This is it! The boss fight! The most important part of any hero's story!
How do they vanquish the Evil? ❞
[722 words]
Both good and evil readied their weapons. Rueben and false Rueben circled each other, each waiting for the other to make the first move. Rueben swung his knife forward, and the false version dodged deftly. Polaris and false Polaris were backing away from each other, bows drawn and arrows knocked. False Polaris released his arrow first, and Polaris leaped behind a massive crystal.
Every blow our heros tried to land were dodged swiftly, and returned with more force by their other half. Rueben was covered in wounds, keeping the throne between him and the false Rueben.
"Hiding, dear Rue? You know you can't keep this up." The false Rueben laughted, leaping across the golden throne and knocking Rueben to the floor. He held his knife to the real Rueben's throat, trapping him. Rueben struggled, but his arms were trapped under the false Rueben's legs.
"Any last words? I'm a patient fellow, I'll let you say goodbye," The fake Rueben sneered, pressing the knife closer. Rueben opened his mouth to throw every last curse he knew before his death, but suddenly an arrow pierced the fake Rueben's side, knocking him off. He sputtered, and struggled to stand up while the real Rue clambered away. The false Rueben gritted his teeth, and pulled the arrow out of his side. Polaris looked down towards the good Rueben, and flicked his head towards the false Polaris. Getting the message, Rueben turned to fight Pol's evil half. He dodged and weaved towards the crystal outcroppings, climbing them as quickly as he could. The false Polaris was trying to aim at him, but he was too close and moving around too quickly. Polaris turned to the evil Rueben, knocking an arrow and quickly firing at him. While pulling out another arrow Polaris began climbing the crystals, trying to get as high up as possible.
Rueben slashed his knife across the fake Polaris, making him almost lose his balance. He growled and tried to slam Rue in the head with his bow, but the blue kalon caught it with his knife, gashing the wood. This Polaris tried to jump away to gain more room to shoot, but Rueben grabbed his tail, pulling them both to the ground. They began tussling, but Rueben had Polaris beat when it came to strength, and knocked them out.
Across the room, Polaris was shooting at the fake Rueben, who was trying to climb the crystals after him. However each arrow shot into him knocked him down a few feet, slowing his progress heavily. Polaris reached for another arrow, but his hand grabbed only air as he realized his quiver was empty. The false Rueben climbed closer and closer, forcing Polaris to back himself up as far as possible. The evil Kalon reached his hand up, grabbing the edge of the uppermost crystal, pulling himself up to stand across from Polaris. He was covered in arrows, but his hand was steady as he held his knife.
"You are quite the annoyance, aren't you?" He looked around to see his partner out of commission, "You were always the weaker of us. Both in good and evil, you are weak. The fact either of you made it this far is surprising, to say the least. Now, it's time for you to die." he crowed, launching himself towards Polaris. Polaris, however, was prepared. He swung himself around, and out of his backpack flew "HIM" the uncomfortably average sized fire chicken, and Emilio, the pea sized fire chicken. They slammed into the false Rueben, who screeched in pain as the fire lit up his clothing. He lost his footing, slipping off the crystal and plummeting down, down, down, all the way to the floor.

Polaris had climbed down the crystals, and the two adventurers were investigating the damage they reaped. The false Polaris was alive, though unconscious and tied up, ready to be put behind bars. The false Rueben just barely survived the fall, and would meet the same fate as his companion. Neither had the will to finish the job and kill their evil half. The job was done, and killing them didn't help.
Polaris was holding his chickens, giving them pets as he swigged a potion of healing.
"I guess your weird looking chickens came in use after all," Rueben chuckled slightly.
"I knew they were good luck, I told you that, and you didn't believe me. Now look at how things unfolded." Rueben replied.
"I'm going to be hearing about this the whole way home, aren't I?" Polaris sighed, cleaning up his scratches.
"You bet you are." Polaris said smugly, whacking Rueben his his tail.
