Prompt 20
Erebus & Janus
(213)
During their battle Janus and the trickster landed blow after blow. Successfully blocking each other but in turn causing no damage what so ever. Taking a step back he called for Erebus, thanking the stars when the creature before him took the form of himself 'just like we planed' turning towards his mate Janus knew he had to play along "No he's the fake! Trust me!"
This continued for a short time, Erebus slowly getting closer as voices rose in anger and panic.

Suddenly one of the figures face twisted into a savage and terrifying grin as laughter bubbled from within. Pretending to aim at Chaos the plan was successful as the dagger found its deadly mark. As the trickster backed away it let lose a haunting scream that fell into silence.
It was over at last....
The royal family was rescued and life returned to normal. Janus and Erebus asked that their names be left out of history, fame wasn't their goal during this adventure.

-

Looking up from the book a happy but tired kalon looked down at the now sleeping twins. Smiling at his mate the two left the room silently allowing the kits peace "I wonder what adventures they will have?" Janus chuckled "Hopefully none as dangerous as that one."

paige heard the thing whisper something, as if it was trying to communicate, but she couldn't understand. it sounded like jibberish, like it was just slamming it lips together and it made a noise.

at first it didn't look like it meant harm. it was just large, and a bit strange, but it looked calm.

she had broken into a cold sweat, and her eyes darted around the room, but she relaxed as it seemed to not want to harm her.

it walked over to her, trying to talk, but she really didn't get it.

“uh- English?” she asked, as though it was just speaking Spanish instead of some alien tongue.

it didn't seem to understand, but it tried to communicate her via sign language. of which she understood mostly, even if she wasn't very good.

the things minions didn't look too pleased, trying to reason with their lord. it didn't bother.

“why are you here?” she asked with her hands. she was nervous she had done it incorrectly.

“trying to find ——“ it told her. she didn't understand one of the words, and she had never seen it. she wondered if it was a word from their mother tongue.

    “what's that?” she responded.

“it's a simple gadget we lost. it means a lot to my family and our planet, and we needed to get it back no matter what.” he told her.

he was getting a bit aggressive, but she didn't want to get mad.

“have you found it? what does it look like?” she asked.

“it's an orb with an electric center. we need it back. if we don't, it'll destroy your planet, and leave ours to die.” he told her.

“i see. is there any replacements?” she asked.

“none. im sorry, but we can't stop hurting your planet. we need it back as soon as possible.”

that's when paige remembered she had seen a crystal in the cave with the exact same description.

“i think i know what you're talking about.” she told him in excitement.

“this is it! thank you. our planet is in your debt.” he thanked her, taking off.

    sugarsticks - delta!! :3c

delta spun around, keeping an eye on her opponent. it was quick they understood what she was here for, and the thing didnt like it.

“you're not going to stop me!” it spoke. it was obvious it was not its mother tongue, and it was very hard to understand.

delta wouldn't let her eyes off her for a second, not wanting to know what would happen if she got distracted.

delta hopped up onto the throne, which seemed to make the thing uneasy.

“what are you doing? that's dangerous!” it said, the words scratching the sides of its mouth.

delta pushed on the throne, making it collapse. the bricks and the heavy metal fell onto the thing, crushing it

she panted, glad she had finally defeated it. it was a long battle, and she was surprised it went out so quickly. she continued to pant, sitting down. she grabbed the crystals together, smiling for the first time in a while.

    Prompt 20

Nerim walks over to the boss and tries to pet it, resulting in phantoms and purple and green flames to appear. Sozen pulls him back whispering in his ear, "I told you not to trust it, Ner. Now we need to fight."

Sozen whips out his magic staff and is pelting water bullets at the flames. Faerie uses her arrows of nature to grab the phantoms and Nerim uses holy magic to rid of them when captured. They dodge the boss' attacks as they try to fight off the smaller enemies first but they keep getting stronger and faster with each attack.

"We got the last of them!" Faerie shouts. "Sozen! How are you doing with the flames?"

"They're just about gone. Start firing at the boss! We need to make it as weak as we can," Sozen yells back. He puts out the last of the oddly coloured flames and helps his team fight off the evil. Nerim uses holy magic to try and weaken it as much as he can.

"I think it's slowing down!" Nerim says. He's running out of breath from using the magic he knows, since he normally just heals people and doesn't fight.

The boss runs up to a throne that seemed to have just appeared and sits on it. The same purple and green flames surround it and die back down. A woman emerges from them, with a wicked smile on her face. "It's about time someone this strong fights me," she hisses.

Nerim tries to fire holy magic at her and misses.

"You think that'll work on me?" she growls. "I'm stronger now thanks to you. I've been awakened from that puny state all thanks to strong adventurers like you." Little did she know, the magic was meant to miss. It hit a cross behind the throne and it started to come loose. Nerim fires one more shot at it and it falls down and crushes the evil woman beneath it.

"You said it wouldn't on you. Maybe you were right but tricking you did work," Nerim said. He walked over to the fallen cross and laid his hand on it, making holy magic surge through it, erasing any trace of evil.

Nerim, Sozen, and Faerie smile as the sun rises an shines through the window onto them. They've had a long journey here but it's only just started. They vowed to protect their town, their world, just as others are doing. They want to keep the world safe.

Prompt 20
[1,898 words]

Fay, Galena, and Ramey stepped forward into the room, the heavy door swinging against the wall with a resounding thud. The sanctum was surprisingly average, no more regal than the rest of the castle aside from a notable lack of damage from the attacks. The carpeting and curtains were azure blue, decorated with swirling gold trim; the walls were a simple white, shaded a soft blue-grey with evening's light, bouncing off the floor and onto them.
In the center of the room sat a creature not entirely unlike them, small with six legs and horns curling up and forward from its head. Its tail was seemingly prehensile, and ended in what looked to be almost like a clawed, six-digit hand, with four fingers and a thumb on either side. But perhaps most unnerving was its colors. The creature was inky black and almost iridescent, with dark rainbow colors swirling through its veins and cumulating in five wide, opalescent eyes, blinking not quite in sync as it turned to look at them.
"Oh," the creature said, its voice high and childlike and almost echoing, as if not only it but many others were speaking all in unison. "Hello. You must be the heroes." It paused, looking between them. "You there, glowy mister," it said, gesturing to Ramey with one of its paws. "I like your lantern. It seems familiar, almost. And that light in your halo is awfully pretty."
Ramey glanced back at Galena and Fay, flicking his tails as if to say, "Don't trust it," then returned his attention to the creature before them. "Thank you," he said. "It took a lot of effort to get that light."
"May I see it?" the creature asked, tilting its head.
"Certainly." And as it began to walk forward, the swirling light brightened... Then launched what could only be described as a beam of pure light energy at the creature, which jumped quickly out of the way.
"Oh." The creature sounded almost disappointed. "So it's like that, huh? Okay."
And just like that its form began to change. The iridescent inky material that formed its body seemed to become half half-solid for a few moments and then it expanded. And expanded. And within a few seconds, the creature was easily three times Ramey's size, and even larger in comparison to the smaller Kalons who had drawn their swords behind him. Then it solidified into its previous shape again. A beam of its own formed in its mouth, shadowy and evil, and it blasted over their heads and into the floor of the doorway behind them, crystals sprouting up from where it hit and covering the exit.
There would be no running now.
"Okay," the creature said, high voice booming and echoing against the walls of the sanctum. "Let's play."
And it reared up on its hind paws and smashed down onto the floor before the trio, which cracked beneath the rug from the force of the impact.
The trio split into separate directions, Galena to the left, Fay to the right, and Ramey falling back, orb of light flaring as he prepared another beam of energy. The creature swiped at Ramey, who just barely dodged its long and sharp claws, and the light dimmed. Of course it would be focusing on him, with the weapon most capable of fighting back. He prepared another blast of magic, this time from his lantern, and it fired much faster, Ramey more adept with the familiar inferno of yellow-blue flame. The burning light licked the creature's face, and it flinched at the inferno pushing it back.
Over the roar of the fire Ramey yelled, only barely audible. "Fay, Galena, distract it!"
And then the fire dissipated and the creature straightened, unharmed.
"Oh, now I remember," the creature said, standing tall over them. "My creator gave you tha-"
Thick vines broke through the windows, glass scattering everywhere as Ramey attempted to restrain the creature. But just as he the plants broke through and had nearly reached it, it turned and fired a beam of energy, freezing and crystallizing them. It grabbed the vines in its tail and snapped the gemstone off, launching the sharp stone at Ramey as the vine withdrew back into the ground far below. It nearly caught him as he dodged left, and the creature spoke.
"You shouldn't interrupt someone while they're talking, Ramey."
"Fay and Galena turned to look at their companion.
"I thought you said your name was Tory!" Fay called. Gem shards formed around the creature's neck, looking small next to it but easily sharp and long enough to impale any of them.
"Does it really matter right now?!" he shouted, dodging behind the crystal pillar that had nearly killed him moments before as the creature launched a spray of shards at them. Galena closed her eyes tight, and a barrier formed around her, shielding her from the rain of spikes, and Fay dashed behind it, barely avoiding being hit herself.
"Oh no you don't," the creature said, snatching Fay up with its tail and throwing her hard into the wall. She fell in a slump at the base, groaning in pain from the impact.
"Ahh... Note to self, stay away from its butt," she mumbled, rising shakily to her feet.
The creature giggled a bit, and then its form distorted and split. Then suddenly, three of it stood amongst them in the room, one between each of them, each looking at the one opposite with an almost playful expression. Ramey and Fay looked between them, then watched Galena, glaring at the one between her and Ramey, dashed at it, sword drawn. All three of them pounced at once, targeting Ramey, and he leaped back as Galena jumped over and slid under the illusory creatures' paws and hopped onto the real one's middle right leg, clawing her way around and up its inner leg. The creature growled, illusions fading, and tried desperately to grab her with its tail to no avail.
As the orange Kalon climbed, Fay dashed at it, sword drawn, and Ramey began to charge another beam of light. But the creature noticed him just a moment too early, and smacked him into the crystals blocking the doorway. His vision blurred for just a moment as he fell, but then he shook his head and looked again at the creature as he rose to his feet. Galena was on its back now, dashing towards its head as it tried to grab her while swiping at Fay. With some effort he charged again, and this time successfully fired a beam at the creature... But it jumped aside at the last moment, Fay knocked back by its paw and landing to Ramey's left, Galena barely keeping her grip on its inky mane as it fired its own beam, missing Ramey by mere inches to his right. He jumped aside as crystals formed over the spot where he'd been mere moments before, standing in front of Fay, and the creature roared in frustration.
Ramey's lantern flared to life again, and he fired another blazing vortex at its face as Galena hid behind its neck. "Fay," he said over the roar of the fire, "this isn't working. We need to change tactics. Can you focus long enough to not rip reality apart at the seams?"
Fay looked nervous for just a moment, then nodded, a grim look on her face.
"Good. Galena seems to be going for its eyes. When she does and distracts it, you need to warp me under its stomach, understand?"
"I... Yeah. I'll try."
"There's no time to just try. Not with this situation and those powers," he warned. "This is it. You either do this or we fail."
She took a deep breath and nodded has the fire dissipated once more. "Okay."
And, the fire vanished and the creature shaking itself off, the duo split apart again. Ramey hid behind the clear, dark crystal pillar, Fay dashing towards its rear, trying to stop it from grabbing Galena as she climbed past its ears. Sword drawn, Fay slashed at its hind laws, and it snarled, grabbing her with its tail and slamming her against the wall.
"Didn't you learn not to do that the first time?!" it snapped, squeezing her tight in its grip. Ramey dashed towards the right, behind the crystalline vine and nearer to where Fay was held suspended in the air.
"Heh, I guess not," she said. Galena looked at her from her perch atop its inky hair, then nodded and jumped down, sword drawn and pointing right at its topmost eye.
The creature let out a screech of pain as metal collided with what felt more like stone than flesh, and it dropped Fay, pawing desperately at its face, trying to remove Galena by any means possible. Ramey dashed over to his companion, orb glowing brightly.
"Now!" He yelled.
And they disappeared in a burst of indigo clouds and stardust.
For just a moment, they were gone from the room entirely, space distorting and barely hanging on. Fay held her eyes tightly shut, heart racing as she tried desperately to focus.
And then they were both underneath the giant creature, with a clear shot at its chest.
Ramey fired his beam once more at the creature, hitting it square where its heart might have been were it a proper Kalon, and Galena jumped down from where she was clinging on its muzzle as the light cut through the gem eye in its forehead. The creature grew still, light pouring from the cracks in its form where the beam had hit it...
And then there was a great puff of black and rainbow smoke that enveloped the room and a clattering of metal on stone from where Galena's sword had fallen as the creature's form broke apart.
It was several minutes before the smoke faded. When it did, the crystal pillars around the room had vanished, several Kalons laying unconscious around the room in their places, and before them sat a small, terrified kalon, tears in his eyes and shaking furiously before a tiny opal, now glowing softly with a familiar white light with hints of blue, green, and orange-red, a light which no longer floated amongst Ramey's own glowing halo.
Galena stepped forward, grabbing her sword from the floor and slipping it into her sheath.
"Hey," she said gently.
The kit whispered something under his breath, too quiet to be heard.
"Hey," she said again. "Speak up, please."
"...I... I'm sorry..." he whispered, voice quivering. "I didn't... I didn't know..."
She stepped forward, placing a hand on the kit's shoulder. He shrunk back at first, afraid. But she simply offered him a reassuring smile. "It's okay," she said. "It's over now."
Ramey sighed. "And thank god for that," he said. Turning his head to look at Fay as Galena reassured the child, he nodded. "Good job on that last part."
"Not bad yourself," she said. Then she gave a sigh herself. "Well, that was fun. I think I might take a break from adventuring for a few months now. At least in real life. Might play the new Zelda DLC when we get home. Probably not gonna be running off on a quest like this again for another few months, though."
"Mm, a break would be nice," he agreed.
They'd done it.
Thank god.

❝ This is it! The boss fight! The most important part of any hero's story!
How do they vanquish the Evil? ❞
Starring: The Squad™

Reayan, Archie, and Taika stood close to each other, warding off monsters and demons coming from every corner. A shadowy being leaped out, tackling Reayan to the ground. She yelped and screamed for help, trying to push the creature away. Taika launched herself into the monster attacking Reayan, impaling it and throwing it aside. "Archie! Are you holding up okay?" Taika called. Reayan stood up, brushing off dirt and beginning to fight with a couple of smaller monsters. Archie was struggling to ward off a wolf like shadow monster.

"Reayan, Taika! This one's strong!" Archie called to his friends, trying to block the monster from getting to him with his sword. Taika ran over to the monster attacking Archie, slicing at it with a sword of her own. It turned it's head to Taika, snarling. It struck at her leg, making her fall. The monster continued to bite and scratch at Taika. Archie's expression changed quickly. As if a fire of anger blazed in his soul, Archie stood up and began repeatedly impaling the wolf demon until the shadow dissolved into the air with a whimper. "Disappear and never come back! Never touch her again!" he yelled. Reayan and Taika stared at Archie with disbelief.

"Wow, Archie! I didn't know you had that in you." Reayan said. It appeared that they had fought off all of the monsters. But,
there was one final thing they'd have to fight off. The source of the monsters themselves. Taika quickly stood up, wiping off a little bit of blood from one of her arms. "Everybody, prepare the crystals." Taika said. Archie held up one crystal, the fire crystal. Reayan held up the nature crystal, and Taika held up the wind and earth crystals. The crystal's power combined, creating a nearly blinding, sparkling ball of power. With one blast and a big explosion, everything was gone. The demons, the shadows, the pain. It was all over. They had saved this town, and they could finally go home. The three were left lying on the ground. Taika looked at the necklace that still resided around her neck, and then she looked at her friends. She smiled.

"We... did it." Reayan stared at everything with disbelief. For once, she finally felt helpful. She felt like she did something that helped so many people. Reayan stood up and began cheering. "We did it! We saved everybody!" she laughed and cheered. "Archie,
Taika, we saved them!!" Reayan said, pulling Taika and Archie onto their feet. "We did it, we did it, we did it!" Reayan dance around. Taika and Archie glanced at each other for a minute. They both smiled at each other, and engaged in a kiss. "Let's... go home." Archie said.

Prompt 20

Bravery puffed up it's chest, broad and filling the spaces in their bones, because if it didn't, they would be left to crumble on the floor - spineless and without the strings that had pulled them to this purple, pulsing source of evil that was once King Pip.

Ulyana threw the stones - water, fire, earth, and air - into a ring around the King as if she had known all along what to do. (She had, she'd just neglected to tell the others). Sen threw several potions in the same general directions of the crystals, leaving shattered glass that sizzled and disappeared with the liquid inside of them. The combined potion and crystal effect took place immediately, a small protective sphere appearing around each crystal with a overall barrier keeping the Evil King confined. Ulyana fell to the floor and threw out parchament and ink, and began to write.

Ragiel charged forward, breaking the barrier with Sen on his heels. His sword raised to clash with the Evil King, and Ragiel's expression was hard and vicious, his slices reckless as ever, if more trained and precise than the past. Sen covered his side, utilizing potions to dissipate lashing shadow limbs and give Ragiel temporary boost in his fight against the Evil King.

Minutes crawled by with nothing but the sound of shattering glass, the clang and whip of swords, the scrawl of pen on parchment and the pulsing magic of the crystal barrier. Abruptly, Ulyana shouted, capping her pen as she threw out the scroll she had written. Ulyana would have pre-wrote the chant, if she could've - but unfortunately, for it to take effect, it must be initially written in the presence of the full force of the crystal's magic, and by the source of contamination.

Uncapping a small vial no bigger than her finger, she splashed the potion (made by Sen) over the wording before throwing it into the barrier. In the moments before it hit the shimmering blue surface, Sen and Ragiel jumped out of the sphere with a skid and thud as they crashed to a halt beside Ulyana. The Evil King crashed into the barrier after them, nearly cracking it, but then the parchment made contact.

It was swallowed in blue flames, and for a second, it appeared that nothing had happened. But then the crystals began to glow, elaborate runes appearing and disappearing on the surface of the barrier. The Evil King (King Pip, Ulyana thought sadly), growled ferally. Then, his fur and shadows began to sizzle and burn, melting to the ground with the pulse of orange runes.

One second, the Evil King was yowling, growling, hissing, thrashing, crying - wait, crying? And then, the next second, the Evil King was King Pip, scarred and blue eyes wet with heavy tears, but a plain, plain, plain gray day. King Pip, seeming more like just Pip than a king, led out a great shuddering breath and closed their eyes, breath evening as they fell asleep.

The castle was quiet, all of a sudden. A silent magic seemed to sweep through the castle and beyond like a warm summer breeze, washing away the blots of purple and evil in the capital and beyond, to all of Kalonkari. From their place on the floor, the crystals glowed their color, seeming to pull their element from the air around them, their magic shifting as they came back into haramony with the new, damaged Kalonkari that was their Kalonkari.

Our three heroes stared at the sleeping Pip and the soft glow of the crystals and simultaneously let out a great sigh. Of relief.

"Thank god," Ulyana almost-yelled to the empty castle, free of evil spirits. "It's been months, and finally I can do whatever I want. Hasta la vista, mis amigos!" Ulyana grabbed all of her stuff, hurriedly shook hands with Sen and Ragiel, saying something along the lines of, "great working with you, I made some life-lasting friends, thank you, thank you," and stormed back the way she came with the vengeance of a busy woman.

Sen just sighed again and looked at his depleted potion supply. "I have a lot of brewing ahead of me," he muttered, before looking to Ragiel, "stay in contact?" he offered. Ragiel nodded, and Sen scrawled his address on a piece of paper for him. "No bandit shegians." Ragiel just smiled, and Sen looked back, traumatized. D-did he j-just copy my signature smile? Ragiel smiled wider, and his eyes twinkled like he had just achieved the legendary - like he could hear Sen stuttering in his head. Sen never stuttered, and rarely got flustered. Oh my god, he did, I can't believe this ! Okay, stay calm. It's your game, after all. Sen plastered his signature smile on to counter Ragiel, glossing over the shocked glow to his eyes, and the mask seemed to break like glass when Ragiel plastered on his signature grin again.

"Sorry, man, couldn't help it," he said, still showing his white teeth, his fangs slightly prominent. "I'm glad I finally managed to break you a bit, now that we ended that King Evil. Thanks, though. And I think I'll have enough money by the end of this to retire from banditry." He held up a sack brimming to the brim with gems. "Just taking my paycheck. Gotta run, though, before that King Pip wakes!" And Ragiel was gone just as quickly as Sen, leaving the youngest and smallest kalon to frantically gather up the four crystals before disappearing down the same passage as Ulyana and Ragiel, earlier.

Sen slipped the crystals into his pouch, smiling a little at their warmth. Before, they had been so cold.

I'll be glad to return you guys home, he whispered in his mind, and the crystals seem to stir at his positive presence. He smiled his little small, genuine. It wouldn't be a problem for Sen, nature kid extradoriane. After all, he wasn't all that sure their team could have stayed together for the rest of the cleanup. Ragiel probably had a successful bet to brag about to his old friends, and Ulyana always had work...

It didn't matter. He would see them again, that Sen was sure of. And who knew? Maybe they'd get caught up into saving Kalonkari again.

Sen almost giggled at that thought as he fled the castle. Yeah, right. As if he, or any of them, would end up a hero of a country twice.

(Or... would they? :P)
