Kiona's muzzle wrinkled. Being stuck on a tropical island wasn't the worst, but it wasn't the best, either. She knew very well about the dangers of disease and bad water but hopefully with civilization so close, none of the kruisers would need to worry. She looked around to see kalons taking naps, wading in the tidepools, finding seashells, and building sandcastles and suddenly wished that she could have experienced a normal childhood. Traded the one she had with someone else. But she was an adult and it was impossible to go back, so there was no use in wishing.

She shrugged and turned away from the sight of happy families, deciding to make her way inland. Hopefully, she could find something to eat as she was starving. She glanced at the map and nodded. There seemed to be a firepit where she could hopefully grab a snack before wandering back to the docks. Yes, she'd go there.

The walk, which had seemed so short on the map, ended up taking almost twenty minutes as Kiona kept stopping to ask for directions (something that galled her) and to check her map. But the walk was worth it when she was able to grab some cold soup and bread. Then, a glint caught her eye and she turned to see a cave in the distance.

"There's a gem hunt going on if you're interested," said a nearby kalon. Kiona didn't flinch and instead looked icily at the other. "Oor not?" they squeaked.

Kiona's lips twisted into a faint smile and she began walking towards the cave. At last. Some real adventure. She reached the opening within a few minutes and peered into the darkness. Nothing. There was a cool breeze that ruffled her fur and made her glad to be wearing her summer pants. But nothing would stop her from going inside. Because why not? She had nothing better to do, after all.

Prompt 2: What's the first thing they want to do on the island?

Alania hopped lightly off the gangplank, her eyes looking inward at the island and not at the boat, her back to the glimmering sea as the warm wind breezed through her clothes. To her, this place was like arriving at another planet, after traveling through the vast brightness of the ocean. She cared little for the clamour behind her, where people organised their luggage and went about fixing the ship; her eyes were jumping from plant to plant, her feet carrying her towards them, her hands outstretched to touch bark, leaves, things that were perhaps the tree's fruit. She had compared the appearance of the plants here with the greenery of her home, and indeed, this was a whole new species. She had never known the world was so large, that there was a place with comforting breezes, a blazing sun, warm sand, new flora. With excitement and a childish, giddy joy growing in her chest, she danced from tree to bush, experiencing the texture and shape of the leaves and the smell of crushed bark and root. Trying the flavour of the fruits would be for later; she knew how dangerous plants can be when consumed, and would have to ask the inhabitants of this wonderful island before she ate. But until then, she would bask in this island's beauty.

What's the first thing they want to do on the island?

Kimberly shook the crumpled map in her paws, annoyed by its old age. If she squinted she could just make out some writing and faded images of activities. In the top left corner she spotted something called, snuck boar? Oh, snack bar. Honestly, why would Shark give her this map of all maps.

She quickly jogged up the beach steps, relishing the heat of the wood and concrete and she hurried over to the snack bar, stomach rumbling. The Snack Bar was nice. It was small, a pretty average size for a snack bar. Wooden diner stools lined a ledge hanging from the side of the bar. The ledge itself had a couple napkin holders, some condiments, and a small drink coaster showing different underwater images. Kimberly's favorites were the pod of dolphins, the glowing jellyfish, and the odd, ugly pink blob creature.

Ringing a shiny silver bell, Kimberly sat down, the stool squeaking slightly. Immediatly an older kalon slowly made his way to the front, and said in a kind voice, "Hello young lady. Are you ready to order?"

Kimberly scanned the menu a bit before settling for a bag of chips and a coca cola. "Coming right up." The shack owner said, smiling.

Kimberly thanked the owner and took her chips and soda, and continued to walk along the docks, enjoying the cool ocean breeze. As she munched on a pretty salty chip, she remembered the map. She saw that there was a spa near where she was, so she headed that way, desperate for some sort of relaxation.

When she got there, she ordered their cheapest massage. She looked around at the beach themed walls and the beautiful hibiscus flowers hanging all around the wall.

"Kimberly?" Someone called. Kimberly turned and spotted a kalon in a spa t-shirt and walked over, following them into a room. "So a normal massage yes?"

Kimberly nodded slightly, getting into the massage area. Though it went by quick, Kimberly enjoyed every second of it.

Sighing in content, she decided to go to the docks to watch the sunset. It was so pretty; pinks and oranges, mixing together to form a beautiful sky. Kimberly sat there until dark, looking at the stars and the vast ocean before her.

Mac carefully took the fragile map that looked like it would
turn to dust any second, and examined it closely.
“This thing is ancient!! Look at that paper, the color, the ink!!
Too bad one edge is torn...”
He smiled at the map, realizing he’s holding something much older than him, a relic of the past.
He was in awe.

He started walking towards the beach, holding the map with both hands, when all of a sudden- WOOSH-
Mac was dumb struck, staring at the map, or well,
where it was just a second ago, all there was now, was emptiness.
He looked at the flying thief, angry, and in shock.
“Seagull.” He said. Only one word, that meant so much to anyone and everyone
that was the victim of these terrifying dinosaur thieves of today.

But Mac wasn’t having it.
“Do you know how old that map is?! I need that! You better not eat it!”
He said, as he rummaged through his suitcase for anything edible.
He glanced at the seagull that was proudly standing on the map, as if mocking Mac.

All Mac found were empty wrappers of all kinds of candy.
He saw a shell near-by, in the shape of a cone, sticking out of the sand.
“Stealing isn’t nice, you know?” he said, as he grabbed the shell,
putting empty wrappers in it, trying to make an ice cream cone.. out of trash.
“Birds like shiny things right?” Mac muttered under his breath as he was looking at the shiny
wrappers of chocolate, candies, and bubble-gum.
He put it all together, and then started strolling along the beach.
“Oh how good this, uh...chocolate, strawberry, bubble gum.. ice cream is! I sure hope NO ONE steals it.”
he said, winking at the seagull that was still standing on the map.
The seagull wasn’t looking at Mac at all, his troubled eyes were lost in the endless blue sea, what a poetic seagull.

Mac tried walking a bit closer to the seagull, talking a bit louder, flattering the ice cream of trash, with all kinds of comments.
Seagull still stared at the sea.

Mac huffed angrily, sticking the “ice-cream-cone” in the sand, he jumped behind his suitcase, waiting.
And waiting.
The seagull didn’t move, he’d only fluff his feathers every now and then.
“Oh come on you bird-brain!”

Mac had enough of playing it safe, he ran towards the seagull, yelling “That map is ancient!!
You can’t even read! Just.. let go of it!”, the seagull didn’t move an inch, then BAM- Mac tripped over a rock,
falling face first into the sand, with mouth full of sand, his dignity ruined, he raised his head,
only to see the seagull, and the map, were gone.

The next few days, Mac set up a camp, made out of his own clothes, and a beach towel.
He gathered food, and water. He even slept there.
Making a plan-of-action, he was sure he’ll be getting that map back, no matter what.
And thus, he waited.

Dmitri's foot tapped impatiently on the sand, looking up and down the beach. An old map huh? People from the cruise had gathered, exploring the island or helping the locals. What he wouldn't give to just be home. Where it was safe and he would be comfortable, relax with friends over the holidays, game, eat...

Sighing, Dmitri folded up the map, tucking it into his pocket before unlocking his phone, glaring at the no signal symbol sitting in the top right of the screen, right next to the glaringly obvious 13% battery symbol. Hopefully he'd be able to find somewhere to charge it. Wondering away from the crowds, eyes glued to the screen while he scrolled aimlessly through messages from friends wishing him well, all expecting updates and photos from his time. Had he been paying attention, he probably would have noticed more people around, but as it so happened, Dmitri walked directly into the back of a stranger.

Phone being knocked from his hand and into the sand, it was with great timing that a wave washed over it before he managed to pick it up.

With a sharp inhale, he looked to the person he had walked into and glared before diving to pick up his phone, drying it off on his shirt. Clicking the power button a couple of times before giving up and pulling the thing apart to hopefully save his memory and sim card at the very least.

"Oh, oh no. Is that you're phone? Im sorry." Came the rambles of a stranger, apology lost on deaf ears as Dmitri's face screwed up in annoyance. Shoving the carcass of a phone into his pocket.

"What are you even doing standing in the middle of the beach like this?" He growled, eyes rolling at the words he didn't bother to process, their rambling going on far to long for him to care until he noticed the camera perching precariously on a stack of rocks.

"...and it looked so very pretty, so I ran back to get my camera and I've been trying to set up the timer to get a photo of myself so I can show my family when we get off the island but I haven't been having much luck. All of them are out of focus or angled funny or the settings don't capture the view properly and I don't really know what to do because I'm here alone unlike so many others who came with friends or partners or family so my best bet was the timer but I'm not the best at photography. It was a gift by the way. The camera, so I'm not very good at use...-"
"I'll do it."
"What?"
"I'll take your photo. Just... go pose or whatever."

Dmitri muttered to himself, walking over to the camera. Picking it up gently as he messed with the settings. Looking back and forth between the stranger and the camera itself. Bringing it up to his face to check the image, watching them pose with the warm sunrise sky behind them. Beaming brilliantly towards the camera.

"Did you get it!?" They called excitedly, grin on their lips as they waited for the verdict. With a thumbs up as he checked over the photos they bounced back up the beach towards him, looking over his shoulder to see the photos that had been taken.

"Oh wow! Those are brilliant."
"I can take more for you, if you'd like."
"That would be spectacular! What's your name? Let's get you back to the mess hall, there's probably rice there. Hopefully they'll let you borrow some to dry your phone out, it would be a shame if it didn't work. I would feel absolutely horrible. How are you so good with cameras? Do you work with them? The composition of those shots were lovely, I would never have been able to take them as I was..."

Dmitri tuned out, letting them ramble as they pleased. Small smile on his lips as he messed with the settings on the camera.
