Tikhaos favorite thing about the month of February is The National Day of the Sun. It is an annual celebration of nature that usually takes place during the month of February. It gives a sample itinerary of economic activities, customs, characters and historical events of the province, which Tikhaos loves to read about. It highlights include a beauty contest, which elects the National Queen of the Sun. Once the queen is chosen, she represents the province for one year, attending to other provincial and national holidays as well as tourism fairs and events to promote the province. Tikhaos has never won one of these competitions, but have sworn that she will someday. The National Day of the Sun normally extends over five days, with exhibitions, fairs, parades and floats, and so on. First up is the Gastronomy Fair. The gastronomic fair runs over three days, where there are exhibition stands of agricultural and industrial enterprises, provincial and national departments of tourism, and performance of music bands every night, at national and provincial level. Tikhaos doesn’t mind these too much; however, she will tour around and come to the music that’s played each night and hang out with the friends that she makes there. After the fair, there is a parade sort of event called the carousel of the sun, in which each department of the province introduces the floats decorated with motifs of landscapes, economic potential, legends, customs and characters of each region. Besides the carriages parade the Queens that each department choose, and in this way show their beauty with a view to future national election of the queen of the sun and flowing through the central streets of the city. This event is followed by nearly one-hundred thousand spectators, who are located at the edges of streets and sidewalks. They all are presented with gifts that are thrown from the floats, such as fruit or some present. Tikhaos enjoys watching the parade, and has actually been on a float before, and describes it as having butterflies fluttering all over you out of pure excitement. She has gathered a wide arrangement of presents from the floats, ranging from sun medals, to spinning tops and little bead necklaces. When it’s all over, there is an impressive show of light and sound, with between eight hundred and one thousand artists on stage. Tikhaos can dance and sing to every single one. At the end, or at the beginning as the protocol, is the election of the new Queen, who is crowned Queen Outgoing. The show ends with an impressive fireworks display, which for nearly forty minutes with dancing and music, of which Tikhaos simply stares to the skies with awe present in her eyes. She goes every year, and tries to see as many of the artists and musicians as she possibly can. She has a large scrapbook of pictures, autographs, pamphlets, tickets and flyers, along with a box of souvenirs, such as the presents she finds from the parade. She knows all about the meanings of the celebration, and is constantly researching the events and reading even more about the rich history of the fair.

Tikhaos favorite flavor of anything is grape. She enjoys the texture and sweetness of the berries, curious of how they can be such a perfect pair of sugary juice and tart fruit. She favors green grapes over red, but still greatly enjoys them both. Along with this taste, comes her favorite event of the year, as mentioned above. At the National Day of the Sun, they often serve light wines and savory concoctions of different kinds of juice.
