Pluto couldn't think of a time when she ever had the urge to run away because of arguement with one of her parents. Especially her mother, since she was around her the most out of the two. In fact, Pluto can't recall a time where she ever really got upset with her mother as a calf. Her mother did a great job at taking care of her and teaching her all kinds of lessons throughout her childhood. She was well-rounded, I guess you could say.

Neither parent told her something that she wasn't okay with hearing. When they told her no to something, she knew that they had their reasons as to why they said no. When they were hesitant, she tried to convince them as best she could, even with the possibility that they would end up saying no in the end. She respected them as parents and she would try to understand why they made a decision if it wasn't something she didn't like.

To give a final answer to the question, no. Pluto never thought about running away as a calf. She was raised well in her household and got along with both parents well enough to where she never had to even consider the thought as a calf. [212]

Beth was still looking for more eggs when she saw a little calf storm on by. Moments later, an angry mother rushed by her as well, apparently trying to catch the calf. Beth sighed. Every once and a while she wishes that her own mother would come back, even if the two of them got mad at each other every once and a while.

Without any mother or father at all, Beth never even had a chance to be scolded. She stayed home all the time, all by herself. Nobody ever told her what was the difference between right or wrong. Beth had to teach herself. While many Buttermilks may dislike their parents, Beth would do anything to have at least one.

In her barn, her home, Beth never even once thought about leaving. To her, it was a paradise. It had water, hay to sleep on, and tons of berry bushes, including her favorite, strawberries. Beth had no plan at all of what would even happen if the old barn were to fall down, or if Beth would be forced to leave her home. When it finally did, it took months to figure out what step to take next.

Chai smiled as she watched the white bunny munching on clovers. It was such a simple scene, but there was something sweet and familiar about it that reminded her of home.

“But I wanted a puppy!” the young girl whined, looking back at her mother with a glare. Her mother only smiled softly, “Give him a chance, Chai. He’s been through a lot and needs a nice home.”

The girl let out a small growl as she looked back to the small bunny. “Well find it a home somewhere else! It doesn’t even have all of its legs – I mean, how am I supposed to take care of that?” she scoffed, walking away from the young bunny who sat in a cage on the kitchen floor. Instead, Chai went to her room and started playing with her stuffed animals. She plucked them from their rightful places in her room and set them down gently in the chairs at the play table in her room – she would rather play tea party with her stuffed animals than play with a broken bunny.

After one round of tea party, she set the stuffed animals back in their places and slowly, carefully, selected her next round of tea party participants. Chai opened her closet door to get a large, stuffed tiger, but accidentally bumped into the doorframe. “Ow!” she grumbled, rubbing her head and glaring at the doorframe for a solid minute.

When she bent down to pick up the stuffed tiger she noticed another stuffed animal had fallen from the closet shelf and onto the pile at the bottom of the closet – a stuffed bunny who had been patched up, but only had three legs. Gingerly, Chai picked the bunny up in her hands, staring at him for several minutes before hugging him tightly.

She was misty-eyed as she went back out to the kitchen, where her mother sat on the floor with the small, three-legged bunny. “Daddy would take care of him, wouldn’t he? Just like he did Mr. Snuffles?”

Her mom smiled gently in return, “Why don’t you come here and let me show you how to take care of him?”

Prompt: North recalled the multiple times he wanted to flee. Not because of his parents and him wanting to be a rebellious teenager, but because he couldn't stand being viewed as some kind of outsider in society. He wanted to drop everything to go live a life somewhere else that didn't involve having to wear his fang caps, or listen on to people drone about mythical creatures and misinterpret the entirety of vampires. He felt bad, watching the child vanish from his mother's embrace, eyes softening. He didn't believe in chasing down children, especially when they were upset with you.
With Salvatore specifically, he learned that it was best to simply let him live his own way and if he ever needed North's help, he would come to North and ask for it specifically. Otherwise North couldn't and didn't try to control his son, watching him grow and being there for him when he was needed. It was a more distant type of parenting, but Salvatore seemed to be grateful for it in the end, especially when it came to him doing stupid things and figuring out they were dumb on his own. [192W]

Prompt: Tempest felt warm inside after helping that little calf, and it just kept on coming when she rounded a corner to see a small bunny munching on some clover. The heifer froze in her tracks to watch it, trying not to scare it off so it could enjoy its lunch. It looked like some bunnies that used to live on the farm before they moved away to a literal greener pasture just down the road. Tempest's mother never let her keep pets, it wasn't that she didn't think she was responsible, but Tempest was much too busy to take care of another animal. This never bothered the heifer, to be honest, she preferred being able to do what she like without having to worry about someone else. She did have a little frog once that she found down by the creek, but her mom made her let it go a couple hours later. She sure did miss little Jason. (159)

Something enters Lucky's eyes - something sad and gray and wishful. If only, if only.

"I didn't have parents," she murmurs. There's an undertone of bitterness, a green bite of jealousy there. How could she? As a starfish she remembers clinging to her procreator's back - but there was never an emotional connection. It was a defensive mechanism for the species, to keep their young from being picked off by bigger predators.

She'd wanted a mother. She wanted someone to love her unconditionally, to take care of her and teach her with gentle compassion. What she would give to have a mother to argue with. All would be forgiven with time.

"But I liked my home. I grew up near the sea, then I met Nalu. The rest is history." Talking Falls was a strange place to grow up - it was haunted. Lucky and Nalu were joined at the hip. They explored and adventured and surfed in everg free moment. Nalu was the better surfer by far, but Lucky could hold her own. "I was happy." Maybe if she would have had parents then she would have never met Nalu... And Lucky refused to trade her best friend for anything.

Prompt number: As you’re getting ready to wrap up your search, you spot a little calf storming off from his mother. They both seem to be fuming. Oh boy, kids are pretty crazy, aren’t they? Did you ever think about running away from home, or were you always content where you were? (You can interpret this however you want, especially if your cow didn’t have parents, was homeless, etc.)

Ironically enough, seeing the scene, Morgan was not reminded of running away: even though he did. After all, how likely was it that a child just gets abandoned in a swatch of woods and is able to survive? Once he did run away, though, he was content.

Running away was the only time Morgan did not face something: he ran from his problems, which were understandable as a young child who was not being taken care of and did not have a true home. Not having adoptive parents and being thrown around through foster homes who would not take care of him was frustrating, and Morgan just decided as a child to live on his own.

Hence the forest: something that was inviting to the young boy, something that welcomed him and gave him a home where he did not have one. Now, at the very least, Morgan no longer needed to run away.

Atlas has always loved other animals, naturally wanting to watch over anything or anyone smaller than him. He did have a pet when he was younger, a duck named Quackers. Atlas found Quackers by a small pond and after a few days of waiting for a mother duck who never showed up, he decided to take in the little duckling. He built the duckling a bed of hay in the corner of his barn and gave him his own water and food bowls. Quackers follows Atlas everywhere and even slept under Atlas’ chin sometimes. He would chew grass as Atlas grazed, waddle with the herd and even learned to moo. As Qauckers got bigger, he was learning to fly and would travel farther away. One time Quackers had told Atlas he found a “herd” of ducks who welcomed him into their family. Atlas knew it was probably time for Quackers to be a real duck so Quackers joined the ducks but still visited Atlas often.

Triton had definitely thought about running away from home on a few occasions. His parents were extremely hard on him and they were never the nicest and he knew he could do better on his own. However, that was before he had Rhodos. Once she was born he had someone to help him shoulder everything he was going through. Growing up with her made him feel a whole lot better and he had no intention of running away ever again.

This was until after she had run away herself. Only a few days later was he packing his bags and getting ready to go after her. He was all but ready to head out the door when he stopped dead in his tracks. Suddenly, he was hit with all the sorrow, grief, and reality of the situation his family was in. His parents weren't the best but he didn't know if they necessarily deserved to lose a child, let alone both of them within the course of a week. Even for only being 10 years old, Triton began to understand the impact Rhodos leaving had on everyone, not just him.

As much as he wanted to go after her, it wasn't worth hurting everyone else around him, who were now counting on him. (213)
